Most of this record is subliminal shots at NaS with Jeru Da Damaja and Raekwon/Ghostface catching strays. Basically, this is Big listening to NaS’ record The Message and responding to that record. As a whole, the whole song is Big responding to the hate that was coming his way for becoming super successful commercially and people thinking he lost his edge because he wouldn’t respond to 2Pac’s attack toward him.

In Jay Z's Dead Presidents 2 Jay says "without rap I'd be crazy straight, been making money since eighty-eight" that was a reference to his drug dealing. Big says in this song "conscious of your nonsense in eighty-eight, sold more weight..." Also Nas addressed this song in Last Real Nigga.

Damn I love your reactions and your breakdown but you be making me feel old as shit! Ain't got nothing to do with you, I guess words change, slang changes. "To blow", used as a verb, is to smoke weed or, in a different context, to get big and come up, which is how you understandably interpret "10 gs for blow". But 100 percent, he's using "blow" as a noun, the universal (back then at least) term for powder coke, which, converted to freebase, was Biggie and really damn near everyone's hustle back then. It's hard to paint the picture of how much crack was king back then. No exotic, no E pills, back then dudes from the hood wasnt down with being fiends, and the market wanted crack and dudes became millionaires off that shit. In my city (Reading) heroin was king in the 90s but it always shocked me when I travelled how pervasive crack was damn near everywhere else. Most shit has gotten worse since then, but the younger generation losing their taste for Coke was a positive. Ain't nobody talking bout that dumbass shit no more. If y'all would just leave the opiates alone lol Again I only comment bc you open minded and dont pretend to know what you don't know, humble enough to say so. I go through it. First time I heard the word plug used as a connect, it broke my ears, bc when I was coming up, "dudes a straight plug" meant a lame, a nut. Go figure
