Mike Rutherford the guitarist is the original bassist/rhythm guitarist/backup vocalist for Genesis. Singer Paul Carrack was the front man for Ace, played keyboard for Roxy Music for a while, did one album with Squeeze after Jools left playing keyboards and singing the hit "Tempted (by the fruit of another)" and collaborated with many other artists.

I love seeing people reacting to this song for the first time. You can see the person’s face change the second the message becomes clear. No matter how many times you hear it, it hits home. Great job Sir

Paul Carrack had success with 3 different groups Ace in the 1970s,Squeeze in the 1980s, and this group a super group "Mike and The Mechanics".

Another great track from the world of Genesis! Mike Rutherford, who is the guitarist here (and the father in the video) is one of the founders of Genesis. Mike + the Mechanics was his side project.

Written by the founder/band leader Mike Rutherford although the lead singer Paul Carrack kinda adopted the song. Paul lost his own father when due to a work accident when he was only 11 so he can definetely relate to the lyrics.

When it hits you...it hits you. As a young man, remember that. I was a young woman just a second ago...and now I'm married 34 years and in my 60's.. it flies!! Never forget to tell people that you love them ❤ you are a old soul young man and that's a good thing!! Blessings 🙌
