Mine was 2 months early and I took my sweet ass time like an IDIOT. By the time my contractions were 2 minutes apart, we just threw shit in bags (snacks, baby clothes that my daughter was too small to wear, soap, clean clothes, my Roku, books, and random crap that I thought I needed with preg brain), I showered, we stopped by Walgreens for a fluff pillow and blanket to help my contractions, and then once at the hospital, we LEFT bc I thought I still was only having false contracts and started to drive to my ob appointment instead before turning around and going back to the hospital. 45 minutes later after they tried to stop everything with magnesium, my daughter's foot popped out and I was rushed to emergency surgery. Luckily, I was tiny, so it took them 35 mins to get her out safely :) then I got to boop her nose high on anesthesia before they rushed her to NICU at a different hospital. She was a 2lb 8oz, head full of curly hair, olive skin toned beauty 🥹 almost 9 months later and she's a 12.8lbs, crazy, curly curly headed, little nutter butter 🥰

well, they don't allow you to eat in case you need surgery like a C-section so an external way to hydrate your skin and chapped lips would probably help.

​@@mrbanana6464 if it's planned C-section, no water. You're gonna be hooked to IV. It's treated like any other surgery. If it's unplanned, like emergency C-section when the labor is not going well, you're allowed food and drink until it's decided that you're going to have C-section.

​@@WolfRose11true if they have to induce and perform a cesarean section Yes this is correct.. as far as an average birth goes you must need something to get you through labor and delivery you can't do it on broth and ice.. as long as it is a traditional labor and delivery then eating small bits at a time is essential so that they have the strength to do what they need to do that is coming. 👌🤗

Wisdom here! Some hospitals do give you a folder, but especially with your first it would not hurt.

I packed so much, only used my toiletries and baby's going home outfit. I completely forgot a folder but thankfully they gave us a new parent print outs that were in a folder so I put all our paperwork in there.

Also allow the nurses to keep the baby as much as they will so both parents can rest. This is the only time you're going to get this much help ever. I was in hospital for 3 days after a pretty traumatic 12 hour labour that resulted in an emergency cesarean. I had some complications and a lot of pain so the nurses brought in my son for feedings only. I was really grateful once I got home for the rest they allowed.

I know tons of mothers who did their makeup during labor and after baby is born for in hospital pictures. So makeup totally makes sense….and if you’ve ever been induced, you know very well you may have TONS of times to play games or read, etc.

You are so right. No time for anything. Just some comfy clothes and your phone charger is all you need

And multiple changes of clothes. I brought 1, ended up needing a C section, and so wore dirty clothes for days 😬

Why, for waterbirthing?

​@ESm some hospitals have a jacuzzi tub in the room suit. Taking a bath and getting a message can help with contractions or to kill time. The nurses don't want surprise naked partners, so Swimsuits are needed.

Yes it's for water births! It's so that if the partner gets in the tub with, to help as either support or as someone to just lean on for more comfort instead of leaning against the hard edge, they have something they can put on instead of just hopping in fully dressed. Or as they said above, so there isn't any "surprise I'm naked!" moments for any nurses or doctors that may come in for checks on mom and baby or any other reason they pop in. It's honestly so much more trouble than it's worth in the hospital, because they have to approve you getting in, and if you've already broken your waters, god help you because they fight you tooth and nail to avoid letting you get into any kind of tub or jacuzzi situation. At least in my case they did. I got told no flat out. I was livid, and asked them why bother putting me in a room with a tub, and having that option if you aren't even going to let me try to birth my baby that way. It could've been because of my high risk status, or the fact that I'd already broken my water, and was actively trying to avoid a epidural, I ended up caving and getting one at the nurses and anesthesiologist's advice. I was screaming from the pain of the contractions that pitocin brought on. I'd had Braxton Hicks for the last three weeks of my pregnancy and was having trouble getting my body to realize it was actually go time, and because of how hard my Braxton Hicks were, I was basically smooth sailing through them until the meds turned them into an all out I'm ready to give birth level of hell, but wasn't dilating at all. It was rough. Rough yet he was worth every bit of that hell. Sorry for the novella!

@@shivvit2293 at both of the places my mom gave birth (older sibling) they had hot tubs. Which was great since my mom had awful back pain, worked wonders with my sister who was born in march. I was born in August so wasn’t helpful 😂 the last thing my mom wanted to do was get into hot water. Ironically I was born with several back issues that required two surgeries to fix, I used to joke with my mom that it was payback for the back pain I made her deal with 😂

Playing Nintendo could also be a good distraction for contractions for some people … or to kill time between them if they’re in a super long and slow labor? Just like Netflix did for you.

@@ahoeeyou get charged for everything in the hospital room. At least here in the US that’s how it works. Every diaper, pack of wipes, tissue box, onesie, blanket, etc. all of it. If it’s left in the room, they throw it out after you leave for sanitary reasons. For most things, if you ask for extras you won’t be charged, but you can be. It just depends on the hospital

@@dagenpracchia6683 i’m also in the US, so i’m aware of how hospitals usually work here. i’ve just heard alot of people say that hospitals can be more generous when it comes to birth, and often give new mothers a lot of essentials for free.

I can’t say for certain since I didn’t get an “itemized bill”, but I personally didn’t have to pay a cent for anything extra. My insurance (US based) was billed around 16k but I only owe a fraction of that to the hospital because of how my insurance works. I’m a big believer in taking all the stuff you can!

Do it. Birth can be boring af. For some it's just "I can feel that my body is doing stuff but it's not bad" and it's then like 10 minutes of hell and you're suddenly holding a baby 🤷🏻 And then there are extremists like my grandma: Her aunt: dang when is your baby gonna come? You look like you pop any moment Granma: well the doctor said I'll need a few more wee... AAAAAAHHHH... [my aunt casually falling out'n hitting the floor] oh... what about that. Edit, I should mention that this was in the 50s when women were still wearing skirts and dresses a lot. Still sketchy that grandma wasn't wearing undies, or my aunt came flying out at such high speed that she took them down with her 😂
