1989 was one of the best summers ever for me - a lot of memories out here on these Los Angeles streets with this song, rollin in them low riders - your question - Elvis was an entertainer that was being controlled by the industry just like an artiest today -he is known for being a raciest because he was successful singing black music - like Eminem today - back then a black artiest would make a song and make $200 off of it - Elvis would re-release the same song, sung by him and make $2,000,000 off of it because he was white and had a bigger plat form - but he was doing what he was told by the people in control of the money just like a employee or singer in a contract does today - I know for a fact that Elvis looked up to James Brown and James Brown had nothing but respect for Elvis - so if you like his music - go for it - there are more Elvis fans than Jay-Z fans believe it or not - trust me on that -

Great reaction to an awesome song --- P.E. was always one of my favorite groups...and I still have their albums ("Yo Bum Rush the Show", "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back", "Fear Of A Black Planet" etc). And regarding the "Elvis Presley rumor about him being racist", the is 'No'. Apparently, the rumor started sometime in the 1960s where people were circulating the story of Elvis supposedly making racist remarks about Black people while in Boston --- but at that time, Elvis had never visited Boston. Then the rumor changed that he said it on a TV nighttime talk show... a show he had never been on. Anyway, everyone who knew him (including Black people) stood by Elvis and said that he has never made any sort of racist remarks about any race, and that, that was not the type of person he was. Bottom line, it was just one of those hoax rumors that went "viral" in the 1960s, but no one ever heard him say anything disparaging about any group of people. Anyway, you should check out one of Elvis's songs, "In The Ghetto" (the live version on stage). Whitney Houston's mother is one of the backup singers. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aLWoZLeg18udnqs.html

Should watch the video "Elvis and the black community" on KZfaq. Lots of ppl reacted to it. Elvis was actually a really good guy. For example, he refused to play in TX if he wasn't allowed to bring his black female singers with him.

Elvis was a BIGOT. He famously said that "a nigger can't do nuthing for me, but shine my shoes and buy my records." Elvis fans have argued against this for years, but older Black folks from that era swear by it.
@AndyKusanagi86
@AndyKusanagi86 8 ай бұрын
it was the audience that stole rock'n roll for Elvis, not him. he actually had a lot of respect for black performers, to the point that he'd say the true King of Rock'n Roll was Fats Domino, not him. but you know how the puritan America was (and many still are, otherwise Trump would've never been elected) better they be scandalized by a white guy than someone like Little Richard.

Ahmad, please tell me you will do a deep dive into the PE catalog. One of my top rap groups of all time and It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back AND Fear of a Black Planet are two of the best rap albums EVER. I could list TONS of songs from them to check out. However, if you want something current so to speak, definitely check out their newest album. Also, if you didn't already know, Chuck D is also a partner in the group Prophets of Rage, which includes "the band from RATM" and B Real from Cypress Hill. That group has some good tunes and comes off as basically, RATM but instead of Zack you get Chuck D and B Real on the rhyming. Also-2, if you didn't know already, this song and video was tied into Spike Lee's movie Do the Right Thing. That movie was a very socially conscious tale....definitely worth a watch.

Elivis got rich off re-packaging old Blues music as his own, but so did most of the good rock bands in the 70's.. Hell Pink Floyd is named for two old blues guys. That's where they drew their inspriation. I don't know think the artists were racist because they liked the old blues and wanted to incorporate it into their music, but the labels sure as hell were back in the day. Some people don't like Elvis because he got rich off "black" music, but I see it more as society's problem at the time. Music doesn't know color. People like what they like.
