Mental As Anything Guitarist Reg Mombassa is also an artist and has success with his own surf label Mambo. Mombassa's artwork is in two distinctive styles. The type of artwork he designs for Mambo - almost cartoonish and in vivid colours, incorporating religious, political and popular culture themes - is probably the style he is most widely known for. However his landscapes and portraits, many of which are inspired by his childhood in New Zealand, are equally sought after. His artworks can be found in the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the National Gallery of Australia and other important regional galleries. Patrick White, Elton John and Ewan McGregor have all famously purchased his work.

I can remember the instant success of Mambo when it launched in 1984, the artwork on there board shorts was so different. I have about 10 Mambo Load Shirts, Reg Mombassa designs and 4 Mambo clocks and vintage clothes. Part of Australian culture.

If you guys like good Aussie music you should check out The Hoodoo Gurus. Some of their songs are: Bittersweet, Like Wow Wipeout, What's My Scene, Death-Defying, 1000 Miles Away, Cracking Up, I hope You're Happy. I would define their style as modern hippy 🙂

The keyboard player was known as Greedy Smith. He got that name by turning up at a gig, put a bucket of KFC chicken on his keys, and ate it during the show!!! They did a lot of quirky songs, like The Nips Are Getting Bigger and If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too... They started as a university band that played for beer money, but they became an iconic band.

@@notmyrealname1730 "I didn't mean to be mean" was a follow up to "the Nips are getting bigger" as there was backlash regarding what that song was about. As in people were unnecessarily offended by it so Martin Plaza wrote that as an apology song.

The singer Greedy Smith wasn't the regular singer, Martin Plaza sang most of their tracks. All their songs were a bit quirky but good honest pop. Berserk Warriors, Too many times, if you leave me can I come too were to me their better tracks. This never did it for me and was saturated all over the radio at the time. Was sad about Greedy, he died 8 months after my brother did of the same stinking disease, Cancer.
