This band was called Mother Love Bone until lead singer Andrew Wood died of overdose right before their first album released. Chris Cornell of Soundgarden was Andrew's roommate. Eddie Vedder then joined some of the MLB to form Pearl Jam. Before that, Temple of the Dog.

This album is a tribute album to Andrew Wood, who was the lead singer of Mother Love Bone. Andrew, Chris, Layne.... all friends. Andrew OD-d and it caught them all off guard. The song from this album "Say Hello To Heaven" and "Would?" from Alice In Chains are heavy about Andrew. After his death the band signed on a new singer by the name of Eddie Vedder, and became Pearl Jam. R.I.P. Chris, Mike, Layne, Andrew, Kurt, and all the greats we have lost. My life is poorer with you in it. TY guys for reacting!

Everyone keeps talking about that cover, and yeah it’s great. As big a fan I am of Chris Cornell and Prince, that song belongs to Sinead O’Connor hands-down, IMO. (Just like ‘Hallelujah’ belongs to Jeff Buckley, although Leonard Cohen wrote it and practically everyone has covered it. ) But honestly, Chris’s cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’ is next level. As another favor reactor of mine said MJ’s version is incredible, everything about it. But it doesn’t give you goosebumps. It’s when you slow that song down and really take the lyrics as seriously as they are meant...combined with Chris’s deliverance...wow.

Chris Cornell and Eddie Veder singing together was pure magic. They often sang this song together at each other’s shows over the years after it came it and it was just as good as it is here. Chris Cornell could hit those high notes and hold forever and it looked effortless to watch him. He’d chew gum when he sang this song and didn’t miss a beat!

I’ve got a cool story about Eddie Vedder. First I worked for an insurance company back in the day in the special lines field and remember actually speaking to Eddie about his boat policy! He said enjoyed calling instead of his agent! Very down to Earth and later we were able to meet at a Seattle Pearl Jam show so he was able to put a face to the voice on the phone 📱. ILL NEVER FORGET IT! RIP CHRIS CORNELL. The Seattle scene in the early 1990’s is unsurpassed by anything going on today!

Losing Chris Cornell was one of the most tragic days in music history. That sound in voice that’s similar is that Seattle/Portland, Washington state growl that was born with the 90s era of grunge, from Nirvana to Pearl Jam to Alice In Chains. Thank deep grinding sound is part of the genre. Chris started singing at a grade school age and had more range in octaves than his peers. You have seen his covers of Prince song called Nothing Compares to You, and Michael Jackson’s Billy Jean. I miss Chris. I miss his talent and his voice. I hope he has peace of heart and soul, singing with the angels. Free of all the struggle…. Inner torment both emotional and chemical. ❤️
@ashleydixon4613
@ashleydixon4613 2 жыл бұрын
I love both covers you mentioned, although I must admit: as much as I love Chris Cornell and Prince, to me, “Nothing Compares 2 U” belongs to Sinead O’Connor. (Just like “Hallelujah” belongs to Jeff Buckley!) But his cover of Billie Jean- that is some next-level sh!t. As another (very popular) fave reactor of mine said about it: you gotta love MJ‘s version, it’s amazing...but MJ’s version doesn’t literally give you goosebumps. Slowing it down-really concentrating on the deep meaning to the lyrics behind MJ’s dance beat-and Chris’s delivery... it’s one of those that just leaves you nearly speechless, IMO. ps- I noticed your name and (what I could see of) the thumbnail pic...I’m also a “cat lady” (currently only two cats and one big dog). No current Maine Coons here though, although I can see that changing at some point in the future, but they have to be rescues. I’ve had a brother-sister pair of littermates who’s daddy was a Maine Coon cat and they definitely took after him, in appearance/size!) they’re such wonderful cats- they really are “gentle giants”. 💕

This was recorded up the street from where I live now on the northend of Seattle area. This project was a tribute to Andrew Wood, a person much-loved in the Seattle music scene. To this day, he's the person probably most talked-about and remembered around here, locals in the scene absolutely loved him. He died just after his band Mother Love Bone were signed to a record label, he and Cornell lived together for a time. Pearl Jam came out of the ashes of Mother Love Bone. Just some history for ya.

I think you are both correct. Both artists can sing low and high pitch, but what they did in this song (the production) showcased them in different pockets of the song. And they did it in such a way that it wasn't above the instruments or below the instruments. It was in the exact pockets it need to be to drive the song along a wave.

Chris Cornell is my hero in music. Eddie ain't far behind, but Chris is my favourite singer. And they are perfect foils for each other.. Rest in power Chris, miss you brother. And for fucks sake god look after Eddie..🤘

It was a one album group made up of chris and matt from soundgarden and eddie (on 4 tracks) , jeff, stone and mike from pearl jam.this was there only video.it was a tribute to there friend andrew wood from another seattle band "mother love bone”who had died ,stone and jeff were also in that band before pearl jam formed.this is the first ever song eddie had appeared on it was of course before he joined pearl jam Great reaction 👍🏻🤘🏻
