OMG, I such a "Duranie" (Duran Duran) back in the 80's!!!! John Taylor's base, Andy Taylor 's shred guitar, Tony Thompson 's thunder and then you smooth Robert Palmer. This was a good azz album. I'm getting flashbacks of the other songs.

I met two older bass p[layers, who were rock musicians, and they brought his name up as the best bass player of the 80's. They said that he was the most under-rated bass player of all time. They both told me to listen to Rio again. THat is a hard to play bass routine.

Being in Duran Duran, not many knew Andy Taylor could be a jammer. More talented, than he gets credit for, on guitar. I Might Lie is a cool song that shows his chops and vocal ability. Glad you liked this!! 🤘🤘🎸🎸

I wasn’t putting Duran Duran down and didn’t mean he didn’t have some guitar based songs. I do like some of their stuff. I meant that he has more, heavier stuff that wouldn’t fit their style. His Thunder album is killer!! I do agree with you on your point!! 🤘🤘

The drummer is the late Tony Thompson from Chic! Bernard Edwards was the bassist and Nile Rodgers was the rhythm guitarist! The female vocalists were Norma Jean Wright & Alfa Anderson! Luci Martin replaced Wright in 1978 when she left the group to pursue a solo career!!!

This is when John Taylor (bassist) and Andy Taylor (guitarist) of Duran Duran joined Power Station, and Simon LeBon (lead singer) and Nick Rhodes (keyboardist) of Duran Duran formed their own group called Arcadia. They had a hit called Election Day.

@@brendag5263 While the musicianship in Power Station is far&away: superior and more capable, it was clear that: they just wanted to have fun [I was fortunate enough to get to know Sound Engineer: Jason Corsaro [R.I.P. 😭😭😭😭] later in my life and he related GREAT stories about the band and the recording sessions, as well!] while: the writing and arrangements on Arcadia's album: have more variety, depth and (therefore) continuing impact. They were looking to create something which they, otherwise, didn't feel they had the freedom to do! It is far underappreciated!

Andy Taylor is not that great. (at best: he is an average player. ... with fairly good taste.) John (on the other hand) is superb (and was long-dismissed by non-musican fans of other styles of music (generally)! The only guy who, absolutely, tops him in the " '80s pop-rock" (in the case of who I'm about ro mention: "synth-pop!") is [and this is absolutely inarguable!!!!] is: Nick Beggs [Bassist for: Kaja Goo-Goo (and, later, numerous other, more "modern progressive" style bands, as well as having a solo career and an EXTENSIVE studio player resumé!🤘🤘].

It's Duran Duran (or at least John and Andy), so you know they never miss! Andy had incredible guitar parts in Duran Duran, but no one knew he had these metal solos in him until this project. Meanwhile, everyone knew John Taylor was a great bassist and now he's looked at as one of the best ever. Chic was also a huge influence on Duran so drummer Tony Thompson was like a dream collaboration for the Taylor boys. Finally there was smooth crooner Robert Palmer, who was also a bit of a suprise when it came to his ability to rock out on Poser Station. Sadly, Robert Palmer died in September of 2003 and Tony Thompson died just two months later in November of the same year. Both gone far too early.

Andy Taylor does a great job here. His playing was…….I don’t want to say handcuffed in Duran Duran as there were some cool riffs, but he got to showcase his ability more in The Power Station. His solo stuff is good as well.

Oh, some more Robert Palmer. How about checking out his earlier stuff like the suite of sailin’ shoes/hey Julia/sneakin’ sally through the alley. Sailin' Shoes I believe was originally from Little Feat and Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley was written by New Orleans legend, Allen Toussaint and originally done by Lee Dorsey. Then there's bad case of loving you (doctor, doctor) [another cover], every kind of people, you’re gonna get what’s coming, looking for clues, johnny and mary, you are in my system (cover of The System)

I remember being so gutted when Duran Duran split, but Power Station was a necessary stretching of completely different styles that were being stifled in DD. Power Station was great and I still have my LP. This was such an incredible release and I was then heartbroken to see Palmer go back to solo albums because I greedily wanted more of this. I also love that the girl in the video is Caroline (Tula) Cossey.

What was uncommon in 1984/85 was that all parts were recorded in different countries. The band never even played in the same same room. They passed the tapes around and each member recorded their parts. The album was produced and mixed by Chic member Bernard Edwards (R.I.P.).

Every decade has a "supergroup" and this is the quintessential 80s supergroup. Robert Palmer was experiencing the height of his career around this time, as was Duran Duran. Then you have former Chic drummer Tony Thompson to round them out. Bassist John Taylor from Duran Duran is amazing (I feel he is underrated).

@@keithosmond5730 Depends on what you were into and how old you were, I guess. I was a teenager for most of the 80s, so although the Traveling Wilburys are great, I wasn't listening to them in the 80s. I was listening to Duran Duran and synth pop.

YESSSSSS! I saw them in concert in Atlanta two days after Live Aid. Big fan of DD's bassist, John Taylor, who is the bassist here. 😍 The only DD members here are John and Andy Taylor (no relation). Andy is the guitarist. Sadly, it was revealed at the RRHOF induction ceremony a couple of years ago that Andy has stage 4 prostate cancer.

Summer of '85 when this came out...I was 14. My neighbor had this on vinyl, I had a P-Bass copy but no amp. I practiced the bass line unamped for about 3 hours in his garage playing along to the record. His mother left and we plugged it in and I had the bass line down to a gnat's ass. I'm 53 now and it is still one of the greatest memories of my life.

A BANGER of a cover! This is a Supergroup with John Taylor (bass) & Andy Taylor (guitar) from Duran Duran, Robert Palmer, and the one and only - Chic Drummer Tony Thompson. The band's name came from the recording studio where they created this music THE POWER STATION. A very well known studio used by so many great artists to produce their music. This band was formed by John & Andy who at the time were still a part of Duran Duran but the band had taken a break, some thought they may split up. John & Andy wanted to dive into a harder edge so they formed this band. Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor formed an amazing band called ARCADIA - "Election Day", "Goodbye is Forever". The band did end up getting back together but without guitarist Andy Taylor who wanted to make solo efforts and Roger Taylor (drums) who had grown tired of the craziness the band was in the middle of. Duran Duran went back with just Simon, Nick and John, eventually making the incredible album NOTORIOUS. The POWER STATION, as a band, made an incredible album though - "Harvest For The World", "Murderess" and "Communication" among other songs on this album. They made two albums. LIVING IN FEAR in in the 90's but it didn't have the success that this album did. Unfortunately, Robert Palmer passed away in 2003 so another album was never possible. Check out ARCADIA. A much different sounding album than this but critically acclaimed.

The T. Rex version had great horns. T. Rex was doing a glam rock treatment of Get It on in 1973. This early 1980's version has a clean yet tougher groove. Robert Palmer does an excellent job with vocals. They are both excellent versions of a song that's good for musician's jam session. I like the Power Station version a lot more now than I did 4 decades ago. That means I must have changed as well. Thanks for reacting.

Tony Thompson's drums drive this song. Impossible not to air-drum along. Andy Taylor really shows his guitar chops in this one. And for those in the U.S. who only knew Robert Palmer from "Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor), it was like a revelation. John Taylor lays it down solid. John is a bassist who truly deserves more critical recognition. I like the whole album, but I'd try "Murderer" and "Harvest For The World" as your next tracks. BTW, Tony Thompson was the Drummer for Chic.

4:48 Oh hec yeah! I remember when Power Station album came out and the drums are my favorite. I still to this day want to recreate that sound on my electronic Alesis kit (if anyone knows a voice patch that sounds like this, please let me know). But yes! I don't know the drummer's name (I call him Herbie Hancock) but it's 40 years now I'm still loving that Powerstation sound! The song Murderess is on my mp3 jams for the car right now. I like that album front to back, no filler, no skip songs. and btw, what a nice message to wrap up your video. Thanks guys! Have a blessed day as well you two!

I love that this song is driven by the murderous sound of Chic drummer Tony Thompson. Andy and John Taylor kept the molten rhythm flowing to let Robert Palmer bring home the vocals. Never cared much for the intro to this song, but once it gets going, forget about it. And we really need you guys to bring in Robert Palmer's great hit, DOCTOR, DOCTOR (BAD CASE OF LOVING YOU). It's made for your ears, feet, and hips to dance to.

For anyone who are familiar with the movie Commando starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, on the end credits a song preformed by Power Station was being played and it was called "We Fight For Love" and immediately after hearing it I fell in love with the song. The song does have that typical Power Station vibe to it.

Duran Duran's John Taylor (bass), Andy Taylor (guitar), Chic's Tony Thompson (drums), and Robert Palmer! The Power Station revised Robert Palmers career and he went on to have solo hits in the 80s, it was a "side-hustle" for the Duran Duran members, meanwhile the rest of the group, Simon Le Bon (Lead singer), Nick Rhodes (keyboards), and Roger Taylor (drummer) had their own side group called Arcadia with some great hits too, such as, "Election Day", "Too Late Marlene", "Goodbye is Forever", "The Promise" (with Sting), and "The Flame"! Just remembered the first song I ever heard by Robert Palmer back in the day. It’s called, “You’re gonna get what’s coming”, and you should give it a listen. Thanks for the great channel. BTW, Bills fan here, but forever grateful to you Bengals fans for lifting us all up during and after the Demar Hamlin death and resuscitation during that unforgettable game! Love you bro!
