IZ is an inspiration and was loved by all. I was at Makua when they spread his ashes from the Hokule'a. Cars stopped along the 2 lane road leading to Ka'ena bringing traffic to a stand-still. Hundreds of people were wading in the water and hundreds more were on land. A procession of big rigs blew and held their horns echoing through the valley while his ashes were placed into the ocean making it sound as if the State of Hawaii was crying . . . it's a moment I will never forget. An incredible celebration of life for an incredible man!!

Someone from Hawaii, the furthest you could get from Nigeria, from over 25 years ago, with just 1 instrument in his hand, touched your soul. Isn't the world and the ability to "record" something just so wonderful (at times)?

Every time I go to Hawaii I hear this song played in various places and it has become my favorite Hawaiian song! He is truly a treasure to not only his home of Hawaii but to the entire world!

Thanks, Ovuada - his voice is so calming, and beautiful - and seems like nobody ever mentions that he is a massive man - way beyond what one should be -- I don't care at all how he "looked" but I do feel sad that he passed so young... yet - his send-off was great - he was obviously deeply loved and appreciated.. Wish we could have had a few more years from "IZ" --

When everyone was in the ocean it was kind of a last goodyby.. if you notice they had his ashes in an IPU.. a gourd that is hollowed out and used as an instrument in traditional music in Hawaii … everyone was in the water putting him to rest so he could forever be with the island .. so much talent lost too early

❤when my mom was in her last two days, in hospital, my niece and I sang this to her over and over. The nurses loved it too, because it did bring peace to them as well.

Las mejores voces del mundo han sido de artistas que no han vivido mucho, Michael Jackson 50 años, iz 38 años, Elvis Presley no recuerdo.. Nino bravo no recuerdo pero estos 2 últimos murieron jóvenes y no tan mayores 😭😭

Only Hawaiians can pronounce Hawaiian without a translation dictionary. Kamakawiwo'ole is pronounced Kamaka-wee-woh oh-lee. As a white guy, I practiced pronouncing it right dozens of times.

Good on you... but please do understand that the last half of this video is of his funeral with his ashes being spread. Look at the flags. His nickname was IZ. This is not a downer. This is an upper! A celebration of his life!
