Another awesome reaction Brandon! IMO the entire 26 minute Shine On You Crazy Diamond suite (parts 1-9) is their magnum opus. I think it is so much better than Echoes or anything else for that matter. It is the essence of Pink Floyd in one musical masterpiece. To answer your question, there were two female backing vocalists: Carlena Williams and Venetta Fields. Thanks again!

I came to this page for the Floyd, but I stayed for your amazingly concise analyses. It's so refreshing to see, and hear, a younger generation wondering to the incomparable talent that comprises Pink Floyd, far beyond the "WOW" factor exhibited by so many first-timers. They are, IMO the greatest band in history, and a genre unto themselves. Your reactions and analyses are spot on - a real treat for those of us who have been listening to this magic for 50 years. Bear in mind, all of this incredible music was created before computer aids like today (overdubs, tape looping, sound effects, etc.). It's obvious that you are truly appreciative of complex music with quirky changeups, structure, insightful lyrics, and all the slightly subsurface (yet fitting) sounds and instruments that make PF so emotionally addictive....all of which are definitely intended to evoke a reaction, yet never disturbing the flow. They don't simply plug into their amps - they plug directly into you heart, mind, and soul. They're the primary reason that I lean towards prog now, where sonic experimentation and eclectic time and signature changes are the norm. Upon viewing your history, I see that you've only recently dabbled in the other band of the era that is a genre unto themselves - Steely Dan. Like PF, they are far more than the ubiquitous "rabbit hole" - they are both more like mine shafts....extremely deep, with a myriad of surprising side tunnels. Don't enter unless you are really into the possibility of exploration with the possibility of never returning to 'normal' music. Their unequivocal adherence to immaculate performing and production is rivalled only by PF. You could easily have a perfect reaction channel for months by previewing just these two musical titans. Please give us more of each - I'll be standing by waiting eagerly. Bravo.

I believe I came to music more seriously (learning piano and more) in the early 80' after listen to this suite complete, well the whole album for sure. Very nice keyboards on this work particularly, even more than Dark side of the Moon or Animals that I also have in my favorites, Richard Wright of course supported by all the band obviously, and the unavoidable guitars of David Gilmour 😇.

@markrae1317 See Emily Play was the last official song Barrett wrote for Pink Floyd, when he started 'going over the edge'. He fought the release because he was not happy with the way Norman Smith recorded and mixed it. Supposedly it signifies the best and worst of Syd, as the band loved the song.

It' s so joyfull discover this great old music and let yourself hijack to another dimension. When I was young I had a friend of mine who has a wall filled with cassettes with the best music in the world and every week he gave me 2-3 pieces and after week we discussed what I've heard. It was school of music - I was "modern guy" grewed up in 80/90's and listen to 70's prog music was something for old people 😀 But finally it make me to have open mind, receive everything and make my own opinion. 😉

The final keyboard ending, a Coronanet I think it's technically called, was a Rick Wright adlib he said just felt right at the time. They liked it so much it was reteained in the final song mix. I'm old enough to remember hearing this whole album on UK Radio 1 as an experimental quadraphonic pre-release. Uninterrpted and totally unheard of. You can imagine what the lead in section to Wish You Were Heere track did to everyone !

Without Richard Wright Floyd wouldn't have been the same. You really need to listen to Saucer Full of Secrets on Saucer Full of Secrets. As that song Perhaps is Richard Wright's most extensive work. It is another long song, but much of it features him. There's also a drum Cadence throughout part of the song that even after it ends it stays stuck in your head. It is there earlier works giving us a perceived perception of what was to follow. ✌️ 🤠🐂🏞️

I've never listened to the Part 6 solo in the company of a dog, but I'd like to do it some day, to test my theory: that David continues the solo and keeps raising the pitch, but you can't hear it because it's ultrasonic... 🤣I wonder how many guitar learners that solo led to suicide, like "I'm nobody, I'll never be able to play like that!" 😭 As much as I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, however, there is one band that I think was even better in terms of build-ups, of gradually building moods and atmospheres: *The Who.* An example: "Bargain", the second track of the masterpiece album "Who's Next". Not the best or the most remarkable song in the album (probably that would be "Won't Get Fooled Again", a song that alone would ensure any band a place in the rock pantheon, though "Baba O'Riley", "The Song Is Over", "Behind Blue Eyes" are all outrageously good), but perhaps "Bargain" is the song that best illustrates The Who's uncanny talent to build up moods. "Bargain" starts as an okay rock song, not bad, but rather ordinary. By the end you have your mouth open and your jaw on your knees, and the point is, you never knew how you got there, so gradual it was. Brilliant!

Understanding that everyone has their own personal life apart from our own the band was never quite the same after he left. Even the division bill which truly was recorded separately is beautiful. I always liked the original release of Roger Waters radio chaos. He apparently wasn't happy with it and although many like his additions I'm not exactly fond of the extended version. It follows the same format both in Pink Floyd style and Roger Waters apparent personal reflections of living at 0 Minutes to Midnight. You might sneak that one in on a Pink Floyd extra. It is a concept album also. So..... ✌️ 🤠🐂🏞️
