Nikki-- the bass player-- wrote this song after he overdosed, died and came back to life when the EMT gave him two shots of adrenaline in the ambulance in December 1987.

I have heard repeatedly through the years that the EMT recognized him and said Nikki ain't dying on my watch.

The paramedic who recognised him had a teenage daughter who adored Nikki. So that's why "Nikki ain't dying on my watch". And thus he was given the second shot of adrenaline in a (successful) attempt to revive him.

Let’s not forget he then went home after ripping the IVs out of his arm at the hospital, went home, and promptly went home to shut up again. That time he OD’d but not to the point of death. It helped him realize he had a problem.

Motley definitely embodied the "Sex, drugs, & rock'n'roll" decadence of the 80s. They were famous and infamous, and they liked it that way! Yes, I would consider them a "Glam metal" band. One of my favorite songs by them is "Wild Side". Definitely a darker song but you can barely notice through the energy they gave onstage.

Kickstart my heart was written by bass player Nikki Sixx after he overdosed on heroin. His heart stopped and they injected adrenaline directly into his heart to start it again. They literally kick started his heart!!!

Shout at the Devil, Too Fast for Love, Wild Side, Home Sweet Home. . Kickstart my Heart was from Dr. Feelgood and most likely their largest selling commercial record. Lost of singles including Dr. Feelgood worth the listen but it was a huge Tour despite my love of Motley Crue with their previous catalog as sings mentioned above.

I have been an all time Mötley Crüe fan since I was 12. And I am 51 now. I will always love this band. Kickstart my Heart is up beat song full of energy. And after 42 years they are still kicking butt and amazing. They are the main reason I was given an electric guitar at 15. Keep Rocking guys! I think you should check out Wild side.

Not sure if it was already said, but the voice effects at the end was a talkbox he was using with his guitar. Really cool tech that I believe was first used (or at least popularized) by Peter Frampton.

@@stoneysopranoyukon9398 That was at a point where I started thinking the band had gotten too glam/poppish. But it too has its moments. I never owned Dr. Feelgood, other than Kickstart I'd turn the radio station if any song from it or newer from them came on the radio. I was really into the early band, the first 3 albums are perfect from them in my humble opinion. If they'd have broken up after those releases, I'd probably still have respect for them...I feel the same way about Def Leppard, and a few other bands from that era that I also saw as sellouts before the 80's were even over.

I'm sure that you guys have created one HELL of a kick-ass playlist for the gym after hearing all these "new" songs your subs have turned you on to. I'm picturing the "stank faces" and the heads bangin' during your workouts (just like we're seeing here) and folks looking at you like you've lost your minds. Embrace the "stank face"! I'm almost 6 decades old and I STILL carry on in my car like I'm in high school. Great channel, great song and (as always) great reaction, guys.

Your first exposure to Motley Crue was them at the absolute top of their game! This came out when I was in high school and had just gotten my first car, a 1971 Pontiac Firebird. This song and driving was not a good combination for me because as soon as it came on my foot automatically went down on that gas pedal even harder! This was the first tour I saw the Crue on and they opened the show with this song. What a way to get the audience into even more of a frenzy then they already were. I think you should go back and start at the beginning with their hard edge track, Live Wire.

They were part of the huge bunch of bands that cut their teeth playing the Sunset Strip in Hollywood from the late seventies through the eighties.........releasing their fist album in 1981. This song was partly inspired by the near death experience of bass player Nikki Sixx as a result of a heroin overdose. That modulated voice you heard was guitarist Mick Mars using a "voice box"......the first time most of us heard one being used was Peter Frampton in 1976, but Joe Perry of Aerosmith also used one in a song before that.

It’s odd for me that people haven’t heard of Motley Crue and the other 80’s rock band, but I did grow up and was a teen in the 80’s so my concert consisted of these guys and others. It was definitely a free time of wild music and lots of fun. I look back now and realize that I feel sorry for the ushers and security back then because the concerts got rough.

You two would have totally LOVED the 80's. I"m tellen' ya. One heck of a decade. woof. I think I'd go to jail if I told you stories. This is Metal. Not heavy metal....but came from Heavy metal. They really were the first of the Hair Metal Bands. They still had the hard rock to them ( Think Thin Lizzy~ the boys are back in town or Van Halen ~ too many) but added a lot of Glam and hair spray. Some other bands like this White Snake Winger etc all went the big hair glam route.

Crue pretty much set the standard for Hard Rock Hair Metal Glam Rock bands back in the day. The tickets to Dr Feelgood or any of their shows were worth every penny I spent. The same energy portrayed in the video was the way they did it on stage. Tommy had insane drum kits he could play this song perfectly while being spun on his rotating rig end over end . The writing of Nicky & Mic was amazing Vince on vocals, he has one of those unique voices that others tried to copy but failed miserably in the attempt. A band you will never forget seeing live.

The guy driving the car is Sam Kinison. If you haven't heard his comedy, do so. Now. We'll wait. These guys were 80's royalty. The height of hair metal. Debuted in 81, and ruled the decade. Dr. Feelgood came out about the time I hit High School. You couldn't pass by a Camaro or Trans Am that didn't have them blaring. It was a part of the culture.
