One thing for sure about Steely Dan. When you hear the first few seconds of a song you know it’s them. Very unique sound. Brings me back to my childhood.

Try their "Peg." I would love to hear your reaction to that one.

The best music you'll ever hear! No filters just talent! It was a blessing to be able to be there when these songs first came out. ❤️

Yay! Steely Dan! Thank you!!! Reeling in the Years is another good one - they are just very unique. There may be some live videos of them too available.

Welcome to the musicians that other musicians gauge themselves by and who audiophiles use to determine the quality of a sound system. Steely Dan is much more than a band, they are an entire experience. I would suggest you got to hear songs like "Deacon Blues" which is where I got my email name from, and "Peg" which has the incomparable Michael McDonald gracing the background vocals. This band used session musicians to perfect each track, sometimes running in and away dozens of masterful artists who couldn't keep up with their rigorous and oft times, too demanding insistence of sonic perfection.

Steely Dan is too comprehensive to explain in a comment however the two artists Donald Fagan and Walter Becker who are ‘Steely Dan’ (with accomplished session musicians) are a cut above the very best in musicianship. SD’s music is quite a vast rabbit hole and all of it is ear candy in the most sophisticated way. It will be an education.

For me the two greatest bands were The Beatles and Steely Dan 😎. This song is from their early years. They just got even better with time. You really should explore their songs. Please try “Any Major Dude Will Tell You” and “The Royal Scam”. But actually, you could try any of their songs. They are really unlike any other band.

That percussion instrument making the scraping sound is called guiro. Yes, often used and heard in Latin music, salsa and more.

Steely Dan truly one of the top 10 bands of all time. You’ve got a lot of listening to do just reacting to their catalog and the solo work of Donald Fagen. This is is a Grammy Award winning group of outstanding musicians and epic song writing. Have fun😎

Steely Dan are their own genre! Masterful musicians/songwriters. Try, Peg next....with the very talented Mr Michael McDonald on backing vocals. Now that you've listened to Michael I'm sure you'll recognise his distinctive voice

If you want to sample other artists from this 'sound' time..check out 💥...Do You Feel Like I Do...Peter Frampton I had the pleasure of hearing his concert..in an adjacent parking lot..lol... Throughout musical history..certain sounds are patterned in groups of time... With the advent of electric instruments.. musical experimentations combined with the drink or drug of choice..took us into sounds unheard of before...the late 60's through the start of the 80's were mind blowing audios... Enjoy your travels...🌿🌿🌿

The Dan are one of a kind. Donald Fagen and Walter Becker put out some great innovative music with the help of some awesome session players. Strongly suggest you delve deeper into their timeless music that gets better and better the more you listen to them. Try "Kid Charlemagne" with Larry Carlton's legendary guitar riff!

The guitar solo was actually an electric sitar. This is the first song off their first studio album. Steely Dan is their own genre. No other band like them. One down, 80 great songs to go.

I think it was back in the 80's, somebody did a mash up of this and Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. Check it out sometime. Good reaction.
