There's a reason why B-M is considered a "musicians band". Just the 3 at the back: Kanami on lead-guitar, Misa on bass and Akane on drums are by many musicians considered very skilled. Bass and drum are always in the pocket playing of each other, while the guitar has become prominent with the years, with Miku's improvements as rythmguitarist. When the band was formed, she was supposed to be the singer. Though she was kind of experienced, with her past from an idol-group, which was split up in 2012, it soon proved that her voice was too sweet for rock. It was kind of a self-realisation moment for her, so they brought in the 19 year old Saiki from same management as Miku. With 2 singers they wondered if one could play guitar. Miku volunteered, and got Kanami as teacher.

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. MV is stunningly beautiful. •The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/original lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis. •10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that. •More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole. •Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics. •Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's. •As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band. Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

Band Maid is not a metal band, they call themselves a hard rocking maid band. That said they do use elements of metal in songs and some really dip into metal (Rinne) and often metal elements like Akane’s double pedal work. That said they kick ass and are amazing live. Hell I put a Band Maid patch on my metal battle vest of great bands I have seen live. Only other non metal band on it is Santana. Oh and Konami’s’ (lead guitar) favorite guitarist is Carlos Santana.
