For those who haven't played, the first boss theme is for a villain in a mech suit that's been hinted at forever but only just appeared for the first time, and the second boss theme is basically for a dragon that kills you in your dreams. This is why the first theme is very straight forward and mechanical sounding, while the second sounds like it could be playing inside a demented fun house

I'll just come out and say that the death meme enemy is in no way a dragon. I'll agree on the theme being played in a fun house tho. Still the memory death meme is more of a 7 eyed monster who hunts people in dreams than a damn dragon.

You should definitely play Star Rail. These themes are from the latest world in the game called Penacony and while the story of Star Rail has always been fantastic, they've really knocked the story out of the park with Penacony and we've only gotten the first out of three parts.

I find it funny that the character that stands out the most has the most normap name like imagine being a badass robot and ur named "Sam" also Aventurine is the only character who follows the same path as his faction I just realized If u love the boss themes in HSR and GI u should react to boss themes from Fate/Grand Order and Arknights especially Arknights it is the strongest soundtrack wise among all the aforementioned games in my opinion

1st theme - Sam: a very very anticipated, faceless character inside a giant, terrifying, sick mecha suit 2nd theme - DEATH ITSELF: absolutely terrifying, lovecraftian entity hidden in the deepest layers of a sinister dream(the twisted jazz piano represents the twisted penacony ost (the og dream)), murdering people at will and striking nondiscriminatory. Before this boss fight, the mc goes through absolutely terrifying sequence of repeating doors, clown music, crying and screaming which only increases as you realize there is no way out...yup. then you get hit with this boss and it's spooky music lol!

When playing in Spanish and i think JP (dont know about CN or other languages) Sam uses the feminine form of "I / me". but since those are gender neutral in english we might know less than people who play the game in other languages.

I will have you know the Sam boss fight is epic as well. Regarding "Something Unto Death" I will say that Penacony (The location these fights take place) is an experience. Also, fellow Black Swan appreciator (The character on the left) I can definitely see what you mean with Something Unto Death fitting into Jon Wick, it absolutely would I'd love for you to listen to "Aberrant Receptacle · Starcrusher Swarm King" which is personally one of my favorite boss themes before Penacony released

PLEEEEAAAAASEEEEE PLAY STAR RAIL!!! ❤ (sorry for shouting) The system is similar to Genshins, it's a bit simpler. The battle is really different cause it's turn based. The story in my opinion is better then Genshin, but that's just what I think. The characters are amazing and the overall gameplay takes way less time than Genshin dose.

Just to add some context - the second ost (return of none) is played against memory zone meme: something unto death. The fight takes place in dream world penacony. And it is said that nothing can kill you in your dreams. Turns out that this dude can. Something unto death is created from fear of death, of mortality which is known to any living being

My favorite thing about Return of None, the Something Unto Death theme, other than the music itself, is the comment left by @triple3slash5. And here it is if anyone want to read it. Anyways, if you like it, go give his comment a like. "Both mechanically and thematically, this boss is portrayed very differently to the rest, and the music reflects this nature of Something Unto Death so well. This track is so pointedly aggressive and irregular, it reflects SUD's status as a primal horror of the human psyche being an entity borne of the PERCEPTION death. All of the theming in this track reflects horror (in the constantly escalating synths), anxiety (with the pounding beats), oppression (with the synth bass being loud and spatially close to the listener), isolation (in the distant, reverberated brass) and finally, naked and unfiltered aggression with the constant variation in rhythm and instrument panning. This thing isn't a weapon of galactic war, a corrupted leader, a grandstanding emanator of destruction OR an experimental rebirth of an Aeon's dead path. Something Unto Death embodies the primal feeling of mortality dawning on someone. It doesn't have a reason to exist, it simply does because sentient beings conceptualize it. There's no ulterior motive, there IS no plan. It embodies the moment where a bus zooms right behind your heel and you feel the air rush into your back reminding you that you could have been splattered on the pavement, it's the brief moment you feel like you just might fall when you step onto a glass floor terrace of a tall building, the fear of your breath fading as you swim towards the water's surface, the paralysis of a gun being pointed ANYWHERE near you. The Sunset cometh, make your final goodbyes. In three turns, night befalls us all." And a continuation in the replies. "Bonus bit of analysis for 'ya: This song has no thematic allusion to any sort of large scale. The entire experience is centered on the listener and no instrument in the track numbers higher than 4 from what I can hear. This track is intentionally very personal, likely because people only truly experience death and mortality on their own even in a crowd, so that is the imprint that Something Unto Death is born from. Sam is a robotic warrior who is absolutely ruthless and efficient, that's why the song has all the brutal and mechanical elements in it. I would tell you so much more but i wouldn't wanna spoil things for now, just in case you play Star Rail soon. Something Unto Death on the other hand, is an entity of the dream world with mysterious origins and a form no less mysterious. One can only describe its form as some sort of purple-ish black draconic creature at best. The entity can cause a temporary instant death to an individual, hence the name "Something Unto Death". And again, no more from me to avoid spoilers.

The fight with Sam also happens minutes after an emotionally devastating event in the story and miHoYo takes that stuff into account, it's part of why it's such an intense and specifically bleak song in addition to the battle vibes.

The only downside to trying out a bunch of games that include long-format games (like Hoyoverse games) is that they are slow to start, and ramp up after an invested period of time. Short format games tend to move must faster at the beginning. Have fun finding your next gaming addiction, L-dawg!

Sam is almost cool enough to make me not HATE him. *almost* I will never forgive him. She was perfect, and he (and Sparkle and Acheron) caused that perfection to be taken. He was probably trying to find Firefly and got mad over the fact she died so you shouldn't really blame him for what happened. Sam is a partner of Firefly or they should've become allies soon maybe we'll see later.

Sadly the boss does not live up to his soundtrack at all. One of the most disappointing bosses design-wise, just a dude in a suit.
