Yes, this was recorded when Freddie's strength was fading. He grew his beard to hide his Karposi's Sarcoma (which is an AIDS-related cancer that can form masses in the skin, in lymph nodes). The idea for the song came from Freddie and bassist John Deacon, who wrote the basic chord structure for the song. All four contributed to the lyrics and musical ideas, and the song was still credited to the entire band, something they had agreed to do during the album recording, regardless of who had been the actual writer. The music video for the song features four young boys performing as Queen on stage: Paul Howard as Brian May, James Currie as John Deacon, Adam Gladdish as Roger Taylor, and a then-unknown Ross McCall as Freddie Mercury. Ross McCall grew up to be a Scottish actor best known for his roles as T-5 Joseph Liebgott in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers (2001) and Matthew Keller in the hit series White Collar. Throughout the video, McCall appears as four different incarnations of Mercury: 1977 Freddie (long hair with a one-piece black and white Harlequin spandex leotard), 1978-1979 Freddie (leather pants and leather jacket, and although he is portrayed with a mustache in the video, Freddie never wore his full black leather outfit with his mustache), Live Aid 1985 Freddie (white tank top, Adidas shoes, jeans), and 1986 Freddie (Iconic yellow jacket with track pants). Queen themselves appear only near the end of the video. It was filmed in London, at Elstree Studios in November 1989. According to Roger, Freddie joked about sending the boys out on tour instead of them because of how well they did in the video.

Yes, you're right, Freddie's health was already declining at this point, but his optimism was not, as you can see in this beautiful song he wrote. Love your reactions to Queen. This video just makes you smile, the kids took their roles seriously and really captured the essence of each of them. Even though Freddie was really sick by the time it was recorded it's still a message of hope.

This was really the beginning of music videos having to use more and more tricks to hide Freddie’s illness. It would get wild by the time the Innuendo video dropped, one of my favourites. Eventually, they just put a lot of makeup on him, gave him a lot of meds and booze and let the camera roll (I’m Going Slightly Mad and Those Were The Days of Our Lives come to mind). He grew a beard to cover the lesions on his face from AIDS. Freddie went through a period in the early 80s where he went to New York and became quite the party animal and it caught up with him. It’s sad that his rock n roll lifestyle wasn’t much different from anyone else’s at that time, including Elton John’s, but he got the bug and in the 80s, nobody knew anything about it.

There is what feels like an awkward transition after the guys come out that always throws me off in this video. But it’s still one of my favorites. Freddie knew about his death sentence and grew the beard to hide the lesions, but still continued to sing songs of love and hope for a better future. Such an amazing person 💛 and the kids!!!! They were all so incredible… I had to smile and thought “just wait, they’re coming!” when you made the comment about whether the kids had watched another video of the guys 😂😊

Loved your reaction. I knew you would absolutely loved it. You have in general a great sensibility ....mirrored mine when I first saw it 2 years ago...yes Freddie was pretty sick here and sported the beard to hide his cancerous sores. The main Freddie became an actor later in life. React to a video of children auditioning for this video. In the video IWANT IT ALL Freddie tries to be his dynamic self but part of his foot has been removed and he can barely walk but moves the rest of his body and is not noticeable and he is covered from head to foot to hide his cancerous lesions all over his body. and layers to hide his emaciated body..he gives his all right to the end of his life...for his voice react to MADE IN HEAVEN, so beautiful

I love the reactions you do. It would be great if you could also do “These are the days of our lives” by Queen. It was their last video shot with Freddie. The other good choice would be “Mother Love” (just the lyric video is going to be perfect). They didn't tour for The Miracle album. They just did a lot of videos for it. Yes, Freddie's health was starting on the decline with this album. Funny quip by Freddie after they made this video with the kids where he said something to the affect of "maybe they can go out on tour for us".

Yeah this is where Freddie had to stop touring because of his AIDS/HIV illness and hence why he shaved off his moustache because of the irritation. As the videos came from here to the last one you can actually see him slowly become more sick looking. If you do These Are the Days of Our Lives (his last video) it is quite shocking how thin and gaunt he looks and there is a Making Of video also for that video which I suggest you watch also. After that one the next poignant song video is No One But You (Only the Good Die Young) which is significant as there is no Freddie, just his piano, has it was made after Freddie's death. The song Mother Love is another significant song as it was Freddie's last song he recorded and is notable as the last verse is sung by Brian as Freddie said that he didn't feel up to doing the final verse but would come back and record it. He never went back to finish it. Even in that final song though for how ill Freddie was then, he still sung it with as strong a voice as ever. A previous reaction you asked has Freddie Mercury ever been a dancer as he glides effortlessly across the stage in his live performances, the answer is Freddie in 1979 has a few ballet lessons with the world famous Royal Ballet Company in London in 1979 for a special performance for charity, all the ballet experts were impressed and surprised at Freddie’s performance and loved him,the gala performance in October 7 1979 Freddie sang Bohemian Rhapsody and Crazy Little Thing Called Love,complete with costume changes from Black sequined catsuit to a silver glittery one,next to the highly trained ballet dancers Freddie held his own, anyway love the Miracle video, Queen always had amazing videos and spent thousands of pounds on their video production, Great reaction thanks 🙏

Not one of the top tier Queen songs but it's a cute video. Yes, Freddie was ill at this point so they came up with several ways (in other videos of the time, as well) to avoid him having to participate in filming a full length (or any) video. The kids really did do a fantastic job. Some other suggestions from better times...Under Pressure (Wembley), I Want to Break Free (official video), You Take My Breath Away (live from Hyde Park...a stunning vocal), Don't Stop Me Now (official), Save Me (live from Montreal). Another One Bites the Dust (live from Montreal). That'll keep you busy for a while :)

❤ Queen fans are die hard, but you have to remember they were never trendy at the time. Queen 100% stole the show at Live Aid, the tickets sold out before they were announced as part of the line up - note the sound check they do of all instruments, rock anthems tweaked to fit the strict 20 minutes slot. For out-there videos check out It'sA Hard Life and I Want to Break Free (a loving homage of an English soap TV series called Coronation Street - USA did not get it - in the UK we do something called Panto where prince charming/ aladdin are played by women and the evil step mum is a man in drag....)
