I cant believe, a youtuber who was actually listening the song! KUDOS! I listen to metal for like 25 years, I know "all" the great bands, but damn, shame on me. I heard Ayreon like 2 months ago and I was like "wow"! Since then I have listened to first 6 albums, watched "Electric Castle" , "Theatre Equation" and "Universe" live... OMG, which one is better? I don't really understand how Arjen can be so "underated". Definitelly check more from Ayreon Meanwhile I would recommend another extremely, and I mean extremely not enoght known amazing band (their album was nominated for album of the years) from Germany. Man, you gotta do some more Ayreon stuff. As you probably already figured out, and as many people must have told you, they're not actually a band, but a project put together by the mastermind Arjen Lucassen, where each singer is a character, each song is a piece of the story and each album has its place in the chronological line of the Ayreon Universe. Working with so many talented musicians and singers (apart from Arjen himself) the results are just fantastic, and I really suggest that you check out Everybody Dies, Star of Sirrah and The Castle Hall... all of them from the Ayreon Universe live concert. Ok, so Aryeon is not really a band. It's more or less a solo project Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He composes everything, plays most of the instruments and occasionally sings. Then he invites some of the best damn singers (and some extra instrumentalists) in the metal scene to play roles in the story. It's a bit like a metal version of the opera, where there is story being told through the lyrics. Pretty much all of the Aryeon albums make up on continuous storyline, with it's own world-building, lore and everything. With the amount of co-operation and complexity of these tracks, Aryeon very rarely performs live and never does "tours". Arjen also had a bunch of side projects over the years: Ambeon, Star One and solo albums. Personally I have mad respect for the man: self-taught musician who plays a whole list of instruments, composes, writes lyrics and a coherent story with interesting lore and after all of that, based on all the interviews and whatnot, he is an incredibly positive and down to earth guy and doesn't let the fame and connections get to his head.

Ayreon is not a band but just the one guy playing the synth, bass and guitar. He makes use of guest artists, many of them come back on his albums. While he does other projects as well, Ayreon albums are Rock opera's that are completely story based. For the sull story you'll need to listen to the entire album in sequence. In case you are wondering, yes, there are live versions of his work as well although they differ from the album for obvious reasons. With so many artists on the track it is impossible to get them together in one place to perform it live. Other artists take over the roles in that case but with the amount of talent he works with it doen't matter much. Check out 'The human equation' live but make sure you know a little about what the story is before you do.

Sometimes Arjen organizes a live performance (on which he sometimes will not appear, he loves studio work much more). But he has great artists playing then. Some of the artists shown here, notably Mike Mills, have been performing live. And what to think of Marko Hietala (nightwish)... Unfortunately, metal people from all over the world crave to attend, so a live concert sells out within hours. Oh dang, what a pleasant surprise. Wasn't expecting to see you react to this one. I always giggle because you always bite your lip when you see Floor 😜 this song is super awesome, one of my absolute favorites. It is part of a concept album so I wouldn't try applying the lyrics to our world, it's specifically about the story for the album. Nice timing for this one, Arjen just recently announced his next album would be an Ayreon album! I must disappoint you though, no Floor on that one.

Ayreon is awesomeness! I know why all the big hitters say yes it is because Arjen is a VERY likeable person who really knows what he is doing and is able to blend all these amazing performances into a cohesive whole. The really cool thing as well is that there is new Ayreon coming soon(ish) this year! The new album Transitus has been being teased on youtube and as always it is a who's who of metal/rock and sci fi as Doctor Who himself is doing a narration track for the album :D

This guy does all concept albums inviting different artists, mostly singers to play parts in the story. Marko of Nightwish also does some of them. This is the first track of the album so it's how this story begins, I haven't listened the whole album to see how it continues, but yeah, the music is awesome. And Floor in the end lol, nobody ever expects it, Arjen was smart to place her there. Although the rest of the cast is really amazing too.

The name Ayreon is chosen cause the world will never pronounce his name Arjen right. Phonetic Ayreon sounds as close to the original Dutch pronunciation of his first name ‘Arjen’. So pronounce it not as Ay-re-on but more as Ayr-yeon
