The lyrics of Coraline are poetry! Congratulations! It's not so simple to catch the meaning of the song at the first listen. Lyrics are very important for this band and in general Italians song are deeply meaningful. This song is dedicated to Damiano's ex fiancée. The lead singer is also the writer of the lyrics of all their songs. Thank you, I enjoyed this reaction.

the verse "sarò vessilo, scudo o la tua spada di argento" (I'll be your banner, shield or your silver sword) had a really deep meaning, Iwill support you!!, I will proctect you, I will defend you. The other verse "una tua singola lacrima è oceano sopra il mio viso" One single tear of yours will be an ocean on my face " every suffering she had for him is really big, meaning he cares a lot for her. It is increadible how a really young guy as him were capable to write that kind of deep and meaningfull poetry .

Coraline was written by Damiano inspired by the story of his girlfriend (now ex) who had psychological problems due to non-recognition of a disease (Vulvodynia del pudendo) that lasted 8 years. In Italy it is used by some psychologists to get some boys who have various problems to open up as a positive "example" so that they can open up feeling less alone. There are different aspects of them but since I think you want to delve into their "Ballads"" I recommend "The Loneliest" "Parole Lontane" official video and "Vent'Anni" in addition to "Torna a Casa" both of which you should see the official video first and then the one with the translation. There are also "Time Zone" "Trastevere" "If Not For You" "The Gift of Life" "The Driver" which are on their latest album "Rush."

Nice reaction! This song requires at least twice through to get a sense of the flow and the meaning, especially if you don’t know Italian. It is in my opinion a masterpiece, and this performance is the best I have ever seen. Certainly one of the best Rock ballads ever, and I’m an old Rock fan. Made me cry the first few times I heard it. Damiano has stated that Coraline is a real person that he could not help, although he tried. The themes are mental health, child abuse, and suicidal thinking. He also has said that he writes in metaphors so that people can derive their own feelings and emotions.

Thx. It's about self destruction written by 20 year old kids. And this concert was one year after their surprise win at Sanremo. They won Eurovision and won the World, so coming back to base was what makes this so special, and the added orchestra. Peace.

I'm so glad you liked this, I love all of Måneskin's songs, but this is my second fave in their catalogue. (esp. this performance since it has the Sanremo orchestra added to it, which is just great) My fave song of the band is La Paura del buio (best to look for a version with English translation for that one as well, Look for the Italia live performance) The lyrics for that one are also great, and the ending of the song takes my breath away every time I listen to it. There's also Torna a Casa (which has a simply beautiful music video), and which the singer, Damiano, wrote the lyrics of, when he was only 16 years old, and they recorded it when he was 19. (he's 24 now, and he's the oldest member of the band, just to give you an idea of how young these kids still are)) The really fun bit is that aside of great balads, they also do great fun energetic songs, that really make you want to dance. Of the recent new ones, I really like 'off my face' (it for some reason is divisive in fandom, but I loved it from the first time I heard it) Or you could listen to the song that won them Eurovision, Zitti e Buoni. It's just fire...

Many people think the last verse "they told her in the city there's a castle with walls so high nothing will ever hit you again" is a metaphor for a well known cemetery in Rome (where they're all from) and it alludes to Coraline committing suicide because of the abuse she suffered from her father. Which explains the desperation and intensity in which Damiano sings his love for her, like he wanted to be her shield and her silver sword, the meaning of good, and yet all his love wasn't enough to save her. It's a very sad song but so beautiful. After singing it at Sanremo Damiano actually started crying on stage and couldn't stop. It was a very emotional moment for the band because they won Sanremo (Italy's biggest music competition) the year before against all odds, since Sanremo is more traditional usually and no one thought a rock band would win, and by winning Sanremo they got to represent Italy at Eurovision 2021 and they won it, which was what made them explode in all of Europe and then all over the world as well, so basically it changed their life. And this was Sanremo 2022, exactly a year later where they came back as guests and it was Damiano who chose to sing Coraline in this big occasion. Anyway you should check out their live of "Zitti e Buoni" at Eurovision, that's the song they won with.

Excellent points. FYI For the reactor... Sanremo is a song competition, but not like American Idol or The Voice. It is an almost 60 year tradition in Italy and the contestants are almost all already pretty famous artists in Italy. The contest is for the best song (and performance somewhat) and then the winner goes on to represent Italy for Eurovision even though Sanremo predates Eurovision which copied Sanremo. A lot of the songs debuted at Sanremo then become the songs you hear everywhere for the rest of the year.

I love watching people discover Coraline for the first time! Damiano cried after the performance he couldn't stop: his fiancée Giorgia was in the room, she inspired him to sing the song. They had an affair for 7 years and broke up a few months ago. she suffers from invisible illnesses that were not recognized and took many years to be diagnosed..now she fights for these diseases to be recognized as disabling and is a feminist activist. Damiano accompanied her a lot, and she also in return went to see him in concert. personally the song resonated for me because I was agoraphobic with panic attacks for six years . I discovered the song when i was still into it and i cried sooo much listening to that song and know i'm ok. he built the song like a tale so that everyone can relate to it, the ending is reminiscent of incest... in Latin America women shout the words while crying, it still resonates for other reasons..i subsribed not knowing what you like or you type of content but you have so many beauties to discover! and they are also a lot of fun (and really sassy and sexy ah ah ) thank you for that amazing reaction and thank you daniel or daniele too!

I think that with the verse "she lost the fruit of her womb, she didn't know love, but a father who doesn't look like a father at all" Damiano wanted to refer to sexual abuse by her father that Coraline suffered.

@Jasmine-in-my-mind 9 ай бұрын
Hi, just a friendly language correction. I think you meant to say "abuse by *her* father" (Coraline's father). Otherwise it sounds like you are referring to Damiano's family which I am sure was not your intention.

I always give a trigger warning for this song as it deals with bullying, parental/sexual abuse, eating disorders, depression, low self esteem and suicidal thoughts. Almost every listen to his begging her for even just a moment of time or a smile brings tears to my eyes and watching Damiano almost break down singing it tears at my heart.

Um ,he is not smitten , he cares for a girl suffering and wants to help her with nothing in return. It's a true story of a friend of his , a girl he really knew , she was abused by her father made pregnant by him and she couldn't take it any more so then she took her own life. The castle he mentions in the end is actually the cemetery sh e is buried in and finally finds peace! This guy's is a freaking poet! Beautiful, masterpiece rock ballad !

here in ITaly when this wis song came out, Damiano saids is like a fairy tale with a bad ending, he said was a tale about a friend (in high school) and the band will never do a video about this song, the enda talk a bout she lost her child but didn't knew love (she was abused) and the father was not a good person (maybe was the abuser) and the reference to the castle in the city, Is to a cementery on ROme who had a building inside like a castle (she took away her life). Then her fiance after this performance said that song was about her, but I think has no sense what she said.

If you care about lyrics and about finding out messages, you are gonna have so much fun with them. They always are somewhat cryptic and want you to THINK. Even most of their funny songs, or videos, or promos, have hidden messages you can find only if you dig a bit, or if you know them and their lore. I have always thought of them as a band of nerds, for nerds, disguised as really cool ppl lol Enjoy the ride!
