This song was HUGE in ‘81 when it came out. MTV also started in ‘81 so this was one of the first videos. It was crazy.

"Physical" was number one on Billboard's chart for 10 straight weeks and became the number one song for the entire decade of the 80's, to say this song was MASSIVE is an understatement. This was a huge change in direction of Olivia, taking on a more rock edge for this album. Glad you enjoyed the video, Olivia kind of freaked out after making the single, thinking it was too raunchy, and decided to try and "tone it down" by making a funny video to go with it, however, this only made the whole thing even more controversial, a couple of radio stations in the USA banned the song (of which Olivia says she was always proud of - lol). Olivia became something of a "Gay Icon" following this and her very campy films to this point...

Olivia was pretty progressive for 1981. She presented this video on a prime-time television special. To See Gay men embrace on TV in 1981 was so rare. This was the biggest of the entire 80s decade. My favorite Olivia song is Twist of Fate from 1983!

Sadly the film clips of Olivia Newton John video you probably cannot do being from the movie "Grease" 1978 are the songs - You're the One that I Want with actor John Travolta as both main characters who sing it. Also another in the song - Hopelessly Devoted to You and Summer Nights from the movie. Maybe from her appearances on TV shows singing them?

An exercise fad called Jazzercise was big back then & the workout attire was similar. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

'Getting Physical' is a euphanism about wanting sex but no way could this be shown or reference to in a MV so working out at a gym was the best alternative. I don't think most people understood what the song implied like many hit 70s & 80s songs that referred to sex.
