Song was written by Leonard Cohen 40+ years ago. He also watched PTX'S Official version, as recorded here before he passed away. He said he had heard over 800 versions with different lyrics and this, Pentatonix was the Best.

Actually, that's a myth. People who were close to Leonard Cohen said that by the time Pentatonix released this Leonard Cohen was too sick to listen to covers of his songs. 😢 It's too bad; I'm sure he would have loved it if the timing had worked out. And Freddie Mercury would have loved what they did with "Bohemian Rhapsody," and John Lennon would have loved what they did with "Imagine." That's the bittersweet part of many of the songs Pentatonix covers - the people we'd most love to hear them are no longer around to do so.

The base is sung by Avi, the guy with the beard and beanie. Kevin (love your chocolate brother reference 🔥) is a tenor. He is busy doing other stuff on this song like keeping the beat going. He does sing on a number of other covers. This song is a cover. Cohen, who wrote it, I think was the first to sing it.

I forced my 80+ year old (disabled- in a wheelchair) landlord to listen to this song last summer... and then she insisted that we see Pentatonix at the Hollywood Bowl a month later (which was quite the adventure because we live walking distance from Disneyland and getting from A to B - those two distances being a bunch - can be quite the adventure in SoCal). It required driving multiple freeways during rush hour, and then a shuttle bus because parking at the Hollywood Bowl is epically horrible. We had a ball! And then this year, she insisted that we see them again two months ago in Irvine. Way easier! Only 15 minutes away. If you get the chance to see them in person, DO IT!

It is always interesting to see somebody get "Mitch-slapped". PTX is a great group, but my personal favorite is Home Free. You need to see/hear HF's version of "Do You Hear What I Hear". Another suggestion is "Mary, Did You Know" which is covered by both groups and I actually cannot pick a favorite between those two versions.

Scott was the man who sang first. Avi was second and he left due to personal reasons and now has gone solo. An amazing voice. Kirstin is their female singer. Mitch is the guy with the hat. When he hits his high notes it’s known as a ‘Mitch slap’. And lastly Kevin. Kevin does sing in some songs but he is the beat boxer making all the sounds. Incredible talent. They do have another singer now called Matt and you might be confusing him with Kevin. Overall the group are amazing. Their first song I saw them sing was The Little Drummer Boy. It’s worth reacting to.

Kevin the Beatboxer (also the cellist) sings tenor, actually - high rather than low. Highly recommend Mary Did You Know, one of their most famous Christmas songs, where Kevin gets a solo near the end. The thing is, everyone else in the group can sing - but only Kev can really beatbox. Still, he does get solos sometimes.

There is something so special about their ability, to tell the songs story, allowing us to listen with a new perspective, and hear & feel emotions, we may not have heard from the original artist 💖💖💖 Not only their voices, but their delivery is also their gift! *IMO, no other group, can build up a song, like Pentatonix* They are masters at pulling on our emotions!!! 💗💗💗 *They are individually so talented, however, when put together, it is truly magical* 💗💗 💗 They definitely have some wonderful Christmas music, however, they also cross many genres, and are just as amazing!!! I think you may be confusing Kevin (beatboxer) with Matt Sallee, the bass you saw on their Sound of Silence video. While Kevin does sing in Hallelujah, its always in the background in the harmony for the first two verses, then he switches to beatboxing for Kirstie's verse and from there on. Matt replaced Avi Kaplan (2nd solo singer here), who left the group in 2017 and now has a rising solo career - if you like bass voices, give Avi's solo work a try!

😂 Pentatonix has at least eight Christmas albums, maybe more (I was counting on my fingers). Their 2023 Christmas album is "Pentatonix: The Greatest Christmas Hits," and is largely songs from their previous Christmas albums because they're running out of Christmas songs they haven't already covered.
@susanstein6604
@susanstein6604 8 ай бұрын
Yes, Pentatonix put this song on their Christmas album but it’s not a Christmas song. It’s not even a Christian song. Leonard Cohen is the songwriter and he’s Jewish. It’s about a disastrous and painful love affair which brought him to his knees saying Hallelujah. Kevin Olusolo is the beatboxer. He is a tenor. He doesn’t sing a solo on this song but does on other songs.

Your chocolate brother is Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable), beatboxer extraordinaire, and I'm sorry, but no, Kevin doesn't have a deep voice. He's a tenor. The lowest I've ever heard him sing is in "Run To You," where he gets down to the very top of a baritone range. Kevin does occasionally solo; you can hear him in "Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone," "Imagine," and "Sing," and in "Run To You" Kevin's voice is an integral part of the glorious five part harmony. You can find Kevin's personal KZfaq channel here: youtube.com/@kolusola I strongly recommend his KOver of Marian Hill's version of "Down": kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f62ampRqmM6Yf58.html Also, I think you'll like "The Kevin Show/Kevin's Fifth"; this is a live stream from a Pentatonix concert in Owensboro, Kentucky, Kevin's home town: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eshzlNanyLTcZ2w.html
