Like the other comments… That wasn’t a stroopwafel. Try a real one. Tip: Drink a beer on a ‘terras’ and order bitterballen. Don’t forget to dip them in the mustard. You’ll love it. Amsterdam is built on wooden pilings, because it it was/is a swampy area. Now some of the them are sinking. That’s why some building tilted to the sides. A tour boat driver told us when we took some Polish friends to see Amsterdam. He concluded with: Ah well, nothing is straight in Amsterdam… Oh, and stay of the bikepaths!

@@WyattandReyka South of the city centre there is a 19th century neighborhood called "de Pijp". Has a large lively outdoor market. The older parts of the South of Amsterdam (easy reachable by metro) are all interesting, specially for architecture lovers. You missed it appears the Vondelpark, the largest city park. And you could also explore suburbs, as they are the result of rigorous city planning and have styles typical of the periods they were built. A little more attention to security than in the centre is required there, as there might be more thieves etc. Not all neighborhoods are completely safe. But as you are from the US you know that problem, I suppose.

@@WyattandReyka Hello Wyatt and Reyka. Nice that you responded. Groningen is the largest city in the north of the Netherlands. About 230 000 inhabitants. Small again compared to cities like Rotterdam and Amersterdam. But we are great in his actions. The Rolling Stones are currently a hot item in Groningen. We have a pop-up shop, because of the release of the Rolling Stones' very last album. And the car from the 'Angry' video clip is currently in Groningen. The exhibition 'Rolling Stones Unzipped' is also currently on display in the "Groninger Museum". As a last chance, after this exhibition has traveled all over the world. The Rolling Stones gave a concert in Groningen in 1999 with 100,000 spectators. And Groningen looks a bit like Amsterdam. We also have canals and an old city center. We also sell syrup waffles on the market ;-). Anyone who comes to Groningen or has been to Groningen is enthusiastic. And we are a real student city. Many educational institutions and a university. In terms of age of the inhabitants, we are the youngest city in the Netherlands.
