They are an Armenian-American band who began in the early to mid 90's. Lead singer is Serj Tankien Guitarist is Daron Malakian On bass is Shavo Odadjian Drums is John Dolmayan. They have many songs about gov't, political and social issues from their country as well as around the world.

As a Catholic I went to an Armenian Christian mass to see how it was. Coolest thing I ever did, it was so interesting. I'm sort of all over the place with music and always didn't give them much attention. This song was on at my job and was on repeat throughout the day and WOW its so good

Ok so System of a Down was formed originally in 1994 under the name “Soil”, changed the name a few years later, then released their self titled debut album in 1998. In the band we got Serj Tankian (vocalist), Shavo Odadjian (bass), Daron Malakian (guitar, backup vocals sometimes), and John Dolmayan on drums. They’re all of Armenian descent and formed the band in Los Angeles, which actually has a very significant Armenian community. This album, toxicity, came out in 2001 and was probably their biggest seller and the closes they got to being “commercially successful”. Then in 2002 they put out “steal this album!”, bc of issues between band members they then went a few years without an album until their final double album (or albums I guess) of “Mesmerize” and “Hypnotize” in 2005. They went on hiatus aka a break in 2006, bc of fighting between serj and daron and darons drug use (from what I know, no shade to Daron) but kinda came back in 2017, playing some live shows, but as of this day they’re not going to be putting any new material out. A big issue for them right now is that Serj, who is very left wing, is pissed at John, who’s right wing, for basically shit talking the BLM uprisings and protests this year and always praising Trump (he literally said that trump is the “least racist” president or some other dumb bullshit lmao), but that’s not why they won’t be doing anything for a while. It’s Bc Serj and Daron have solo projects. I prefer Serj’s more, the albums “elect the dead” and “harakiri” are awesome. Darons band is “Scars on Broadway” and he’s the vocalist there, I don’t really care for his voice tbh but check them out too

Very nice summary of their history. Though in terms of their current status, and why they aren't making music, they have stated it boils down more to differences in opinion between Daron and Serj in terms of artistic direction of new music and how to run the band. John and Serj do disagree politically and can be vocal about it towards each other, but they aren't fighting and have said they have very high respect for each other. They are brothers-in-law, so I think they have to keep relations good or they may hear about it from their wives. 😝

Your sweet little faces expectantly waiting for the beginning of the song ... and then .... system of a down comes in screaming! They are a different kind of band, but, hopefully you'll like them. This is one of their best songs. There is NO mistaking a System of a Down song -- NO ONE sounds like them. The lead singer is amazing! (And how about that drum set!!!)

System of a Down (also known abbreviated as SoaD or just simply as System) is an Armenian-American heavy metal band formed in Glendale, California in 1994. System of a down are an armenian-American metal band. The guitarist Daron Malkian was born in LA too armenian parents, the lead singer Serj Tankian and drummer john Dolmayan were both born in beiruit Lebanon and both emigrated too LA at a young age. The band all attended the Armenian american highschool in LA. The band formed in 1994. They went on hiatus in 2005 and sadly haven't made a song since then

the singer even though he is having fun and singing crazy.. he is regarded as having one hell of a vocal range. He is an Armenian and lately he's just been trying to point out the war in Armenia and stuff. For the others... well they are good musicians in their own right. They are all fun.

Keep up the reaction videos bro's, I grew up listening to this music. It's nice to see people younger than myself still enjoying music like this, system of a down is controversial with their lyrics and the songs are so dynamic to the point where you never get bored of replaying them. People need to understand why they go from singing to screaming, because nobody likes music to be monotone unless they have no soul! Make sure you guys check out metal core one band I would suggest is Architects, maybe start out with doomsday or hereafter. +REP

The lead singer, Serj Tankian has made a project of his own 15 years ago, really nice one as well, with his great range. Just look for Serj Tankian - Lie Lie Lie , or Harakiri The guitarist, Daron Malakian did have a project with another band at the same period, called Scars on Broadway. They didn't do any new song since 2006 I reckon, but have been playing together, are they are still friends, and the audience wants them. I would recommend BYOB, Spiders, Sugar, or Cigaro next. Btw, you probably have heard one of their song on radio, even nowadays, it's a pretty soft paced and calm one called Lonely Day. But it was released in the mid 2000' anyway

Serj(vocals and acoustic guitar), Daron(guitar and vocals), Shavo (bass and band manager), and John(drums) are all Middle Eastern born in Arminia (Serj,Daron,John) and Lebanon (Shavo) who grew up in Los Angeles. Serj and Daron met first at their high school in LA and had a band for a bit. The two then met John who replaced their drummer. The last member was Shavo who they hired as a manager but he also played bass so he played with them. The name System of a Down comes from a poem Daron wrote called Victims of a Down and they changed it to System to be closer in listings to their idol Slayer. The band has five studio albums: System of a Down(1999),Toxicity(2001), Mesmerize(2004), Hypnotize(2005), and Steal This Album(2006). They still tour but have yet come out with any new music do to creative differences. If I missed something there are going to be several people who will point it out.

Try the song "Shame on a nigga", my friends.. The original is signed Wu Tang Clan, which is a bomb! A couple of days i find out there's a cover of this song from System of a Down... They hit in '98 with a self titled album with a couple bangers. They were invited to Ozzfest. Awesome songs of theirs include Sugar, Chop Suey, Toxicity, and Aerials. I believe the lead singer got depressed and didn't want to make music anymore after a while, and the rest of the band remains mad at him for it. But that last part is just what I've heard. Back when they were big, after 9/11 when the powers in America were claiming Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, this band was considered political rebellion music. Especially the song BYOB. Good band, stopped before their time!

Yea so I don’t see a comment pinned. 1. Serj Tankian has one of the most unique voices in rock and that would be because they are Armenian. But Serj grew up in war torn Lebanon. The man has seen some s-t. He moved from a catastrophic war zone to LA where people lived happy care free lives and didn’t know that half of what he’d been through. This is where the bands message comes from. They mock the pettiness of Americans and Europe and are very anti war. Like Rage Against the machine, they are very politically outspoken. I’ve seen them live. They’re show is wild. But afterwards, you gotta process everything they just hit you with. I’d recommend y’all check out some lesser known songs. Lost in Hollywood (my fav) and prison song
