This was my introduction to PTX. My daughter’s music teacher used this video to teach about music history. She came home from school and showed it to me. Then said “they’re coming to the State Fair”. We bought tickets right on the spot. And new Pentaholics were born. 😁

Pentatonix was made to cover the Beach Boys harmonies, but they only have done one, a cover of "God Only Knows". The video is Christmas travel themed because of the song's use in the Christmas movie "Love Actually"

PTX really are awesome. They have a lot of Evolutions, Mash Ups, Originals, Covers… It never ends… So many reasons to love them… ❤️❤️❤️ Personally, I love their originals “Love Again” and “Run to You”. Both different genre but both awesome! ❤️

@@GOTGames I think you haven’t but you should. ☺️ If you think they’re talented with their singing and doing arrangements for all their covers, originals are no exemption. They are great song writers too! “Can’t Sleep Love” is another original on their first actual album. It’s awesome! ❤️ This is why they are 3-time Grammy winners. Their talent is exceptional! ❤️

I would love to see your reaction to Pop Spring 2016. It is a live concert/four song set at a musical festival in Japan. PTX performs 3 original songs that include Cracked, Can't Sleep Love, and Water. And they perform their arrangement of Evolution of Michael Jackson. It is sooo good! Runs about 15 minutes, but you could break it up by song if that is too long for you. I really think you would enjoy it. You would get a taste of their original music which is amazing and just how great they are in live performance. Love your reactions!

Mashups and evolutions are cool but they still have some absolutely epic videos and songs you haven’t seen yet looking at your Pentatonix playlist. Amazing Grace, Can you feel the love tonight, and their version of O Come All Ye Faithful! I hope you check these out before getting lost in all the medleys!

I was born in 1950 so yeah I feel old until PTX performs and then I feel like a teenager. I lived through most of these decades of music. Great reaction guy!!

I highly recommend Avi Kaplan's solo music. He just dropped a solo album last week, and his earlier stuff right after leaving PTX is also crazy, crazy good. Start with Change on the Rise. You won't regret it!

The Five Faces of New Pentaholics 1. The most common is the Mitch Slapped. Commonly found when Mitch is heard for the first time in Hallelujah, The Prayer, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and doing Aha! at the Star Vista. 2. The Wide Eyed Look of Disbelief. Normally found when you hear their Wall of Sound. Found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Imagine, and Mad World. 3. The I Didn’t Want It to End face. Most commonly found after listening to the 90s Dance Medley. It can also be found after listening to all their medleys and evolutions. 4. The Teary Eyed Look. This is commonly found when listening to an emotional song of theirs or just the sheer beauty of their work. Commonly found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Hallelujah, Amazing Grace, Imagine, The Prayer and most especially Thank You. 5. The What Did I Just Hear Face. Happens when Pentatonix starts strong, or when you hear a really special note or Kevin sound. Is usually accompanied by rewinding the video or song to make sure your ears really heard what they heard. Those times are too many to list, but the most common rewind at the start moment is the beginning of Sound of Silence.

Thanks so much for the reaction! The thing that gets me about the "Evolution" reactions is it's such a mash-up - BUT, it's all done in ONE TAKE. Once you watch again, you'll see there are no breaks, no camera shots...and they can do it live and still sound the same. That's a requirement for any song that they do. Wait! Wait! They're not covers...they are upgrades. Thanks for being YOU!

Pentatonix has covered two Beach Boys songs (ironically, both of the quintessential summer band tunes are on Pentatonix Christmas albums). "God Only Knows" is stunning and has a video (complete with snow and Santa), while "Little St. Nick" is audio-only. You might want to react to "God Only Knows".

Pentatonix are known for their ability to seamlessly merge multiple songs into a medley or mashup. It's something Scott and Mitch started doing in high school and having Kevin and Avi (or Matt) to keep the changing rhythms solid is a huge help. Other comments recommended the other "Evolution of..." videos and you've done "Daft Punk". Another great one is the "90's Dance Medley"

There's so many songs you need to check out. Their Evolution ones, 90's dance medley, their covers, their originals. Then there's Superfruit, Mitch and Scott's own channel. They did so many songs and just them being them. The Challenges they did. So much fun watching them. Only problem is they haven't been doing their Superfruit channel for 2 to 3 yrs, so much going on in their lives now. Miss them though.

First of all, thanks for doing this. I discovered your channel a couple of months ago and it has been an absolute joy to see you react to Pentatonix--particularly "Hallelujah" when you were Mitch-Slapped in the best way ever. I'm in the middle of going through your entire playlist of PTX again because it's really fun, and I just finished watching "Sound of Silence" again. At the end of that song, you go through their library and discover a few other songs they have done, some of which you've since reacted to ("Royals", "The Prayer", etc.) and it looks like you've got a great start. Be sure to react to "Cheerleader" and "Can't Hold Us", not to mention all of their Christmas music. And don't worry, listening to PTX Christmas Music in June is not unusual at ALL. Trust me. I'm an Uber Driver and I've legit been asked to play their Christmas songs throughout the entire year. It's a thing. But before you get into ANY of that, I think it's the perfect time for you to react to some of their originals. So please keep the above recommendations in the back of your mind of course, but you are READY to see their originals and obviously, you're going to love them. My top two recommendations are "Love Again" and "Sing". "Love Again" is an EDM song without the "E". It's really "ADM". Really high energy and their costumes are insane. It would fit in perfectly into any club playlist. "Sing" is quite simply catchy, fun, and an absolute bop. Be on the lookout for celebrity cameo appearances in the video, too. They also got their Patreons involved, It's a joy to listen to. I could go on and on, of course, but you've got a whole legion of Pentaholics like me giving you recommendations so I'll just sit back and enjoy :)

Some of their original Music should be next. Don't overlook some of their greatest performances just because some one else didn't sing it first! Love Again (EDM), Happy Now (pop), Sing (bright Happy song), Run to You (ballad) are good places to start!, there is a little of everything they do.

For vocal expertise you need to watch their rendition of 'The Sugar Plum Fairy', an instrumental, with no voices, done by a group that has no instruments. They also won a Grammy for it.

They do the best medleys! I vote for Evolution of Michael Jackson - and if you watch the Popspring 2016 concert, you can see them do that plus 3 original songs live. A great introduction to what they are like live.

Hello G.O.T., Isn't this just great? PTX are masters of arrangements, mash-ups, seamless transitions and with superb vocals. This was a great history lesson too. You spotted the transition from black and white to colour when the colour TVs came in, in the 1960's!! They also have the Evolution of Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Beyonce, and Ariana Grande that are all worth watching. Also their '90's Dance Medley is superb!! PTX doesn't do "covers" ...they do "upgrades". They also have great originals. Already sent you a long list.

If you are interested in where the Beach Boys got their harmonies, see the 5 min KZfaq video " The Four Freshmen on the BBC July 2012 - KZfaq ". It shows Brian Wilson talking about how in the beginning the Beach Boys would copy the harmonies of The Freshmen note for note from records. Through replacing personnel, the Freshmen are still performing, and know about their influence on the Beach Boys, and actually sing a couple of their songs. In one standout part of the video, they segue between the Beach Boys and the Four Freshmen both singing "Surfer Girl". I tried to give the link, but that just made my comment disappear.

I had the pleasure of seeing the Beach Boys in concert. One of the best I've been to, and they played for almost 3 hours straight in 105 heat with no openers and 1 small break in between. They put on a show man.

Since you enjoyed this one so much, I think their 90s Dance Medley would really make you chair dance through the entire video! If you'd rather see a live performance of 3 originals and an "Evolution of Michael Jackson" song, then Popspring 2016 is the way to go.
