weird opening.... hmmm: -WATAMOTE -Elfen Lied -Mob Psycho openings -Gundam ZZ opening (the lyric of the song is literally saying "THIS IS NOT AN ANIME") -Uncle from another world opening (takes visuals and references to SEGA products and contents from the last 30-40 years and integrate it into the context of the opening because the show has alot of SEGA references)

Sakura carcaptor is the kind of show Madoka Magica is making into a dark version. Sailor Moon and Sakura are for most the original magical girls. Let´s keep the nostalgia going, Digimon next!

Sakura and sailor moon are the most iconic. The title of original magical girl would go to himitsu no akko chan or sally the witch, which were created in the 1960s.

@@jamesstutz6907 I mean, they may be some of the bigger ones, especially in the west, but arguably there have been a fair few magical girls before that... They tend to be more like Card Captor Sakura, with a witch-like character, rather than the more Super Sentai style of Sailor Moon, which might have originated in the magical girl genre with Sailor Moon itself, but yeah... I don't know if I'd call them the original, but I would say that they are certainly very important to the genre.

Im a grown man and cardcaptor sakura is one of the greatest anime of all time. Same with sailor moon. Typical shoujou anime like this can really bring out the emotions of the viewer through the characters and the situations they go through. Its a far cry from many modern anime which have to be as out there crazy or edgy and grimdark as possible. There is an entire universe of anime to explore

Cardcaptor Sakura is only good in the sub though. The english dub is shit. It's one of only 2 anime I think that about, the other is Pretear.

CCS is a _classic_ series. Sakura is of the "oops I caused a magical problem, now I've been 'volunteered' to fix it" type of magical girl. She's not, however, a _transforming_ magical girl. _All_ of her outfits are made by her best friend, the black haired girl with the camcorder in the first opening. And there's a _lot_ of outfits. Sakura wore a new outfit almost _every single episode,_ probably much to the horror of the animators. It drops back to a new outfit every few episodes after episode 8 though; and probably to the animators' relief. Tomoyo, the girl that designs and makes them, has one hell of a future in fashion. Well, as long as she has Sakura to model them for her; otherwise she probably wouldn't have the motivation to make them. And as for the "it doesn't look weird"... ~insert side-look to the viewer, then away GIF~ This is a CLAMP series, there is _always_ some weirdness going on. Thank goodness the anime changed a certain "relationship" to a one-sided crush, because the way it is in the manga is cause for a mountain of 'Nononono Hell to the no's. It get's reduced to the size of a tallish hill instead.

It's so funny that there's only 3 acceptable relationships in the manga XD The rest? Student-teacher x4 (one of them 100% pedo, the other gets saved due to reincarnation but barely), between family members x2 (even if both are one-sided), with a dead person XD

The wand is very iconic and up until now you can still see it around as trinkets and accessories. Maybe that's why you somehow get the feeling that you know it from somewhere. Several motifs in the show are so beautifully intricate and so worth to collect.

As someone who has watched around 2000 anime, this is actually my favourite anime ever. It's just so wholesome and feel good, it never fails to bring a smile to my face. I don't know that it would ever win a poll for you to watch, but if it ever did, I would absolutely love it. Just to note however, you did miss one opening, as there are 5 openings, not 4. The fifth one is the most recent one, who's song name is called Rocket Beat.

So the reason the last one looks more modern is because while the original Sakura Card Captor has ended for some time now, they gave a sequel to the story in 2017 called Sakura Card Captor Clear Card, in fact the manga of the sequel is still running and yes this is a show that you will find yourself smiling through in many episodes

Maya Sakamoto is one of the best japan singer 90 - 2000 year. I relly recommend her songs like ending to Hikari no Ou (Thr Fire Hunter), this anime have veeery good op and ed.

One of the classics and one of my favorites. CCS is different from the usual magical girl series. Rather than fighting evil, Sakura's inheriting the creations of her predecessor, the sorcerer Clow Reed. It's one of the most iconic series made by the group CLAMP alongside Holic and Tsubasa. They were HUGE back in the day and created many anime and manga that were connected to such an extent it wasnt unusual to see Sakura, Clow Reed, the witch Yuuko, or their creations appearing in other stories

oooooh!!!!! Cardcaptor Sakura!!!!!! I love Cardcaptor Sakura, god, my childhood... I read the manga though. but I watched some of the anime later on, and I love both versions! so far the one opening that I'm most attached to this season is the OP for Undead Unluck... as soon as I heard it was by Queen Bee, I knew I was gonna be obsessed... and after having watched some episodes, the anime is completely bonkers. I won't say much more, but believe me, it's crazy, and it's giving me vibes like a lot of the stuff I've been obsessed with before. also, idk about anime where the OP is super misleading or hard to glean plot from... I already got Dorohedoro pushed through, and that one's probably the most incomprehensible one I could've championed... just wanted to say thank you again for reacting to that, it means a lot to me because Dorohedoro tends to have more of a small but dedicated following. I'm also putting in a good word for Golden Kamuy endings, if you get around to it at some point!

@@kamuyking551 I figured. I mostly said it to make a joke and kind of out where I've been online. If I remember right, the company tends to do a lot of NTR/Ugly B*stard type of shows, so yeah... They're not the most well-loved of companies, though they definitely do still have their fanbase. Just, you know, not the type of fanbase where anyone admits to being part of it.

This is one of my childhood classic anime, and still to this day will always be in my top 10. Here are a few pieces of info (no spoilers): The original anime is from 1998 and it is based on the manga by CLAMP. Another thing CLAMP did was design the characters for Code Geass (which is something I know you might be watching on Patreon soon). In 2018, the anime continued as Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card based on the manga of the same name. The 3rd opening titled Platinum was performed by Maaya Sakamoto and she returned for Clear Card with the song CLEAR which you also watched in this reaction video. Cool right? :) There is actually a second opening to Clear Card that you missed, it is Rocket Beat by Kiyono Yasuno. They have announced a second season of Clear Card but there still hasn't been a release date given for it.

It's refreshing to see someone react to a shoujo- this one is a generational classic! I grew up watching the Spanish dub (which was remarkably good honestly) and I fell in love with the series even before I knew where anime was from. I even read the manga to completion and it's pretty good, too! I definitely recommend you to watch it, even if you don't wind up reacting to it.

You have finally been introduced to the angelic voice of Mayaa Sakamoto (openings 3 and 4). She's a prominent voice actress and singer, if you liked those songs I recommend a few more: The openings to RahXephon, Last Exile Fam the Silverwing, Vision of Escaflowne, Kobato, Macross F, Amanchu!, Arte, Record of Lodoss War tv, and the endings to Kurogane no Linebarrel, Wolf Rain, Hikari no Ou, Revenger, Inari kon kon, and her single for RahXephon with Steve Conte The garden of Everything .

Card Captor Sakura is one of my all time favorite anime. It never fails to make me feel fluffy inside. It is an anime that I get back every so often if I want to smile and be happy. A recommended watch if you just want to chill and have a smile on your face.

I definitely recommend to watch this anime! You can watch it on twitch, I think people would be happy if you will watch it! It's such a feel-good anime and even the core lesson of the whole anime is "Everything will be all right". And this message feels throughout the series. This anime can heal your soul after all the animes that broke your heart into pieces. Also all the characters are very likable 🥰

I grow up with this wonderful Anime. I remember recording it on VHS and watching it after coming home from school. Every episode you see different unique cards that shows powers that Sakura needs to collect and also protect people from + her as a character is just wholesome, kind and very mature young girl for her age and she tackle serious moments with strenght, kindness and patience. Extra bonus that a boy from different country joins in to also collect the cards, at first he is against her but over time they grow a bond and he falls for her. This show is cute, funny, romantic, supernatural and its fun to see Sakura in different outfits to fight in thanks to her best friend who loves to film her whenever she fights and she also has a guardian namned Kero who helps her how to catch the cards. + How this Anime tackles same sex relationships very natural, is just amazing

Cardcaptor Sakura is one of the most sugar sweet animes ever and I love it. It's part of the big 3 early animes that defined the magic girl genre, the other two being Magic Knights Rayearth and, obviously, Sailor Moon. Cardcaptor Sakura is more about character relationships and the many different forms that love can take. A few of those forms haven't aged well truthfully but thankfully they're secondary plotlines and generally aren't the focus. It's a bit unique in the genre given that there really isn't any bad guys in the series. Certain characters definitely manipulate other characters but it's not from a malicious place. It just makes the whole series very wholesome and remarkably deep at moments.

a little background+explanation to make things clear: Cardcaptor sakura was a 1998-2000 anime based on a manga that ran from 1996 to 2000, the original anime had 70 episodes with 3 opennings. in 2016 CLAMP ,the group of artists that created the original manga created a sequel manga that started running from 2016 and is still running, the sequel is "Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card" and that manga also recieved an anime adaptation that came out 2018 with 22 episodes and 2 opennings so the fourth OP you reacted to was the 1st OP to the Clear Card anime and there still one more. now, in relation to Madoka, I believe you made a mistake by reacting first to Madoka without watching any magical girl anime before since the purpose of Madoka is by using the same tropes and cliches from classic magical girl anime just like Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon etc and flip the genre on it's head so by watching Madoka first you missed a lot of context and the ability to truely appriciate the impact Madoka had on the magical girl anime genre and I hope that by watching a few classical magical girl anime you'll be able to recall back to Madoka and realize all the lost context. you can watch the original Cardcaptor Sakura and classic Sailor moon and that will give you pretty much everything regarding this genre

Cardcaptor Sakura was my childhood man. I vividly remember staying home sick from school watching this and just smiling during it. One of my fave accomplishments is getting one of my newer friends into this series a couple yrs ago. Clear Card is the sequel series that has only recently come out in the past couple years, and yes the series is a more traditional magical girl show (Madoka has in fact traumatized you)

Cardcaptor Sakura was the very first anime that I absolutely fell in love with over 20 years ago. Even after watching close to a thousand anime after that, it still has a very special place and I still love it. The 3rd opening "Platinum" is in my opinion still the BEST anime opening theme in terms of musical composition.

I watched, and enjoyed, this show when it was airing on US TV back in the day. When kids at school found out, I caught no end of shit for watching a 'girly show'. As a 35 year old man...I STILL love this show and look back on it fondly. This show is from the late 90s and early 2000s. Clear Card is a sequel to the original series that came out relatively recently (2018) Edit: If you're getting into Magical Girl shows now, I highly recommend watching the OPs for Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. I guarantee that you'll enjoy them.

So to give context of the impact of this series Card Captor Sakura and Sailor Moon are THE magical girl anime. Card Captor Sakura especially is the standard for what all other magical girl anime after will pull ideas from, including Madoka. But even now it's still a very unique story which is why it's still popular. Other iconic ideas like the transformation sequence gets pulled from Sailor Moon. The artist circle named CLAMP was also responsible for a lot of series that became popular back then, but Card Captor Sakura was by far their most famous work.

CCS is an utter delight and you will be smiling for almost the whole thing, but do expect some tears. But, wholesome bittersweet kinds of tears rather than the traumatic madoka kind.

I can't deny it, Cardcaptor Sakura is my favourite anime of all time. Watched the first part as a kid but once I discovered it on Crunchyroll I binged all of it subbed and dubbed, movies and all. Still waiting for the next season of Clear Card saga.

I dont know if someone already said it, but this is the most famous story made by Clamp, a group of 4 women mangaka. It is one of their most wholesome stories, long with others like Angelic Layer and Wish. But they also have made really dark stories, such as X, RGVeda, and xxxHolic.

i watched ccs for the first time as an adult and you are right. it was a beautiful and innocent anime. some scenes made me cry JUST because they felt so innocent and nostalgic.

If you want to see what Madoka Magica was deconstructing, then you can't really go wrong with Cardcaptor Sakura. It hits most of the tropes and is one of the best magical girl shows out there. Edit: For the record, magical girl shows weren't always about fighting. The genre was basically born out of shows like _I Dream of Jeannie_ and _Bewitched._ Sailor Moon was one of if not the first to merge the magical girl genre with a more Super Sentai, team of superheroes approach, and that kind of stuck for the most part. And I wouldn't say Cardcaptor Sakura is free from combat, exactly, but it definitely walks a line between those classical magical girl shows and the more modern, monster of the week sort of shows. Like I said, one of the best shows to pair with Madoka Magica as a contrast.

Glad to see you reacting to these :) As a few others have pointed out, you missed OP 5 "Rocket Beat". Cardcaptor Sakura is great :) I didn't watch it until 2020 but it's become one of my recent favorites. But quite long compared to a lot of the other anime you've reacted to -- the original series is 70 episodes + 2 movies, and the sequel series "Clear Card" is incomplete but currently at 22 episodes (plus an "episode 0" OVA) with a second season confirmed. One minor disappointment about the creditless versions of the openings, is that the there are actually two versions of OP 1, before and after they introduce Xiaolang/Syaoran, and the creditless version is based on the earlier version which doesn't show him I also quite liked the alternate universe series "Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle", but it's a very different beast, and the anime was never finished. It was the first anime I liked enough (and was sufficiently dissatisfied with the lack of ending) to make me read the manga.

Dude! Of course you saw that wand. Cardcapture Sakura was one of the few anime to make it to public TV in the UK. It was a staple of CITV. So you'd have seen it growing up. Plus they brought out toys and everything to coincide with the airing. Anyway that said you missed one of the openings. The official English opening of the show is different to these ones. Though the shows name was changed to just Cardcaptors. So you'll have to look up Cardcaptors English opening.

CCS has such a good mood to it, that's a disney feeling of "i wanna be there too" if i'd say... For openings looking nothing alike it's anime : Lilium from Elfen Lied would be one of my best bet... For opening looking like their anime (aka confusion) : Ai from Excel Saga xD For anime with multiple opening that i'd highly recommend : MÄR Same with magical girls : Nanoha, Nanoha A's, Nanoha Strikers, Nanoha Vivid, Nanoha Vivid Strike Thank you so muchfor all of your reactions

The first three ops are from the OG show from the late 90s and last op is from a sequel series called Clear Card. It came out not too long ago in 2018. A second season was also announced.

Oh man, this is one of those late 90s early 2000s shows that a lot of people grew up with, and one of those anime where the American OP is VEEERRYYY different from the original. You should ABSOLUTLY watch it just to get a good laugh at just how different it is, and I think going forward you should do the same for shows like Shaman King and Digimon.

Card Captor Sakura is one of the 2 pillars of the Magical girl genre (the other one is Sailor Moon), for example Madoka takes various elements of this series and give them a turn, it's a great feel good anime with great messages for the little and the big ones of the family.

Also, probably not quite the thing if you're more in the mood for mellow, but at some point *The Vision of Escaflowne* should go on your list. Classic shojo meets isekai. With a bodycount, so not exactly mellow. I laugh at it a little bit (their evil fortresses look like giant flying teeth!), but I love it too. Also Yoko Kanno does the OST and it is top fucking notch.

If you're really curious about anime with really weird OP (and EDs) I suggest reacting to the "Asobi Abase", "Sarazanmai", and "Inuyashiki" openings and endings, All of these are also really good shows too(despite the weirdness) !

My childhood anime! I remember I didn't go out to play on Saturday mornings because I was afraid I'd miss it lol. Lots of plot twists in the show (as expected from Clamp) and beautiful art! It's an anime that when you grow up and watch it again you will find many exciting things in the plot. 🤭🤭 I love it! ps. The 2nd opening is my all time favorite, still in my playlist until today!

I am a guy and I watched Cardaptor Sakura when I was 32 years old, and it's one of my favorite animes of all! It was my second magical girl anime after Madoka! This one is definitely classical magical girl stuff :)

It was a part of my childhood I remember with so much love. I remember myself at 7 yo watching this show after the school. It is a nice magical girl show. I still love Sakura so much. My favs songs from this anime are op 1 "Catch you, catch me" bc it's iconic, Ed 1 "Groovy" bc it has a nice vibe ( I have to say I watched with the latin dub so I listened the Spanish versions of these songs) and my top fav "Clear" from the Clear Card saga bc the music is nice and I loved even more when I found the spanish lyrics... beautiful Ah, Nostalgia🤧 Thanks you for this reaction, Luke. Clear Card is a sequel that came out roughly 20 yrs after the original series. There is also an English opening version, but many fans would say to avoid it but it gives a look into what its about more than the JP OPs.

I'm 32 years old, but Cardcaptor Sakura holds a place in my childhood heart right next to Sailor Moon and the first seasons of Pokemon. Used to watch all 3 early in the mornings before going to elementary school back in the mid-late '90s. CS is also one of, if not THE, OG magical girl animes, and was a major trope-setter. The gist of the story (no spoilers ahead, I promise) is a girl who finds a book called The Clow. Inside of the book is hollowed out, and lies a deck of cards reminiscent of Tarot cards. Each card holds a spirit, and when she opens the book, all but one, a card called The Windy (one of 4 elemental spirits present in the deck) are freed into the world. She must then go out and fight the spirits and re-seal them into their card forms. In their card forms, she is able to use and summon them to utilize their powers and abilities in future confrontations. It's story is also just one part of a mini-anime-expanded universe that includes other works such as Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and XXXHolic. (That last one sounds dirty from the title, but I swear it's not. It's a supernatural/slice of life/horror-ish/comedy/mystery).

This was one of a handful of anime series I used as a 'gateway show' to bring other friends into the anime community. It was wholesome and well animated, a perfect template for the typical 'Magical Girl' genre. It made a great 'catch your breath' show between watchings of 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' and 'Now and Then, Here and There' and other dark shows of the time.

Cardcaptor Sakura and Tsubasa Chronicles are shows I remember watching back in Elementary school. Very nostalgic and the world-building was very interesting to me. Another show that I had watched from that time I would recommend checking out the OP and ED for is "Kiddy Grade" (younger me didn't understand the GL themes in the show but the story, battles, world-building and OST were a blast; very underrated show imo)

Fun ops u might like would be Ojamajo doremi Openings 1 (Ojamajo Carnival), 2 (Ojamajo wa Koko ni Iru), and 3(Ojamajo de BAN²)! There a few more but those r the best coming from a long time fan, it’s a pretty obscure and niche magical girl anime it’s fun and cute

I would LOVE to see you react to Cardcaptor Sakura. You are 100% right about it being a feel-good story. She does fight things but it's not really fighting against an antagonist. More like she's solving magical problems. This is the show that I put on when my roommate (26M) has a really shitty day at work and just wants to check out mentally for the evening. I've seen the whole show, but he hasn't and he loves it so far.

I Think it had been released on VHS at some point with Clear cards being a sequel to the original. She gets some cards, they are magic, the cards escape and she has to go recapture them.

The last is a from a sequel that came out in 2018, it was announced to have a season 2 but there's no release date yet. I really enjoyed it and I think you'd do too, though even if there's part of the community that would really like you to watch it I think that since it's a minority it would be really hard, though not completely impossible, that it could win a tournament unless starting to do genre based ones or every now and then one with only older anime

I can't believe that wholesome anime was chosen for opening reaction. I did watch Cardcaptor Sakura between 2010-2012 and i can't remember a lot from it. But its nice show. This reminded me of AMV Hell 3. All my first anime memories are tied to it. Many clips from Dragon Ball, Cardcaptor Sakura and Evangelion. Unfortunately AMV Hell is blocked, i believe. EDIT: Scratch that, i just typed AMV Hell 3 in search bar and it is up. Somebody else reuploaded it.

i'd be down to watch your reaction to cardcaptor, it's the kind of straightforward magical girl show that madoka magica was subverting(is that the right term? eh, who cares) for the most part it's a 'monster of the week' style format following sakura's growth as a magical girl as she goes about collecting the clow cards and lives her life.

About the thing on guessing what the anime could be about based on the opening i have a list: Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu, Haiyore! Nyaruko-san, Higashi no Eden(this one will be the most interesting), Kokoro Connect Edit: Mawaru Penguindrum(this one too), maybe monster, Rikei ga Koi ni Ochita no(a bit easy i think but a nice first try), Shinsekai yori(it's more the ending but you would never be able to guess), Takt Op. Destiny, Texhnolyze, Zankyou no Terror and Zetsuen no Tempest(idk if it could be a good one)

Oh my, what a blast from the past ! It's been ages since I watched or read Sakura ! If you want a classic, that's it ! It warm my heart, I think I'm gonna get in touch with it again ! Basically, Sakura open a book and a lots of cards escape. It's now her job to get them back. Happened when she's in elementary school. Clear Card is a sequel when she's in middle school, when she has to make those cards her own for good. Also, you should check more of Clamp work. It's a group of female mangakas who did great things. Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is kind of a cross over with all characters from their works coming together in a very particulat setting. Would be nice to check how Sakura looks in another universe :p And the openings are amazing, especially synchronicty.

Death Parade Opening is a total 360 from what the actual anime is about my niece when she was a few months old i would play Opening 4 of Card Captor Sakura for her along with other anime openins plus some miku songs shes 6 now and to this day she still tries and sing along to CCS Op. 4

The first three openings are from the old scc (stands for sakura card captor) anime, the 90's 20's one, the fourth is from the most recent scc (stands for sakura clear card) arc.

Tsubasa Chronicles soundtrack is also good. Yuki Kajiura is the artist for the Tsubasa Chronicles music. It's the same artist as Madoka Magica. Some of the songs are sung by Maaya Sakamoto, who is the singer of the Cardcaptor Sakura openings. Just by hearing some of the OST. I think you would be able to tell it's the same artist. A song of storm and fire by Yuki Kajiura is the main theme song of the anime. Ship of Fools and Synchronicity is great too. The openings/endings have the main characters of this series, in an alternate universe/version of themselves

The most confusing anime openings I know are the monogatari franchise openings (especially the "cute" ones), pop team epic openings, but more than those : Magical Destroyers opening... this THING is weird, absurd, completely surreal, and more impressive : filled with spoilers that don't make any sense until you finished the ENTIRE show. Maybe I can also count the opening for excel saga... yeah, why not...

First Off … 😭 I started watching Cardcaptors on VHS 📼 collected them. …but I’m glad you liked. It’s kind of a Pokémon of Magical Girl shows, pushing the trope into stardom in its own right. Crazy wholesome, but still a bit weird to westerner eyes. My definition of Adorable 🥰.

cardcaptor sakura is credited as one of the quintessential magical girl series. a lot of tropes in it inspire newer magical girl animes, just as sailor moon, utena, and many other older anime did. i'm pretty sure ccs manga was first penned in the 90s? and yes, it's a cute anime! the premise is sakura, who found a magic book, opened it and released a bunch of magic cards with personalities and various magical abilities, and to stop them from making a mess out of her town she has to recapture all of them. there's a lot of emphasis on her relationship with the people around her. clear card arc, though, is a new sequel manga and anime released in late 2010s/early 2020s. like, legit they waited like 20 years to release the sequel manga. in it, she has to capture a new set of cards that she unknowingly creates with her magic. it borrows a lot of ideas from alice in wonderland, which you can see more from ccs clear card's second op. both anime has fight scenes, but the creators have a heavy emphasis on sakura's kindness and empathy, and sometimes she can avoid fighting the cards fully by befriending them. also, ccs is one of the only anime that have calmer openings and much more upbeat endings. for example, the ed song called fruits candy is legit a bop with great beats that you can dance to. though all in all ccs never misses with their ops and eds, both in the original ccs and in clear card arc.

CLAMP's works are undoubtedly one of the best if we talk about the shoujo genre, they have a very deep development and many of their outcomes have some incredible dramatic touches. CCS, Kobato, Angelic Layers, Magic Knight, Chobits, Tsubasa Chronicles, XXXHOLiC, etc. There are many of their great masterpieces, and the most incredible thing is that many of them are connected to each other since CLAMP created a very complex universe based on these stories, particularly my favorites are Tsubasa Chronicles and XXXHOLiC, both stories told in parallel.

There's a 5th opening (second opening for Clear Card arc) as well, am a little surprised it wasn't in the OP compilation you got. Related, you should totally react to Shoujo Kakumei (Revolutionary Girl) Utena's OP and ED songs (one OP, 2 EDs). If you want magical girl subversion, SKU is a pretty good one.
