if you're still trying to figure out speed metal/ thrash ---- the primary 4 bands that define the genre are Metallica (90s Metallica is not terribly "speed metal'- so limit it to 80s stuff) and anything by Megadeth/ Anthrax/ Slayer -- see also Death (the band)

Freaking Awesome or what! Try their One Track Mind, another killer cut. Lemmy is such a legend, I saw the original Motorhead open for Ozzy Osbourne doing the Blizzard of Ozz tour with Randy Rhodes on lead guitar but after Lemmy incinerated the arena, Ozzy had to kick butt and Randy made sure of that. The second time I saw Motorhead it was point blank in the old Agora Ballroom in W Hartford CT and we new we were in for it as soon as Lemmy hit the first note. My ears rang for a couple days and suffered a little hearing loss, but looking back at those 2 shows, I would not trade those experiences for anything. Rock On and Enjoy! 🎶🎸🎤🎸🎶

Lemmy is a legend! He was the most badass rockstar that you can think of and at the same time the most humble, kind and honest person you will ever meet. I had the pleasure to spend some drinks and a good talk with him once. What made it different from meeting other "stars" was, that he was really listening and talking honestly. I will treasure that until the day I die. RIP LEGEND!

If I may suggest, this is a perfect time to take advantage of the fact that Lemmy was also the bassist and sometime vocalist for Hawkwind. Motorhead performed at least two of the songs Lemmy wrote with Hawkwind. The one I think you'd enjoy most is "Lost Johnny." It's a very stripped-down version of Lemmy's song, since Hawkwind was/is a large, Space-Rock sort of band, but the Motorhead version has all the essentials of the song, just scored for a trio instead of a large ensemble. Then you could give the recording of Hawkwind performing "Silver Machine" a try for a taste of Lemmy singing and playing with a far larger band. I'd say that any day you get to hear Lemmy play and sing is a good day. --Dan

The only other bassist I know of that is also the lead singer is tom arraya from slayer, lemmy just plays the bass a lot more fast than tom arraya. Almost like a regular guitar instead of a bass.

"We're Motorhead. We play rock n' roll"... Lemmy's standard introduction to every show. Every show I saw anyways, saw them 9 times between '83 and '93-ish, might have been '92... usually couldn't hear anything for a day or two after the show....

Brilliant commentary!I never got to see Lemmy/Motorhead unfortunately but have seen Hawkwind a bunch of times.Lemmy always said with his Rickenbacher bass 'I'm just rock n roll turned up to 11'🤔 which is where the Spinal Tap reference comes from.Thankyou.

strong raspy voice and awesome guitar and drums-of course you know this band/Lemmy wrote 2016 just done by Sabaton. A side note-he got his name Lemmy instead of Lenny as he was always saying "lemmy borrow a fiver..."

What was interesting to see with Lemmy was that he had the mic above him and not in front of him...he had to hang the mic so high to straighten his throat to be able to sing...

The writer of the "factoid" subtitles didn't do his research on at least one point. Wild Bill Hickok wasn't an outlaw. He was an army scout, town marshall, gambler, and showman.

Check out the tune "Motorhead".. Lemmy was literally a speed freak.. back in the day the slang for speed freaks was 'motorhead'.. The band ,his entire life, was based on speed. Rhythmically and pharmaceutically.

I remember sitting with them at the bar of St Albans City Hall (Now Civic Hall), back in 1978 before they became really famous. Didn't have a clue at the time who they were but I had heard of Lemmy and the original Hawkwind song Motörhead. Once I heard their opening version of Motörhead, I was converted!

Glad you checked it out. I'm sure you'll get lots of recommendations. One of my favorites is "In The Name Of Tragedy" (live version) in Dusseldorf, Germany. He was about 60 I think and still great! You will get to hear him talk while he introduces the song so you can compare talking and singing. - "Born to lose, live to win"

Lemmy was a straight up guy who had been a roadie for The Jimi Hendrix Experience. No ego, no frills. Despite his hobby of German WW2 militaria collecting, he told you straight what he thought and was very approachable. I liked that about Lemmy, as he was always straight talking and did not give a toss what others thought of his comments, like take it or leave it I do not care. A thoroughly lovely bloke, who despite being able to drink anyone under the table, was a magnificent guitarist who stated that he was a guitarist who plays bass rather than a bass guitarist. If you listen closely you will note that Lemmy actually plays the bass like a lead guitar. Lemmy had his falling out with Fast Eddie Clarke when he left the group, but according to Eddie he never left. He was there for the duration, but due to the arguments between him and Lemmy he was sacked. Although Motorhead continued as a band, Eddie brought something special to the music that could not be replaced or replicated. After his departure the music was never the same again. I missed Eddie in Motorhead. Lemmy, Phil, and Eddie were special as a trio, but after they broke up the magic was gone for me in the music. Listening? The next one to go for is The Hammer with the exact same line up (Lemmy, Phil & Eddie). This is Phil 'Filthy Animal' Taylor's song. Phil came from Hasland near Chesterfield in England (a couple of miles only from where I come from), and he is buried there. However, he and his family moved to Leeds, and this is where he took up drumming. Phil was the first thrash metal drummer, and he perfected the use of two base drums in his kit. Phil could have his weird moments, but as a drummer he was phenomenal. I miss Motorhead. Lemmy, Phil, and Eddie, all gone now, were one explosive, dynamic, and phenomenal trio. All in Heaven now playing to the angels.

The reason he has the Mic down and his head facing up to the mic is because he used to play in biker bars and people used to fight. So he would lift his head up to avoid getting hit by a glass bottles

That voice was the product of chain smoking and Jack Daniels. Also, Lemmy positioned his mic like that for personal comfort and because it helped him avoid seeing that there were only ten people and a dog in the audience in the days when there were only ten people and a dog in the audience. Phil Taylor, the drummer, got the name Philthy Animal because they had to make him bathe while he was on tour. Fast forward to 2008 and check out their cover of David Bowie's "Heroes". they are a bit more polished by that time. Their cover of The Rolling Stones "Sympathy for the devil" off of 2015's Bad Magic (Their 22nd and final) is also really good. Another Tidbit. Lemmy never referred to Motorhead as a metal band. he just called it all "Rock N Roll"
