The Director of the movie 'Origin' contacted Stan in New Zealand and asked him to write the Music for her movie. She had seen him on YTube with a cover of Kanye Wests "Ultralight Beam' Stan of course said yes lol. He and a small crew set about filming this video in New Zealand and finished the song the video etc in just over 2 weeks. The only editing came when the Director added some shots from the movie. It's an absolute brilliant song from Stan. So glad you've reacted to this my friend..

Stan’s vocals caress the heart. It reaches deep. Stan has done many covers…Ultralight Beam, Circle of Life, Don’t Dream it’s Over…..and some of his own include “I am the colour” ( total diff song than I Am), Bigger, Māori Ki Te Ao Subbed and ready for the dive ❤

Not sure if you’re aware that Stan had his stomach removed and I believe it was not too long before this. He also had his bladder removed and has had 26 surgeries since. He survived stomach cancer and to be still able to sing like this without a stomach.. I have no words.

Kia ora e hoa. Stan is incredible and a taonga of the Māori people. The video is multi layered it seems. The scenes where it depicts water just seem to flow. The scenes of volcanism are slightly harsher, there is an open airiness to the song when showing the forest. That reverence to greeting the rising sun, I don’t know for sure but seems to be somewhere near the East Cape if I were to guess. It just feels like they would do that there as an added layer. You can almost smell the earthy scent when it shows him in the cave. My personal favorite scene is where he stands motionless with the ferns all around. It is a breathtaking visual representation of Aotearoa that just happens to have a song playing in the background that when added together are both greater than the individual parts. Yes tattoo is real. Stan is a New Zealand Maori. - the people of the land. He is singing in Maori. It is his composition and did the filming in New Zealand in his tribal region. Stan is out taonga - Kia kaha

Re other songs of Stan's to check out - agree with everyone else that 'Ultralight Beam' (live with the Levites) and 'Amazing Grace' (live with the Levites) are essentials. Australian Idol discoveted my 2 favourite male singers - Stan and Guy Sebastian. Both winning these seasons and having extraordinary voices. ❤ Stan's version of Purple Rain all those years ago is still one of my favourite live TV performances.

Those are mighty astute observations my friend. Stan is unapologetically Māori, from the Tūhoe tribe of the Urewera in Aotearoa/New Zealand. The stanza of the chorus is reminiscent of traditional Māori chanting of old. Kia ora! (good health/thank you)

As a New Zealander I love Stan’s music….he has amazing voice, yes he has had a very hard time in is life. He released another song after this which shows very much the culture of New Zealand Maori it’s also a beautiful song . Stan has had cancer and now has no stomach. You haven't reacted to Stan Walker before? 😮 Ok follow up with some of these. Another cool music video is "New Takeover". He also does "I Am" live in the studio. His latest "Māori Ki Te Ao", then some oldies like "New Light", "Ultralight Beam - Kanye West cover", "Amazing Grace" all live in the studio. Just to mention a few. It's amazing how he still sounds amazing if not better after battling stomach cancer and had his stomach removed!
