This song is about the singer Ryan Adams by the way, who is much older than her (“you were in a band when I was born) and does indeed sing with an English accent.

@@Fucorii There's a NYT article about it called "Ryan Adams Dangled Success. Women Say They Paid a Price" that explains everything pretty well. Basically in short: She got to know him through a mutual friend who introduced them because the friend thought Ryan would be able to help her in her career. They met, and worked together on her song Killer and later ended up hooking up/dating. At the time, she was 20 and he was 40. He became emotionally abusive/controlling, always demanding to know where she was at every moment, pressuring her into leaving social situations she was in to have phone sex, etc. I think even before they were dating she was asked to bring something up to his hotel room once and when she came in the room he was waiting for her nude? That's the basics re: Phoebe (from what I know!) but there are other allegations against him, notably by his ex-wife Mandy Moore and by a girl that was referred to as "Ava" in the article. "Ava" was 15/16 when Ryan sent her explicit messages and exposed himself in video calls with her (they also got in contact under the pretense of Ryan claiming to want to help her with her music career)

I would very much want more by her! Random thoughts: Phoebe did a cover of Bo Burnham's "That funny feeling" last year, as a tie in to your most succesful reactions so far. "Kyoto" and "I know the end" would be my favourites of her own songs She also has a side project as a duo with Conor Oberst called "Better Oblivion Community Center" which is an phenomenal album

Go listen to her album Punisher. Absolutely brilliant. So many good songs. I know the end is a great song but the album should be listened as a whole. Such a talent.

Love this song! I’d recommend Smoke Signals next. I consider it some of her best songwriting. Funeral is also a beautiful and fascinating song

yess phoebe is my all time favourite musician!! highly recommened looking at her albums 'stranger in the alps' and 'punisher' every single song is incredible but my favs are 'i know the end', 'icu', 'kyoto' 'garden song', 'scott street' and 'georgia (the live version is better in my opinion)' she also did a cover of 'that funny feeling' which i think youd like considering your a fan of Bo :)

The song was written about Bridgers' ex-boyfriend Ryan Adams, who produced her debut EP Killer and released it on his record label PAX AM. The song gained renewed attention in 2019 when Bridgers joined a chorus of women accusing Adams of abuse. At the time, seven women - including Adams' ex-wife Mandy Moore and singer/songwriter Phoebe Bridgers - accused Adams of championing rising female artists and then exploiting them and stifling their ambitions, often for his own sexual gain. Of the song's relevance to the situation, Flood Magazine writer Anya Jaremko-Greenworld said "when Bridgers sings sadly on the chorus, 'There are no words in the English language / I could scream to drown you out,' she’s wrong. Adams was drowned out last week by the voices of women in the music industry, harmonizing in fury and in liberation."

Definitely need to do a Phoebe deep dive! Moon Song, Chinese Sattelite, Smoke Signals, Funeral, Kyoto, Killer, Punisher, ICU, I Know the End (probably my favorite song of hers) and many more. I would also recommend checking out her cover of Bo Burnham's That Funny Feeling, too!
