The Christmas Truce (German: Weihnachtsfrieden; French: Trêve de Noël) took place on December 24th until December 26th, 1914. Many of these truces happened all across the Western Front on the front line which was about about 50 miles from Paris, France. Henry Williamson a nineteen-year-old private in the London Rifle Brigade, wrote to his mother about the actual Christmas Truce: Dear Mother, I am writing from the trenches. It is 11 o'clock in the morning. Beside me is a coke fire, opposite me a 'dug-out' (wet) with straw in it. The ground is sloppy in the actual trench, but frozen elsewhere. In my mouth is a pipe presented by the Princess Mary. In the pipe is tobacco. Of course, you say. But wait. In the pipe is German tobacco. Haha, you say, from a prisoner or found in a captured trench. Oh dear, no! From a German soldier. Yes a live German soldier from his own trench. Yesterday the British & Germans met & shook hands in the Ground between the trenches, & exchanged souvenirs, & shook hands. Yes, all day Xmas day, & as I write. Marvelous, isn't it?

Sabaton is a Swedish band that writes and sings about Actual historic events, battles, moments of heroism and wars. They will be releasing their 10th studio album on March 4th 2022. Nice thing about them is that their video's never blocked so it's KZfaq safe. I went down late in the day on the 24th, struck in the engine I could not press on. My crate nosed over into shell hole, I came to much later. I could do nothing but hide, the madness of no-mans land reigns terror on those caught in it. Darkness fell, and an eternity lay before me as I plotted my way out. But something happened that night, a soul deafening silence fell upon the front, followed soon by a single voice in song. Not believing what I was hearing, I peered over the mangled wings covering my hole. I saw a single man, standing above the trenches, hands behind his back, singing as though his humanity depended on it. It filled me with a chill the night and snow could not give. Then more of his comrades stood to join him, and they walked onward, slowly and un-armed. I heard a heavy Scottish voice say; "Are ye a'right lad?". A highlander with his pipes was standing aside my hole, his hand extended. Without a thought, I responded: "Shaken, but not dead." "It's Christmas, Lad. C'mon." I stood, and took his hand for help from the hole. Around me I saw what could be described as a wonderous occasion. Men of all sides stood in the desolation, talking in what tongues they knew as though there was no war. There was no hate, no blood, no malice, only cordial respect and humanity. I wondered then, what we were fighting these men for. It struck me then, that each of us had a job to do, but tonight we all refused to do that job and simply be human. The voices rose again in song, and the piper played as we walked to the gathering. I couldn't help but feel that there was hope for us afterall, that we are all the same, no matter our uniforms, our rifles, or our futures. Tonight is Christmas, tonight we sing. -Manfred von Schreiber.

Welcome to heavy metal history! The band is Sabaton from Sweden! all but one of there albums is about war and history. (the Metalizer album was before they came up with the history idea) They do not pick sides or political ideals in any of their songs they just tell the story. Their most recent and their next album are all based on stories of WW1. This was the first release of that album. Other songs you should watch are. No Bullets fly (have some tissues near by for that one). Night witches (the animated story) En Livstid I Krig (Live The Great Tour) with subtitles on. they also have a you tube history channel about the history in each song!

This is absolutely brilliant. A true masterpiece in every respect. Sabaton is much the same as Nightwish, in that they use brilliantly crafted music to tell the story and they are so damn good at it that it hits you hard every time. It should come as no surprise that Hannes, their drummer is husband to Floor Jansen whose angelic and operatic voice you hear at the end. Every Sabaton piece is a history lesson. Indeed, lest we forget, as there are those who as we speak are trying to erase our history and separate us from our past, and to no good end. We cannot allow that to happen.

for sheer audience involvement "en livstid I krig " live from Göteborg is among the top for sabaton, it is in Swedish but there are subtitles (not perfect but translation of lyrics is difficult). music video, Bismark, soldier of heaven, just so many. animated story videos , either "no bullets fly " or "night witches " you will feel the message, better believe that. also check out the Sabaton history channel here on KZfaq, there you get the story AND history behind all their history based songs.

Sabaton is the best! I didn't even know their music until I heard Dan Vasc cover some of their songs. Now I'm hooked on them and much other metal, too. С первых нот ,захватывает дух,изумительный мощный голос певца за фортепиано как гром небесный, все пели от всего сердца и души,прекрасные живые мужественные лица . Это подвиг в святую ночь с верою во Христа к-рый вселился в каждое страждущее сердце солдата и они оторвались от земли,подняв руки бросили вызов взрывам огня и свинца с другой стороны. Все одно мгновенье ,стали братьями по духу,обнялись и освятились,метаморфоза произошла фантастическая ,воины как дети стали играть в футбол и радоваться жизни - вот - он момент истины. Гениальная симфония звуков.торжествующая жизненой силой,сотрясающие голоса мужчин,рожденные для созидания и радости жизни. Не было такого мощного антивоенного клипа. Поздравляю авторов этого шедевра!

another great song by them is 40:1. although not as emotional, its about the polish defense against nazi germany. more specifically its about the battle of wizna, where 720 polish soldiers stood their ground against 42000 german soldiers. they only fell when they ran out of ammunition. the captain, Władysław Raginis, opted to take his own life with a grenade once it became apparent they couldnt hold any longer, to avoid capture by the germans.

This truce wasn't authorized by the military command on either side. After the truce many soldiers refused to go back fighting which is understandable however they were punished by death for refusing to obey order.

A cross was erected to commemorate the truce and it is still there in no man’s land. Not sure when it was erected though.

This song is emotionally fucked up. All this shows me is that we fallow the orders of evil people and we let them get to our heads. Otherwise none of us want to fight. Its only in the face of true horror do you realize how wrong you are.
