Sting put out some just iconic music across his career, first with The Police, but then later on his jazzy soulful releases in his solo career are just on another level.

Sting is brilliant and I've loved everything he's done since the Police. There's no denying that his choice to include Cheb's voice elevated this song beyond anything I could have dreamed of. Absolute fire!

Cheb Mami wasn’t too well known in America before this was released and he doesn’t sing as much as Sting. After he was recognized for this song, the two did lots of live performances (you can find them on KZfaq) where both vocals are featured more prominently.

Bumped into Sting a couple of weeks ago on a train - 72 years old & still as fit as a fiddle, going strong & he seemed in a really good mood. Hope I’m as fit as him when i’m 72 !

I love this song!!! I lived in Turkey and this song brings back such fond memories of the muezzin calling the men to prayer over the minaret. It took getting used to living one block away from the mosque but 40 yrs later it is a beautiful memory.

LOL - this album did not "bring Sting onto the main stage" - the man was a long-time top artist and had "main stage" status even just after he left the Police. That being said, I do love this song, although I like a couple others on this album even better. Good pick!

To be fair I did say “back to” the main stage because it mentions this was a comeback album on the wiki page. So I meant it like, he was out of the spotlight for a while and this pushed him back into it! 😬

Rick Beato interviewed Sting and it was magnificent. I never liked the Police (saw them twice in 1979), but LOVE Sting. The soundtrack to the IMAX movie: _The Living Sea_ is incredible. A wonderful compilation of his beautiful voice and songs. He really is amazing. Thanks for this!

Some interesting things about this video - it was a collaboration with Jaguar motorcars and some of this footage was used for Jaguars advertising for the then-new Jaguar S-Type sedan. Look up the other singer, Cheb Mami on Wikipedia. There are disturbing sexual allegations leveled against him from a few years after this.
