Ever since I saw the video for "I Wanna Be Somebody" back in 1984 I've been a fan of this band. My favorite album was "The Last Command". W.A.S.P are definetly in my top 5 Metal bands from the 1980:s. Alexis the guitar player Burch was referring to who drank the vodka is the blonde haired guitar player in this video , Chris Holmes.

Funny thing about the saw blades. Blackie also had one for the crotch area as well as one that shot sparks. Blackie also hated playing the bass. In an interview he calls the bass "a tool of ignorance". That's why after Randy Piper and Steve Riley left the band, Blackie took over rhythm guitar and they hired Johnny Rod.

Personally I like the desert imagery. Having lived in New Mexico during most of my metal years, I get it. The desert is a harsh environment, and only wild things that can actually survive there live in it, so to me, it's a perfect setting for metal. And, if you're riding a motorcycle, you HAVE to ride it in the desert! It's a thing. And I don't even have a motorcycle. 😀 W.A.S.P. was one of the "shock rock" bands of the 80s, along with Motley, Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper (who really started the 'shock rock' thing in the 70s), Kind Diamond, etc. Then you had the pretty boy hair metal bands like Bon Jovi, Ratt, Poison. Motley Crue fell into that category for me during their Theater of Pain era. Nothing wrong with that. I consumed it all! 🙂 And, if you think about it, no matter what category of metal it was, it was sure to shock someone! My dad HATED the guys that looked pretty, so I figured that was pretty shocking to him! 🤣

Hmmm...from my point of view regarding the video and the marketing and product direction of the band, it definitely played on all the metal tropes of its time and catered and targeted to its primary audience which were mainly teenage and adolescent males (which I was one in those days prob 18 y/o ish when the song was realeased). The goth and medieval tropes were part of the pop culture at that time as fantasy and sword and sorcery movies/books games etc were extremely popular. I believe the band name (particularly being that it is in all capitals and has periods behind each letter indicates that it's an acronym. It was 'cool' though for the time that the acronym spelled out an insect that stings (innuendo perhaps?) and is also aggressive and thus symbolizes the bands energy and desired identity). I see the desert scene to be very appropriate as the song is about the lustful hot and steamy passions between a taken woman (in red and representing temptation and sin) and her 'secret lover' thus the desert setting. It's awesome that you two are covering this period of music and genre and giving it context. Love seeing and hearing these videos and bands now from a 'more mature' lol perspective. One more point, that was made in your video regarding the National Geographic scene with the walrus tumbling down the cliff. What National Geographic doesn't show or mention to viewers is that the walrus was being pursued by a family of polar bears and was fleeing the bears to avoid being eaten alive (a worse fate than tumbling to your death) so it chose the only other option it had which was to try and escape via the cliff. Either way it's not a good outcome. Why National Geographic chose not to tell views about the polar bears is something to look into if interested. Anyways, keep up the good work on your channel you two and thanks for bringing back all these bands and memories and to get to hear opinions on this material from a newer and slightly older generation (sorry Burch, I'm there too plus a couple years lol).
