Ray Steven is known for his comedy songs, but is a good singer, musician and song writer. My favorite serious song of his is "Misty".

When I was in the 7-10 year old range, I was ALL about some Ray Stevens and Weird Al. That was my JAM. And Ray's not really a "comedian." He's a legit singer and songwriter who was a master of comic songs.

Oh, the memories!! Please do "It's Me Again Margret" , "The Shriners Convention", and "Sittin' Up Withe Dead". I remember people "streaking", Shriners Conventions were notorious, and I'm old enough, from such a rural area, I have actually "sat up with the dead".

Ray Stevens is a favorite of my Dad’s. I remember road trips as a kid. We would travel from California to Florida and, he was always playing in the Van. “The Streak”, “Mississippi Squirrel Revival” , my personal favorite “Erik the Awful” and, so many more. Good times.

Ray Stevens is a legend. He has been in the music industry since I was a baby, and I am a grandmother now. Serious songs and comedy. I watched your reaction to “The Mississippi Squirrel Revival” and now this one. I will look for some more reactions to Ray Stevens. I just found your channel this week, been enjoying your videos, your accent, and your beautiful smile.

This was written in reaction to a big trend in the 70s, when high school and college students would sprint in unexpected places. I was just a kid, but I remember a few incidents. Back when people still had a good sense of humor.

I streaked my 8th grade play back in 1973. It was a Catholic Co-Ed Elementary School. I ran onto the stage, jumped up over the heads of the Nativity Scene being portrayed by my fellow students, flashed the Peace Sign to the crowd, landed and ran out the fire door on the other side of the stage. One of my friends was out in the parking lot with my clothes. It was rather chilly sans attire on a foggy night in fall in the San Francisco Bay Area. I beat feet back into the auditorium so people saw me there and I had an alibi when the Mother Superior got around to trying to find the culprit. :)

I will never forget this song! It was hilarious but it also started a streakin craze! All times of the day and night you could see people out there streaking down ball fields, main street, office buildings, virtually everywhere! It was a crazy fad with people daring each other to do it. Trick was to run fast enough to not get caught!

We LOVED singing 'Santa Claus is Watching You" It was a MUST song in our house starting after Thanksgiving, it was THE phrase. LOL

This was one of the first songs by him I ever heard. I could relate to it since we had 3 streaker at my high school the year I graduated - 2 guys and 1 gal. I missed all of them, but it was the talk of the school.

The Streak was incredibly popular during its time on the charts. A friend who was a DJ in the 1970s said the audience requests were unmatched in his career. People could not get enough of it.

C.W.McCall had some funny stuff also. Most people have heard his song Convoy but there many more. I have always liked Wolf Creek Pass,Four Wheel Drive,Black Bear Road and Green River. He got started doing commercials for Old Home Bread when the people that were supposed to sing the jingle didn’t show up so he just stepped in and did it.

He was born in 1939 and still puts out new songs every once in a while at 82 years old, my grandma and I used to watch a VHS tape of his music I had back in the day and made a little in joke between the two of us whenever we used the phone based on one or two of his songs.

Ray Stevens was very popular in the 60's and 70's for his parodied's on what was happening in the world at the time. The Streak had become very popular especially in college towns where college students streaked naked at college events. One of my fondest memories I have of that time period.

At the 74 Oscar's David Niven was about to introduce something when a Streaker appeared on stage and David Niven says "Fascinating to think that the only love that man will ever get in his life was by stripping off and showing his shortcomings" one of the best lines ever!!

Streaking in this context was a thing in the 70's. I was in Junior high & high school & several of my classmates streaked, to see if they could get away with it.

Before he made his comedic songs he had Grammy winning recordings "Everything Is Beautiful" and "Misty" Definitely check those out and probably make good reaction videos because you realize just how good of a voice he has. Those two songs really showcased his voice, probably why he won Grammys for them. 😉

When I was in college, in the 70s, whenever there was a group a streaker would take off and the cops chasing behind. Or people would get up on the top of a building "naked as a jailbird." What days. It was so fun to watch the cops chasing. They would have a hard time catching them because they had no clothes on.

The summer this song was released, my family and I actually saw a streak. It was in Pascagoula, Mississippi, (the same place the SQUIRREL went to church)!

In early 70's there were incidents where college kids (probably a fraternity hazing of pledges) would streak across campuses or football fields anywhere there was a large crowd of people. This trend didn't last long once they started getting arrested for public indecency and placed on academic probation.

Ray Stevens did some comedic songs. However, he was a brilliant songwriter and singer! He wrote and sang some of the most beautiful Country Songs ever! Please don't get the wrong idea about his vocals! And, I just heard you say something that lessened his gorgeous voice and writing! Also, I'm sure this was an American thing! People all across America ran naked, with a mask on, through grocery stores, at ball games, every place imaginable! Was this NOT done in England? Well, if not, you missed seeing a lot! ha ha ha lol! 😂 😂 😂

This song came out in 1974. At the time idiots decided it would be funny to take off their clothes and run through public places. Even David Niven live on the Oscars tv show was streaked. Ray Stevens has been a popular entertainer for generations. Yes, he has done serious songs, too. He has an entertain venue in Branson, Missouri. The town has 45 theaters and 80 family type shows.

So, in the 70’s in the U.S. there was a fad of people running naked then making a quick disappearance. It was called “streaking”. Someone even tried it at one of those televised Hollywood award ceremonies.

This song is updated a little from when it came out in the late 1960s early 1970s. The 60s and 70s was really the heydays of the streaking fad. By the 1980s it was really winding down. As a child growing up in the 1960s and 1970s getting streakers streaking through my neighborhood I could never figger out if they were bragging or seeking sympathy.

Back in the 70s people would run naked through pulblic gatherings in my home town a retired couple went for a stroll buck naked in thetown square they got arrested for snaling not streaking
