First time on a Canoe (Old Town Next)

Hey Everyone! Just wanted to share my experience using an Oldtown Canoe for the very first time. This canoe is a kayak/canoe hybrid so you can paddle it with a double bladed paddle. Its Primary stability is a little tipsy but the secondary stability is quite nice. Its quick and fast on the water. Tracks very straight and require very little energy to paddle. I look forward to adding a canoe to my boat garage.
I had the chance to race a kayak on the water. To be fair it wasn't an even match up since since the Canoe has such a smooth and flat bottom. Kayak has a lot more uneven surfaces for transducer mount and scupper holes which cause more drag ect. It was a fun race against the Jackson Kayak Liska regardless.

Always on the lookout for a Next! Have a OT Pack... best boat ever. Owned a ton of kayaks of all types...still have 2, canoes are much better for me for paddling and fishing both.

@usernumber09 totally depends on the boat and how you intend to use it. I have and like both canoes and kayaks...each are special in their own way. Best days are riding my Harley or paddling. Hope you get to paddle a bunch!

Huy, great video. You can definitely see how fast it is. I have never liked canoes, as they just don't have the stability of a yak. Great to see a canoe/yak hybrid. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely not stable but speed really makes up for it. I think it would be really fun for non fishing trips. Like a nice casual paddle down a river and stream. Thank you for watching

Nice opening footage Huy. Haha I would love to see you fall in. The canoe is so unstable compared to the kayak. The snake is not dead just hibernating hahaha

I got mine last spring & used it all summer. I did 2 camping trips with it. It easily held. All my gear & I find it very stable. I’m very happy with it.

The Next is fast. I don't think that sit-on-top would beat it with anyone in the seat. That Next is tippier than I thought. That's an Eastern Garter snake.

What is secondary stability?

secondary stability would be the ability to remain stable and afloat when tipped on its side.

I think fishing from a canoe takes everything that scares people away from kayak fishing and puts them all in one package. I have fished from a canoe with my father and a trolling motor on a jerry rigged outrigger set up. So unstable. Not fun.

haha I'm actually considering a canoe in the future. More so for river trips ect.
