It was written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. It was produced by Stewart Levine. The song reached #1 on the Hot 100, #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #38 on the R&B chart. The music video was directed by Vaughan Arnell and Anthea Benton and was filmed in London, England. The song won the 1990 Grammy Award for "Best R&B Song". Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff would bring a notebook filled with potential song titles into their songwriting sessions, and they found a great hook in this one, which was the starting point for the song.
