I feel a lot of old school rap had quite a bit more substance in it, than the majority of mainstream hip-hop songs we have to listen to today..what we listened to back then was spoken from that person's personal experience their pain and hurt and usually came with a message for the listener..but I think thats slowly going away now, and all theirs left to rap about is money,drugs and women unfortunately..but theirs still a few good ones out their like hopsin.

Theres always been good and bad music of every genre. You just gotta look for it because what's popular is not always what is good

I don't agree actually. It's very easy to find that kind of music if you follow the right artists or know where to look. But if you listen to Top 100 playlists, you won't find much of it. People in general just want a good beat and voice when listening to music, something that's easy to listen to. They aren't trying to listen to lyrics or to disect complex rap schemes. I never listen to any kind of money/drugs/women songs, yet I'm never short of music to listen to :) The main problem here IMO is how it's all called rap and hip-hop, while being so wildly different kinds of music.

@@kbsskb788 I know..thats the reason why I made sure to say "mainstream" cause for anything that is not so, you must look up or do a bit of searching..unless you are already listening and following someone who may not be wildly known but consistently has good music.

Hopsin is a very very underrated rapper. I personally think he's a old soul he raps about his life which made Tech N9ne notice him

You should listen to Aesop Rock if you haven't already. I like the way you break the bars down and Aesop's lyrics are very abstract in my opinion. Love your reactions!
