A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ KZfaq. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of KZfaq I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on KZfaq won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This KZfaq channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different
This is a reaction video used to educated and give my feedback on the song and artist

Rob, I agree 1000%. It was like he was Michael Jackson's red-headed step brother. The Malcolm X to MLK. The underrated and underappreciated one who, in my opinion, was way more talented than MJ.

Are you guys over 50? Cause I am and was there in the moment. I have never ever heard anyone downgrade prince impossible. Mj is my favourite but prince is right there also and I love both. This not giving prince his props must be a young generation thing not from mine and I am only 6 years younger than he was.
@Anjalena
@Anjalena 3 жыл бұрын
@@jamesway I'm 49. I was there in the 80s when he had his moment for a few years. But then he wasn't really in the mainstream eye nearly as much. I'm not saying he wasn't mentioned or that they didn't have occasional songs of his on the radio. I think Prince became more a cult fan thing for those of us who were true fans. But, pedophilia claims aside, MJ stayed in the mainstream, was dubbed The King of Pop, and might as well have been American royalty by the reaction of the rest of the world. I prefer O+> to MJ personally. He had incredible levels of talent. Singing, playing most of the instruments😁, writing his own music which spanned numerous genres, discovering a lot of artists who became famous, writing and lending his music to other artists, etc. And my guess is that the difference in the two, popularity-wise, is that Prince didn't dress like a dude and he was very sexual. Both of those things made this puritan-like country very nervous. Strange as Michael was, the public took to him. Possible I'm not seeing this totally objectively. No worries though I was just mentioning something that came to my mind as I wrote that last message. So I fleshed out the thought. It really doesn't matter to me and it's not something I sit around thinking about. I don't give a shit about the idea of celebrity. I have enjoyed my years as a Prince fan and that's really all that matters, right? And if Michael was better than Prince for you, that's all that matters. For the record, though, I loved Michael, too. I loved him years before I gave two shits about Prince. I remember crying when he set his head on fire. I played the Thriller album ad finitum until my mom's alcoholic boyfriend shattered it cuz I misbehaved or something. Michael was great. I guess Prince was the one I connected with more deeply. I dunno.

I think the short explanation of what I trying to say in the first post is really this part of my reply to you: "And my guess is that the difference in the two, popularity-wise, is that Prince didn't dress like a dude and he was very sexual. Both of those things made this puritan-like country very nervous. Strange as Michael was, the public took to him."

@@dweezil8461 I fell for that "quote" too, coming from a cousin who is a music history fanatic... The interwebs are sticky. Though Clapton did pick Purple Rain as his #1 track on BBC's Desert Island and called Prince a reincarnation of Little Richard, Jimi, and James Brown... in Clapton's voice at about 36:00 in he says Purple Rain was "a lifesaver" for him www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p009mdm4.

What he DID say, though, was that this movie had a profound impact on him. "In the the eighties, I was out on the road in a massive downward spiral with drink and drugs, I saw Purple Rain in a cinema in Canada, I had no idea who he was, it was like a bolt of lightning!... In the middle of my depression, and the dreadful state of the music culture at that time it gave me hope, he was like a light in the darkness..."

You haven't even scratched the surface with Prince. Like I always say, if Jimi Hendrix, James Brown and Michael Jackson had a baby, it would be Prince. Prince was the best musician and performer that the world has ever seen. Prince has been credited for playing 27 different instruments on his recordings but could play pretty much anything aside from horn instruments. He has been acknowledged by many of the great guitar players as being the best or "one of" the greatest players despite being snubbed by Rolling Stone Magazine when they excluded him on their top 100 list, Prince shoved that back in their face with his guitar solo performance at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Steve Winwood with Rolling Stone in the audience for the live show. It helps to remember that this, the "video" is just a scene from the movie, Purple Rain. So, the weird fat dude at the bar, the quiet intro, the awkward audience, and the credit given to Wendy and Lisa (Prince wrote the song himself) is all in service to a dramatic moment from a movie. At the time, everybody owned the whole album and knew the whole movie by heart, so it didn't play so weirdly. There were several other hits from the movie/album that when this single came out like fourth, it worked great. And since the other songs on the album were funky, soulful, dancey, and electronic, he went for full-on Rock'n'Roll god in this one with his stunning guitar chops on full display. He wrote, played, sang, and produced almost every instrument on every record he made, but this was recorded as a band. And he did both the vocal and the guitar parts live for this film scene. It's pretty legendary, and so was he.

@@jamesway Ohhhhh... I'm quite familiar with Jimi, SRV, Eddie, Eric, Randy, Kath... etc. And they're all phenomenal. And I'm not necessarily saying that Prince's solo in Gently Weeps IS the best solo ever. I was saying that's what the title of the video says... But, IMHO I have no problem with it being in the considerations.

The ability to play over 20+ instruments fluently, writing hit after hit for not only for himself but for some of the biggest names during his era. I could go on and on with the superlatives. If he was deemed underrated it was by those who could not match this Man’s talent. For those who recognized his talent , they understood he was a once in a lifetime phenom who could not be ignored but revered for the power of his passion to create timeless great music.

And THIS is what we got to listen to when I was a kid in the 80's! This was my favorite Prince song it's just so beautiful to listen. His lyrics were always clever not predictable rhymes. And his talent with the guitar was unreal. Prince was a private man and even at his peak wasn't gossip fodder like his contemporaries at the time, Michael, Madonna and others. He was small in stature but a giant on the stage, quiet in life but when he took the stage he overpowered everyone! I miss him a lot. Thank goodness he left a legacy of his musical genius behind for us who grew up with him to continue to enjoy and for future generations to discover and be amazed!
