A troubadour is basically a traveling singer/musician. All of those behind King George on stage are all pretty much country music stars in their own right. As you said, this demonstrates how much George Strait is respected.

George Strait is my generation's Merle Haggard. If you don't know who Merle is, go dive into his song catalog. This song is contemplative, just looking back at being a traveling singer, songwriter. He is absolutely one of the best in Country music. Dive deeper into his music. You won't be sorry.

George came on the scene when country had gone poppy. He brought neo traditional country back. Hence the King.

"Respected" is the perfect word for him. And it's not just the caliber of his music. It's about how steadily true he has been to his own simple country style throughout all the changes in the industry. It's also about how he comports himself on and off stage: no scandal, no disorderly conduct, no drinking or marital problems - he leaves the tour, goes home, and hangs out on the ranch. I work at his alma mater where he first formed his band, and they love him so much there (his degree was actually in agriculture because his background is in that world). I take my class on fieldtrips to an off campus site he helped set up through an endowment for agricultural and wildlife/natural studies. The school gave him an honorary doctorate; rumor is he humbly tried to turn it down, but they insisted and said he was getting it whether he showed up for the ceremony or not.

This was the closing number for a tribute show where George was awarded ACM Artist of the Decade (this was in 2009 I believe) - all those behind him had performed during the show. Lee Ann Womack sang a song she wrote for this show - "Just Stand There And Sing" perfectly describing how in a time when other artists were adding all kinds of flash and flare to their stage shows, George continued to "just stand there and sing" his songs (to sell out crowds no less). Yeah, there's a reason he's the King.

King George. 60 number one hits, the most of any artist in music history. He has a song for every stage of life. The way he can convey a story is unmatched in my opinion.

Conway Twitty had the most number 1 hits in country music, until he past away. Then George took the number one spot for the most number 1 hits in country music.
