Great reaction. “Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 5 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of his songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard. His trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion. It needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. It has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).” His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up), their busking (street performances), concerts, and their live recordings, are awesome and well worth checking out. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," “War Pigs,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” "War Pigs," "Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," and so many others are equally impressive. Ren recently released his single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. As mentioned above, his latest release, “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” is another masterful work.

Here is some additional information on Ren's story, in case you didn't already know. I gathered it from an old newspaper interview and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Eryn Gill is a British musician; born in Wales in 1990 or ‘91 (depending on which source you cite), he grew up in Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which lead him to experience psychosis. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023). Ren's Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals, as well as his bones/joints. Ren stated: "It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family, and a successful career, and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but that's life, we take the good with the bad." Let's keep supporting Ren and not pull a "Sony" on him as he undergoes his treatment. Check out and subscribe to his channel, listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to this generation, and his work is needed in these troubling times. Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity

This was a great reaction. First time viewer and an instant subscriber. There is a lot I can say about this video and this amazing young man. At 17 he was bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. It was misdiagnosed for 7 years and being told that it was all in his head prescribing psych meds. Lyme disease is a horrible thing causing massive amount of physical problems and untreated absolutely creates extreme mental health issues. He is in Canada right now receiving treatment for it. This is an real young man going through unimaginable things. He puts out videos on Instagram of his journey through the medical process. Now, this masterpiece.... This was an incredible dramatic piece put to music. But, the thing that I find most remarkable about this. Isn't the incredible guitar work, lyrics that leave zero doubt what he is trying to convey, the way he embodied each side with his voice and music or even the amazing message at the end. It's the effect that it is having all over the internet. I literally sat for 4 plus days watching reactions to this song. The most beautiful and wonderful thing is happening. I have seen reactors as well as people in the comments section coming forward with stories about their own personal struggles and how they are coping each day. This is so relatable to people in all walks of life. We all have inner struggles and demons that we have to go through. Whether it's doubt, self esteem, addiction or mental health issues. Because of that people are finding a connection in an unexpected place. Each other. People are reaching out saying that they felt alone in their battle. To find an amazing amount of people saying that exact same thing. Proving the point, a falsehood the way no words can. I think that with this one song he has proven his own words true. He IS a genius and the waves that he is creating are tsunami in scale. He is also the best storyteller I have ever come across. You have to check out his trilogy of tales. Jenny's, Screech's and Violet's tale. They must be done in order or just the Tale of Jenny and Screech full. Be warned though, they are a bit rough. So, I have gone on and on and on enough. This was great. Thank you. Will be here waiting for more.😸

Really great reaction Guy's! 😜👍🔥 A lot of reactors don't actually react to this, they just stare at the video, with their mouths open! 😜 He was misdiagnosed for 10 years. Now he's in Canada for treatment. He has a triology that's a theatrical performance. Jenny and screech, and violets tale. It'll blow you away too. ❤️

13:21 the look on your face, the way your eyes close and a stifled little smile appears on the lips, as you think “he can sing? He can really fucking sing! Wow!” and the emotion washes over you. That’s what I’m here for!! Hi Ren is almost like a religious experience for me at this point and I’m becoming more and more evangelical about it. I’ll keep an eye out for when you do The Tale of Jenny and Screech.

I've seen it many times; it's the only song I've ever actively watched for reactions TO. It's a bittersweet masterpiece. I personally feel EVERYONE should watch it, we NEED this so badly. It REDEFINES sanity; in creating a dance between your "angel" and "devil" to move you FORWARD without being owned by either. I was at once both fascinated by his initial guitar piece and desperately wanted to FEED HIM. A side effect of tick bites is the inability to digest animal protein. They need to work on that. Keep this genius with us. They didn't realize all the possible side effects of tick bites and were only treating his symptoms. Thank you for your reactions! It is somewhat difficult to not just STARE IN AWE, breaking it down is great, but takes some serious focus!

Such a brillianly constructed song/ Video! I love the way he shows he can play the guitar and sing before the doubt in his head kicks in. Then he tries to fight off his demons, thinks he can keep them under control, but looses the fight. Just so beautifuly done the way he takes back control, stands on his own two feet, and sings from the top of his lungs! Then the guitar and singing for joy goes to proove that he's won over his complexes and is back in control, and ready to make some music! The spoken word is made for everyone, get it?

Bloody good reaction I loved it, Ren was biteen by a tick quite a few year ago and has been suffering from Lyme Disease as we speak is being treated for his condition through donations on gofundme. This is my first that I got introduced to Ren, but I knew Ren's stuff without realising it, from his busking days, like I shot the sheriff and this is a man's world, but his best storytelling is yet to come with the tale of jenny and screech look out for the full version which is a trilogy of, Jenny's tale, Screech's tale, and Violets tale, and a twist in the storytelling too. He did a cover recently to the verves bitter sweet symphony which is awesome, money part 1 & 2 are outstanding, as well as Genesis, look forward to you diving down Ren's Rabbit hole of songs, much love from the UK 🤘🤘❤️🤘🤘

I'm Sub'd to you guys now. hands down one of the best reactions out there. It's f'n great when you get reactors who truly listen and hear his bars and understand every word coming out of his mouth. This is a bloody fantastic rabbit hole your about to explore because this boy is not only an incredible story teller using a style people have coined (Bardcore) as in like a modern day "Bard" from medieval times + delivering "Hardcore" stories. For a true taste of this, i suggests that you react to "The Tale Of Jenny & Screech". It consists of 3 stories, each are preformed in a single continuous, one shot, single camera take. Very compelling! Then you can start diving into his RnB Jazzy/Pop fusion songs like "Chalk Outlines" or his Thought provoking raps on today's society like "The Money Game part 2" which in my view, is radio worthy now. When that's done you can start on his REAL RAP. If you're a real fan of hip hop and rap then you'll love; what I call Ren's Beast Mode, reacting to "The Hunger" or "Genesis" both touching upon his struggles and another beast of a rap that he recently released his remake of "Losing It" which will blow your mind. Cheers and thanks!

I subscribed because I love the reaction and I adore and love Ren! I have Lupus and I have had it for 23 years and I got it young so I feel this so much! 4 of my organs are involved now. I know. So I try to enjoy every day that I can. Mentally and physically I can relate to Ren, watching and listening to this genius storyteller has been some of the best medicine I have had in a long time! I’m not sure I have ever seen a storyteller like this. He can sing, rap, storytelling, play guitar, bass , piano, acting, and so much more what genre? He says Bard core. I say Genius and can you react to The Tale of Jenny and screech full version or Ren x Chinchilla Chalk Outlines both are great! Chalk Outlines is stunning and Jenny and screech is great storytelling! I can’t wait to see you react to Ren again no matter what it is! You can’t go wrong!

The part that stands out to me after about 50 watches is, "I'm Temptation and I'm immortal. Oh yeah? Well I'm hope and I'm eternal. We are a coin of different sides!" Ren is a MASTER with writing and musical expression! OBVIOUSLY people will request the Jenny, Screech, Violet trilogy in on video take because it is so good and unique also. There is nothing NEW here with this song I'm requesting but if you are going down a Ren "Rabbit Hole" NO ONE has reacted to this reggae cover of "I Shot the Sherriff/ Road to Zion" by the band he started and recently split with called "The Big Push". kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7mVdtiDmpfWlZ8.html

This is art of transcendent beauty and an *important* song. Artists often struggle with imposter syndrome. There’s a movie starring Olivia Munn called “Violet” that rings of this and was a transformative experience for me… just as this song also resonates. As a person who’s never been able to escape negative self-talk, *realizing* that you can exert the strength that destructive voice questions-strength that you *know* you have-is sooo important. It takes time to push past the negativity-to make your own voice stronger, but if anyone out there is struggling with this, please please please *know* that you can do it. *Know* that I believe in you… but you don’t need me to-just like you don’t need the shroud of doubt that feels first of protection and then as a prison. You are *stronger* than that voice. You are stronger than you can *possibly* know… until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.

Yep Ren is finger picking and also using Nylon acoustic guitar strings and that gives the E string he's plucking pretty hard that sound you're talking about. If he used any other type of acoustic guitar string the sound wouldn't be as pronounced. Be strong his guitar with the nylon strings on purpose to add that extra layer and it worked because you and alot of other reactors who aren't guitar players have pointed that out. It's awesome you picked up on it Becca.

I hate to quibble. I appreciate your reaction. It's just that I am a theater designer and there are subconscious cues in the placement of objects that are affected by the reversal of the image, making it less impactful. In a case like this it should not be altered. Just for future reference...😘

@@RealReactions I wouldn't expect you to know that. In some cases it wouldn't matter much, but if it's well done, the simpler a set, the less people move, the less you can mess around with it. This set was ideal and is, to my mind a character in the story. It's like making a collage from the real Mona Lisa cause she's just sitting there. Thanks for being open to it.

Watching this flipped is bugging me out. He's been giving copyright permission to reactors so it wasn't needed. Oh well. Good reaction. Sub Conscious Ren - the light is behind him, so his face is in the dark, the lights flicker when he speaks and he strums his guitar more aggressively. Patient Ren - the light is in front of him brightening his face, lights are calm, no flickering, and guitar strumming is smooth and melodic.
