Singer = Rod Stewart. Primary Guitarist = Ron Wood. Ron and Rod were together in the Jeff Beck Group, and then The Faces. Ron went on to join the Stones in 1975. Stewart's 1971 "Every Picture Tells a Story has Wood as a guitarist as well. The Album is phenomenal. These two are legit legends. Stewart is, ironically, playing a Banjo for this song. Mandolin has eight strings.

Rod Stewart on Banjo, Ron Wood with guitar. The mandolin comes in near the end; looks like a little guitar with 8 strings. When Rod references his steel guitar, you hear a little riff from it, but you don't see it. This is my favorite Rod Stewart song. There is a more commonly heard version which was released, where there is a long mandolin solo near the end: heavenly sound! I think Rod has a new fan!

Rod Stewart is a huge music star from the 70's. In 1971 when this song was released, Maggie May became his first number one hit. So many hits from Rod to come. Some of his original videos were great including his song Hot Legs.

Great song! Rod Stewart is a British rock & pop singer, songwriter with a distinctive raspy singing voice. His music career started in the 60's. Rod Stewart was in quite a few groups before going solo. He was in "The Dimensions", "Jeff Beck Group" & "Faces". He had a lot of great hits such as "Reason To Believe", "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "You Wear It Well", "Sailing", "Tonight's The Night", "You're In My Heart", "Rhythm of My Heart", "I Was Only Joking", "Some Guys Have All The Luck" & many more.

A mandolin is a small acoustic instrument. Uses 8 strings tuned the same as a violin. Often used in Bluegrass music. Ironically, two of the most famous song with Mandolin in the title doesn't actually feature the instrument itself. Mandolin Rain by Bruce Hornsby is the other. A song you will love.

Rod Stewart was huge for a long time. "Maggie May", "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", "Tonight's the Night", "Downtown Train", "Young Turks". He's sold 46 million albums. Ron Wood is in the Rolling Stones, as well as the Jeff Beck Group. Banjo (which Rod Stewart plays here) and mandolin (not actually played in this song) are standards in bluegrass, sometimes used in more traditional country music as well. For some good mandolin playing, check out Ricky Scaggs, who has played since he was a very young boy.

Rod Stewart is one of the biggest rock stars ever with a career covering 50 years. Started with a rock group and then to a solo career covering rock, gospel (People Get Ready) and even classics like Blue Moon. Maggie May was his first big hit. I Was Only Joking probably his most personal and Forever Young was his most touching song in my opinion. You could react to a song of his every day and probably not finish until sometime next year.

The Faces were a stellar group of pub rockers before the genre actually existed. The Faces had Steve Marriott who left and opened up the space for Rod and Ron to join, of the disbanded Jeff Beck Group. All these names Jeff, Rod, Ron and Steve all deserve your attention. All are contemporaries of the Beatles who might have heard of. A very seminal period of Rock (exploratory with many sub groups) music growing out of Rock N' Roll (originally a dance music).

Rod Stewart is the singer with the Banjo, Ronnie Wood is the gentleman next to him with the steel string acoustic guitar. There is also a Dobro Steel slide guitar and a mandolin and an acoustic bass guitar that came in as well as the drums. Ronnie was Rod's main guitarist back in the early days of their collaborations in the band Faces and briefly after the group disbanded. Ronnie went ahead in '75 to join The Rolling Stones, and is still with them. Rod Stewart is a rock icon and has a HUGE library of music and hits.

Must hears - Maggie Mae, Forever Young, You Wear It Well, The Motown Song, Young Turks, Downtown Train, This Old Heart of Mine, Every Picture Tells A Story, (Find A) Reason to Believe, Handbags and Glad Rags. WHAT TO AVOID - Hot Legs, Do You Think I'm Sexy, and anything else from that era.

The light haired guy is Rod Stewart and he is playing a banjo. If I understand correctly the mandolin looks a lot like a guitar but is just a little bit bigger than a ukulele. I think a good example of a song with a mandolin is The Galway Gal by Fiddlers Green. As you look at Rod Stewart’s music catalog you will find that he is a charter member in the Rock and Roll PDC. His little laugh and devil may care grin knocks them out every time.

Rod Stewart - arguably one of the most revered vocalists in the last 50 years, both solo and with the Faces. His album 'Every Picture tells a story has NO duff tracks and numerous classice - it also split between a 'fast side' and 'slow side' on viny;, because you'd be hard pushed to decide which one he does better. He played a banjo in this (vocals - you were right 'Rod!') Ron Wood played a bottleneck guitar, and another guy played the steel guitar, and yet another a mandolin which is th instrument that really captivated you with that descending piccato bit just before it picked up pace. Rod was a hellraiser in his time and still performs, though, in all honesty, nostalgia rather than quality keeps him going (imo). Great reaction and YES! an absolutely beautiful trrack.... from 'Every Picture'! :)

Hi Britt , you finally found Rod Stewart . He has been around since the mid 60s with his raspy voice . He is from Scotland in the UK . Yes he is SCOTTISH . . He has some big hits under his belt . Ronnie Wood later joined the Rolling Stones . He really came into his own in the 70s after being in a few bands . Try reacting to Maggie May that was a big hit for him and his band early 70s . He just went from strenth to strenth and is still around today . Thanks Britt Rod is a superstar good to see you bring him to your channel John

Sorry Boss ... Not Scottish ! .... Roderick David Stewart was born at 507 Archway Road, Highgate, North London, UK. on 10 January 1945, the youngest of five children of Robert Joseph Stewart (26 December 1904[12]-1990)[13] and Elsie Rebecca Gilbart (14 December 1905[12]-1996).[14][15] His father was Scottish and had been a master builder in Leith, Edinburgh, while Elsie was English and had grown up in Upper Holloway in North London. Married in 1928, the couple had two sons and two daughters while living in Scotland, and then they moved to Highgate. Stewart was born at home during World War II ... a good North London Lad !

I would so strongly recommend People Get Ready with Rod Stewart and (the late, great) Jeff Beck. You’ll love the music and the story in the lyrics. Love your pure reactions. You are a joy.

Rod Stewart gold standard artist, must hear Handbags and Gladrags, Maggie May, Country Comforts, Gasoline Alley, Blind Prayer, more, Ron Wood is in the Stones. Banjo came from Africa, you should know that.

Rod is playing a banjo and singing. Other instruments are standard guitar (Ron) steel guitar, mandolin, electric bass, an electric organ, and drums. The mandolin has the higher notes and very fast strumming as seen from a low camera angle.

Ron Wood was the guitar player in Rod's long time band, the Faces. Ron is now one of the two guitar players in the Rolling Stones, you know them? They are somewhat famous. Rod is known for his vocal style and also plays the mandolin which is related to the banjo. Rod has sold more than 250 million records and has been knighted and has given some of the most wonderful concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. Rod was living in Beverly Hills, but also has a gorgeous castle in his native home of Scotland. I hope you enjoy them.

Oh, and by the way, the really high-pitched pretty instrument you’re hearing is a mandolin but it’s being played by a different performer on stage who is sitting behind Rod. Rod is playing a banjo but that’s not the predominant instrument you’re hearing.

Rod is known for having a whiskey tenor voice. I’ve been a fan of Rods since the early 80’s. I’ve seen him live more than a 100 times. I followed him around the plant. When I’m feeling down I listen to him. He is my drug. Listen to some of his music, you’ll be a fan, too He’s still doing live shows. And he also has a residency in Vegas. 😊
