Wow I envy you to be in the EPICENTER of western ART! OMG Florence has the best museums in the world. And the history - the bridge over the river Arno, mentioned in Operas Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and the tower in Puccini's Tosca, the Roman sites, thousands of years old. Amazing! Love it!

Hope you and the family are enjoying tbe trip to Italy. Enjoy the beauty and the splendor and history of that country. I had the opportunity to travel to Spain in 1978 on a high school band trip. That was a truly fantastic trip. 9 days in Madrid and surrounding areas. Did anyone fail to tell you the difference in electrical power between th US and Europe. We 120 volts 60 Hz here at home. In Europe they use 240 50Hz. It will burn up you aplliances if you do not have an inverter. Be carefull with electrical usage.

Florence is a magical place, Yes that beautiful cathedral in the middle of town with its 3 distinctly different buildings, And that marble has 3 different colors of white pink and green. And they've been working on cleaning up the pollution off of it which they have to do in cycles but when they clean it that green pops so nice. You saw it in the dusk dark time in this video but when the sunshine hits it on a beautiful blue sky day it is mesmerizing. And that dome is world famous Michelangelo made Saint Peter's dome in Rome But he always stated that nothing could compare to his Hometown's dome.... It was one of a kind and press the limits of technology at that time.

Florence is my spiritual home: 15:05 the Loggia dei Lanzi houses nice sculptures under the canopy. 16:47 you are looking at the Florence Baptistery in front of the cathedral. Don't forget to climb the 463 steps to the top of the dome (ticketed entrance to the side of the cathedral, buying a ticket for this can also get you access to other museums nearby. These contain very old artefacts). Also, don't forget to visit the Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze to see the Statue of David (I'm sure you won't forget).

Totally agree. The view from the top is great, but so is being between the two shells of the dome and getting up close to the frescoes on the interior surface.

16:38 The building in front, is The Baptistry, with doors designed by Donatello, and the tall tower, is for bells. Of course, there's The Duomo, designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. He is considered to be a founding father of Renaissance architecture, was an Italian architect, designer, and sculptor, and is now recognized to be the first modern engineer, planner, and sole construction supervisor. He didn't see its completion, as it took 150 years, to build it. I got to see, the scaffolding he used, to put up the herring bone brick layout. There's a space, between the two layers of domes.

Aw, you and your family look like you’re having a wonderful time. Jamel, I had those same thoughts when I visited Barcelona. I could stand in those ancient squares, staring up at the old buildings, sit on the steps of an old cathedral, or walk down the narrow streets with all the locals and think to myself: This feels like a dream; so surreal. Am I really here? I hope to visit Europe again very soon. Thanks for sharing!❤

When the train, from Florence to Venice, stopped for a few minutes in Bologna, my buddies got McDonald's. I refused, to insult the culinary brilliance of that town. I said "I'll just get something, when I get to Venice". This was, back in 1999.

My favorite large city. I didn’t need a map like I was there in another life, I knew exactly where I was and where everything else was. Ponte Vecchio, Ufizzi Art Gallery, the real David at the Academia museum, the Bardini Gardens. Have a great time. I think the food gets better in the north. Hope you get to Venice, Como, Milan, Piza, Isloa Bella….

That building where you're staying is absolutely beautiful, I'd never want to leave. I Love 😍 old buildings with so much Old World Charm. Our older buildings in Australia are lovely, but compared to Europe they're practically brand new. Two of my sisters once stayed in a Backpackers Hostel which was in a castle. I was definitely green with envy, it was during my final year of High School. I graduated a few weeks after they got back from Europe.

Try the Piazza Santa Maria Novella for some decent bistros. Plus there is a big market building over that way with the vendor food stalls. Florence always so crowded. There is or was in 2019 a leather goods manufacturer place behind the Santa Croce Basillica. Got the Mrs. a beautiful red leather bag and I got a belt, go figure. Villa Gardini has some great views of the city from on high at their outdoor lunch spot La Logetta de Gardini.
