Years ago I saw Roy in concert. Surrounding him on stage, besides numerous guitars, mandolins, banjos, there was a coronet, clarinet, accordion, and button (Irish) squeeze box. He played them all

"He played them all"......very, very well. Fixed that for ya'll. No worries. One question, though??? No fiddle??? Hard to imagine Mr. Roy doin a show without a fiddle.

@@snafubar5491 There were a couple fiddles... and he was an extraordinary fiddler. I saw the show in the mid-70s, and remember it very well, but sometimes details elude me.

Normally I won't watch unless it's something that I've seen before. And I've always thought Roy Clark was just some famous country singer. Since I don't like country music I avoided him. I didn't know the man was a guitar virtuoso and could play a bluesy Boogie to rival Stevie Ray Vaughan. I thoroughly enjoyed that I'm going to watch more of his music.

A lot of country artists moved between genres. Waylon and Conway come to mind as they both started in rock and then moved over to becoming legends in country.

He could play any genre and any song, as good if not better than any of your favourite guitarists, and he could do it on any instrument with strings

I love just about anything Roy Clark does. He is one of the most talented people I know. Another great song he does extremely well and made me sit up and take notice was "Under The Double Eagle". Enjoy!!!

If you haven't yet, i would urge you to check out other great guitarists of Roys era. Glen Campbell, Jim Stafford, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins etc... Way too many greats that don't get the recognition they deserve because at the time, Rock music/musicians were making a big impact and country was seen by some as "Your Parents Music".

Roy Clark was famous as a country singer and musician, but he was from Virginia and grew up around the Washington DC area so he was familiar with other types of music.

You can add Tommy Emmanuel form Australia and the late Glen Campbell, Les Paul, George Benson, Oscar Frederic Moore, Larry Coryell and a host of others to that group you mentioned at the end. Oscar Frederic Moore was Nat King Cole's Guitar player in the trio

I grew up watching Hee Haw back in 70's. He and Buck Owens played host but each did their thing. A lot of classic country got started on HeeHaw.

I love Roy's music and I consider him one of the best guitarists of all time. (I still have a Roy Clark "Best of" 8 track tape... with nothing to play it on!) But... if you're going to assemble a guitar virtuoso Dream Team, you absolutely have to include Prince. I once saw an interview with Eric Clapton where he was asked "What does it feel like to be the best guitarist in the world." His reply was "I don't know... ask Prince."

I strongly concur with your dream team thoughts. That said, you you strongly need to check out Tommy Emmanuel, who is arguably the best acoustic guitarist in the world. He hails from Australia and can play many different styles. I would suggest starting with his rendition of Classical Gas. Mindboggling.

A lot of country music musicians, cut their teeth on jazz as well as rock ‘n’ roll. If you want to hear some really nice jazz, can I suggest a couple of guys who are better known for their comedy routine: Homer and Jethro. They put out an album of purely instrumental, music, called “playing it straight” it showcases what amazing jazz musicians they really were when they weren’t cutting it up doing parody songs.

He could play any style. I don't believe he played anything other than stringed instruments - though it wouldn't surprise me if he could play piano (his mother played piano). I would add Jeff Healey to your all star guitar line up. Glen Campbell too! Only other one to consider is the late Eddie Van Halen. By the way imagine being 14 and going over to a friend's on a Saturday to have a cookout and mess around attempting to play guitar, only to have Roy Clark walk out. Food came first then a few hours of learning from the man. This was at the height of his popularity. A truly special memory.
