I'm 24 and was raised mainly listening to Hip Pop and RnB. Which means I missed out on listening to A LOT OF OLDIES BUT GOLDIES! I'm super blessed this was recommended to me to listen. Tell me what you think!
_____________________________________
Pink Floyd are an English rock band formed in London in 1965. Gaining an early following as one of the first British psychedelic groups, they were distinguished by their extended compositions, sonic experiments, philosophical lyrics and elaborate live shows. They became a leading band of the progressive rock genre, cited by some as the greatest progressive rock band of all time.
Pink Floyd were founded in 1965 by Syd Barrett (guitar, lead vocals), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass guitar, vocals) and Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals). Under Barrett's leadership, they released two hit singles, "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play", and the successful debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967). The guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour joined in December 1967; Barrett left in April 1968 due to deteriorating mental health. Waters became the primary lyricist and thematic leader, devising the concepts behind Pink Floyd's most successful albums, The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) and The Wall (1979). The musical film based on The Wall, Pink Floyd - The Wall (1982), won two BAFTA Awards. Pink Floyd also composed several film scores.

Just to let you know the next song you listen to or watch by Pink Floyd will be completely different and just as good if not better! "Comfortably numb" from the 1994 Pulse concert on The Division Bell tour Or either "Us and Them" or "Time" from their Dark Side of the Moon album studio version!! David gilmour's the lead singer and lead guitarist Rodger Waters the bassist and main lyricist Rick wright keyboardist and vocals Nick Mason is the drummer. It's a good idea to use headphones or earbuds and always have lyrics available along with the music when you listen to Pink Floyd because the lyrics are always hard-hitting!!! Last comment if you see Pink Floyd in concert at that Division Bell tour the 1994 Pulse concert make sure you are sitting down!!

This only entices me to listen to them more! I didn’t mention it in the reaction, but I was so astounded by the audio design in this song. Newer music in this generation does audio engineering really well but the engineering and everything that went into this track blew me away! I will definitely put your recommendations on my list for personal use and for professional reaction use :)

@@killbimuPink Floyd are MASTERS at music and sound. You can listen to their songs many times, and still find little details in the audio background that you missed before. And remember, they weren’t recording digitally - all their musical editing was done with razor blades and editing blocks.

They were known for their concept albums. Dark side of the Moon was released in 1973 ( 50 years ago) long before the keyboards and Synthesizers that had all those sounds built into them at their finger tips. They had to create the sounds in a studio. Their music goes from one song to another and takes you on a journey. I’ve been listening to them for 52 years (I’m 65) and their music is timeless ! One song in particular to listen to is Time. It’s on the Dark Side Of The Moon album. The lyrics are so insightful for a bunch of 20 something year olds at that time! This album should be listened to ,without interruption , from start to finish. It’s 48 minutes of genius! It’s been on the top 100 greatest albums of all time for over 19 years. Probably longer now. Enjoy the ride! I’m glad you did the pulse version of Comfortably numb…. I still get the chills everytime I listen to this! Anything from the pulse tour is a winner in my book!! ✌🏻❤️🎶🎵

Syd Barrett, a founding member of PF, descended into psychosis. The questions the song asks are asking what state their friend and former band mate is in. Can he tell all these things, can he make sense of life. The truly sad part of this process was, that one day during recording, an unusual looking individual showed up at the studio. After some time, they finally recognized the man as Syd, their long lost friend. His looks had changed so dramatically that it took some time for them to realize who he was. Yes, they wished he was there, not physically, but in totality. This song rips my heart out every time I hear it.

Pink Floyd were a very experimental and inventive band, and yet every album is a different experience. Every song on a progressive album is totally different......yet the fans KNOW it is Pink Floyd as soon as they hear the music. Pink Floyd are best heard live, especially for this song......the 1994 Pulse video is as good as music gets. Next up, i suggest the original vinyl or CD of Time and The Great Gig In The Sky together as one song.......as they are meant to be heard. The Great Gig i as the end of our own personal Time. Then the live Comfortably Numb from Pulse, 1994.

There are 11 other studio LPs my fav album is this one which you have listened to the title track , the LP is all about its co founder Syd Barrett who was lost due to LSD use and became Lost in The Woods . I enjoyed seeing you discover Pink Floyd, I would agree with others who have suggested that you check out their 1994 Pulse concert, and continue to see how far the Pink Floyd rabbit hole goes, a journey that I'm sure you will be grateful of taking, you asked for some other band suggestions from this era, there are indeed many good ones, there's Jim Morrison and the Doors, LA woman, riders on the storm and many more, and then there's Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs and others, Then Edgar Winters, Frankenstein and others, Then Joe Cocker, With a little help from my friends and others, then Janis Joplin, Me and Bobby Magee, and others, Then Black Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath and others, Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Hendricks, Roy Orbison, So Many Awesome bands to choose from !! Music that if you listen to all of it, you will understand why us old people are the way we are, over time you will enjoy taking the journey into this music era, Looking forward to seeing your reactions, God Bless.

Funny you mentioned a paint brush and canvas. I remember listening a Pink Floyd interview in the early 80s. Just as MTV was just starting, and all the artists were having to make videos. They said that they didn't like making the videos because music was supposed to be a blank canvas for each individual to use for there on video in there head, not some predetermined iidea some video producer created.

total anonymity gave you the jist of the story , the watered down P R release that is used these days. the truth is more tragic. after the success of dark side of the moon the band was in studio working on ideas for the next album. except for sid barret. when their manager arrived informing them that something had happened to him. he was found at his home trapped inside his own mind after a large dose of LSD. he never fully came back to reality. the entire album wish you were here is dedicated to him and tells about the pressure of the music industry that drove him to find relief thru heavy narcotic use.

Thanks for reviewing this. As you’ll discover, PF isn’t like any other band. Supposedly this was written about one of the band’s founding members, Syd Barrett, who recorded their first three albums with the band, before succumbing to a combination of mental health issues and psychedelic drugs. He became erratic in both his playing, and eventually in even showing up to gigs. When that happened, the band asked another friend to step in and cover for him. That guitarist was David Gilmour, and the rest is history. The only problem is, the author of the song has said it wasn’t specifically about Syd. 🤷 A little background; the music eventually fades into the wind, supposedly because at the time it was recorded, the band had not heard from Syd in many years. He was, as they say, ‘in the wind’. Also, if you delve into other PF album cuts, you’ll find that their songs don’t begin and end in the traditional manner. Each song leads into the next, with no breaks. With many PF albums, the only break was when you flipped the vinyl over. Finally, as many others have and will tell you, the best versions of many Floyd songs are the PULSE Concert versions. It’s been called one of the greatest concert tours ever recorded, and the pinnacle of that magnificent night was “Comfortably Numb”. They brought down the house with it. You REALLY need to react to it. (And as a side note, I had the privilege of seeing the tour, and it was even better than it looks, which is saying a lot.) Thanks, brother.

Great song, great album. Wish you weren’t missing little nuances by talking. You can miss SO MUCH and takes 100 times to hear and feel the vibe . May have to subscribe with the idea of great bands like this on your channel!

I appreciate this comment a lot. When I upload a reaction, there’s times when to just enjoy the sound and times to talk. I’m still fairly new to reaction content so I’m still trying to find that balance. This comment has made me more aware! So thank you! 🤘🤘

“Wish You Were Here” deals with that mental inability - the refusal, even - to engage with reality, and it served as much as a rallying for Waters as a sad tribute to Barrett's better days.

I feel like they conveyed so much with saying so little. Truly magic being made. I can’t wait to discover more from them and other bands alike.
