Tommy Shaw kills it on this!! Styx was an absolutely amazing band back in the 70’s and 80’s but got a bad rap from critics when they came out with Mr. Roboto. They really are incredible!

As a Styx fan since 1976, it's nice to see them getting respect these days. They were once considered (by many hard core rockers) a fluff, commercial, corporate type band. But man, do they kick ass. Styx was also my fist ever concert.

Please do “Too Much Time on My Hands” Styx played a concert at my high school in 1974... their album came out and they were getting massive air play but still honored their booking at the school. Cool dudes!❤ Back then I would say we had a great choice in local bands...Styx, Chicago, REO Speedwagon.

Deep rabbit hole...keyboardist Dennis DeYoung wrote most of the power ballads and guitarist Tommy Shaw wrote most of the heavier bangers...Sweet Madame Blue, Too Must Time on My Hands, Rockin the Paradise, Babe, Lady, Snowblind, Blue Collar Man, Rockin the Paradise, Fooling Yourself, Grand Illusion...

I've been a fan since 1976! Their poster from the Grand Illusion album hung on my wall throughout High School and I was absolutely in love with Tommy Shaw. (Along with many others. Hey. I was a teenage girl. Lol) Also, the Grand Illusion Tour was my very first concert. Somewhere along the way I lost that poster and not that long ago I bought an album off of eBay so I could have the poster in it. Lol. 🤷🏻‍♀️ As you may guess, I am a huge fan!

Styx has been my favorite band since 1977 listening to "Fooling Yourself" in a friend's car on 8-track tape of the album "The Grand Illusion" :) We wore that out! You like surprises - good. With 3 leadsingers/songwriters (Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw/John Curulewski, James "JY" Young) Styx has a wide variety of song styles with common characteristics of surprise/originality, 3-part harmonies, and mostly/eventually uplifting/hopeful messages. Speaking of uplifting, another Tommy Shaw song is the aforementioned "Fooling Yourself"(Album: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l9aErMKIyuCYhmg.html, Live: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNh0d918tMnagHU.html ). For a James "JY" Young song I'll suggest an early years song "Young Man" (or "Miss America", "Snowblind"). For a John Curulewski song I'll suggest "A Day". Also checkout the list of songs I put in the comments of your reaction to "Come Sail Away". Their best stuff came from collaboration where each brought something.

GREAT song!! Been a Styx fan since 1974 when my older brother brought the 45 single Lady & I stole it from him. Styx Equinox is the first album I ever bought with my own money and I wore out Side 2 of that album. I had to purchase another Equinox album about a year or so later. It will always be my favorite album of all time. I am hoping you will someday review & play Suite Madame Blue off the Equinox album. It's my favorite all time Styx song . If you do review this epic track please play the prelude first ( Prelude 12) it leads perfectly into Suite Madame Blue. After Equinox, I purchased Styx's The Grand Illusion album (1977) and then Pieces Of Eight album (1978). They are two Styx's greatest albums EVER. After Pieces Of Eight I then went back and purchased Styx's Crystal Ball (1976) album. Tommy Shaw who sings lead on Renegade made his Styx debut on the Crystal Ball album. Tommy still fronts Styx, and they are still going strong today and they just recently released an album in 2021 Crash Of The Crown. The album is GREAT as was their release before that The Mission (2018). I own every album in the Styx catalog. Thanks so much for playing and reviewing Renegade.

Fan since teens and singer right here, and song, is why. Styx was huge back in the day. They still tour today. What band blows up, tours the world, breaks apart/stays together, continues touring for decades...stops in your hometown of 1000 and misses it?!?! 😳😆😭 Moi!!🤦‍♀️ I'll not discuss that song you mentioned...that was the end for me. 🤨 Try "Blue Collar Man," "Foolin Yourself" or "Crystal Ball" you may like. ❤👍🏽

Graduated in 1974. One of my favorite bands. Mr. Roboto was one of the songs broke the band up. The rest of the band thought Dennis DeYoung was wanting them to go too showtune. They wanted Rock.
@menotyou8369

Tommy Shaw was forever trying to pull Styx into the hard rock genre, but Dennis DeYoung kept pushing it into the showtunes genre. For a while it was a perfect mix, but Tommy finally had enough and left to form his own bands. I once had the pleasure of watching Tommy from about five feet away, playing solo at a pizza bar in Seaside Heights New Jersey to a crowd of maybe 20 people, there wasn't even a cover charge,.

Styx was my first concert, I went to see them when I was in high school, back in 1977 or 78, in Spokane. I then bought every Styx tape and listened to them nearly exclusively on the 6 hours drives to and from college for the next year or so. I loved how different their songs were from each other. I confess, when I was getting tired on a drive, roll down the window, and turn Renegade UP and go just a tad faster than the speed limit... that got me through some boring drives across the wheat fields of the Palouse. :)

Been a Styx fax since 1988. I first heard them at my best friend Corey's house. He moved to my hometown in Cali from Illinois. He grew up a Styx fan as they were from Chicago. We immediately became friends after he heard me talking to my other buds about Dungeons and Dragons which he loved playing and asked if he could join our group. We just hit it off. So months into our friendship, I was hanging out at his place so I could play the game "Pools of Radiance" on his Commodore 128 (that was a big deal computer back then!). He asks me if I knew Styx which I did not. He puts on the cassette Grand Illusion album which I was really digging. Then the song "Man In the Wilderness" came on, and i was absolutely hooked! I wanted to hear that again and again and to this day still my #1 fav song by Styx. Sadly about 5 years later, Corey moved away and we lost touch (no Facebook then), but I never stopped loving Styx's music and they are among my top 5 favorite bands of all time.

Been listening to Styx since I was in 7th grade in ‘78?. I borrowed the high school neighbor’s Grand Illusion album and didn’t return it for 4 months. Memorized every song on there! After that I backtracked to their previous works and followed closely until the album happened that was their undoing: Kilroy Was Here. Mr. Roboto especially caused division in the band I think, and as fans, we weren’t ready for something like that yet in the mid 80’s.
