Because history doesn't repeat, but it almost always rhymes. The bigger question I want to know is, why are so many acting like we're living in unprecedented times, like the stuff that's happening is new? I swear if I hear another fool say something like...... "OMG if you sang that song/told that joke today Eminem/George Carlin/Patrice O'Neil would have gotten canceled in a heartbeat!!" No they wouldn't have, people got canceled 20yrs ago, it just didn't have a catchy name, and social media wasn't as prevalent for every tom dick and hairy to post their opinion...lol.

GREAT reaction! This is a protest song in the Bush the Elder years following Reagan. This was a call, a yell, a scream to get off our asses, and pay attention. Some of us did, but many of us didn't. 😔 Vernon Reid absolutely KILLED that guitar. All of them were so immensely talented. This was all over radio, and MTV back when it came out. Predictably they received a LOT of push back for being Black men playing "white man's" hard rock/ metal. They should have lasted longer, because they were fantastic. The issues they warned us about are the same ones we need to be aware of today. If you believe that your chosen leader is always right, you've already been misled and have become part of a cult. 😔

I think it's because they refused to keep making this song over and over; each album almost felt like a new band. It throws off a lot of folks who want to hear the same sound each time, like AC/DC. In Living Color really stretch their musical ability and aren't afraid to try new things, which leads to a small, insanely loyal fan base, but doesn't help for airplay sadly.

This song caused a RIGHTEOUS moshpit at one of my school dances. THE WHOLE FLOOR WAS IN AN UPROAR. The teachers just stood, ready to break up any ensuing fights... But none happened. We all came together on that one: jocks, punks, goths, gangbangers, wallflowers, EVERYONE got tossed and had a blast. UNITY occurred. Wish it could stayed like that, a couple years later during the Riots. Heady days. Protests at school in the form of walk-outs, flights on the football field between rival gangs, kids getting arrested and hauled away... During a time of togetherness?? Brutal. L.A. , man. Gotta love it.

This song has always been with me my adult life. We are conditioned by commercials, news, our leaders, and church. Even our parent's, for those from a dysfunctional family. They take that word "Woke" and mangle it. Woke is being aware of the conditioning, and breaking it. It's fine to have influences, but at the end of the day you got to make a decision for yourself. Because we could be in danger of people deciding for you.

Vernon Reid is amazing. So are the other members! Saw them way back when and then earlier this year. They are fantastic live. Better than ever!!

3:40 From your lips to 50 million ears. You shoulda been there when this came out nearly 40 years ago. If there was an internet then, they would have broken it. This band was just stupid talented. I've got Glover's (singer) and Reid's (guitar) solo stuff and it's all f*ing amazing. I never understood why they weren't bigger. My late husband got to see them in a little club in Cleveland on their first tour. I saw Queen five times and he was still able to hold that over my head. RIP SBZ.

“Only you can set me free” is a plea. Remember the image of throngs of desperate people working together to put a child over the fence. 1 and 1 (plus good will) make 3

This came out when I was a teenager. Love it. Wish they’d had more that made the charts.
