You need to watch "cant handle this right now". He had to quit for a while due to having panic attacks on stage. This song explains his feelings, leading up to it. i think five years later he puts out a new special, "inside". Its real good. You just have to listen to that other song first.

Growing up listening to country for 40 years this is spot on. The crap on the radio today is not country. It’s teen pop and these guys have never been on a tractor, went hunting, or shot a gun their whole life.

It reminds me of Jason Aldean's song "Try That in a Small Town", dude has never lived in a small town lol. Or his song Country Boy's World which contains the lines: "Rome Georgia Picked peaches off the trees" The problem with that, is that there are no peach trees in Rome Georgia lol.

The great Alan Jackson and George Strait perform a duet - ‘Someone Committed Murder Down on Music Row’ which also laments how modern country music has gone down this same path. Well worth a listen. There is some amazing country music out there, Dolly Parton especially is incredible as are Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, but at some point (from my memory, around 2001) it devolved into basically what Bo is describing in this song. Stadium Country, also called Bro-Country, showed up around 2011 and is basically just pop music with a country sound. Keith Urban is a great example of the genre, a lot of his music sounds exactly like this song.

90s had some amazing rock country mash and into the 2000s-2011 it turned into a more pop country and by the end of 2011 we started to see a weird hip hop infused country then it just became a bad trap country i think most country songs now are just awful cant stand the radio i loved 90s and i loved 05-2011 sound but now it just sounds awful

Blues Traveler - Hook. Made #23 in the top 100 songs of 1995. Whole song makes fun of the music industry and it's fans while most people did not even know it was making fun of them and just loved the song.

A lot of newer country music (from the late 2000's to now) is "bro country", guys singing about hot girls wearing short shorts, drinking on a dirt road, in a truck, and once you've heard that once you really don't need to hear the other 250 songs exactly like it. As I've known for years just because someone wears a cowboy hat that don't make him a cowboy. Country music is about the lyrics and not just the music, so if you can't hear the words of a song because of the music it has stopped being country and is pop music.

Most of the real ones wear ball caps, and just go to work unnoticed. Unfortunately, their pride leads to them dying too soon, poor, and unnoticed, which is the most Country way to go. Country came from Blues, and in the old days, it showed.

Oh, he takes down pop (Repeat Stuff) and your example of rap (its bo yo) in other songs as well. Definitely a few of his earlier songs. Not as early as gems like "My whole family thinks im gay" tho, this was one of the few that he recorded in his bedroom when he was still living with his parents and uploaded it on KZfaq.

There are definitely some formulas that you will find. If I recall, you've already noted some of the cross over formulas from R&B. I find a lot of newer country to be rather Pop-ish. Some is still good, but the older style country is definitely more my wheelhouse. If you want a good song that fits into the formula, yet I think you will really appreciate... Check out "Front Porch Looking In" by Lonestar. It will really pull on your parent heartstrings, though from a dad's perspective.

In most trends I think it starts out pretty genuine but gets more corporate over time. Artists don't make as much money anymore is another factor about the rapper's.

Would love to listen to some Jason Isbell with you and hear your reaction. Amazing songwriter, more Americana than classic country in sound but wonderful songs that take you to vivid places in time and space and can make you smile and weep all at the same time. I'd suggest Alabama Pines, Speed Trap Town, If We Were Vampires, 24 Frames, Dress Blues, etc., etc., etc. Love you reactions. You're a good sport and I appreciate your enthusiasm for new things, your kindness, and you have a wonderful singing voice to from the little bits you've shown us. I don't know if I would put Keith Urban in that category, he is a h*** of an entertainer, and definitely not all country. I took my wife to see him last summer and she doesn't like country at all, and she loved the show. Good luck with that giant rabbit hole!

If you’d like to hear some modern country that isn’t pandering garbage, I’ve prepared a short list of legit artists: Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Whiskey Myers, Colter Wall, The Dead South, Margo Price, The Steel Drivers (Chris Stapleton’s band before he went solo) and Jason Isbell. There’s a lot more out there but this is a nice starter set.

He makes fun of fame and making money off easy plots and writing - repeat stuff about pop music, pandering about country music, even the Kanye rant is just about how you can say whatever and take peoples money to perform by making things catchy and fun even if it lacks substance which is the funny part because all of Bo’s songs have substance underneath the funny phrases.
