I am a 77 year old grandmother and when the Righteous Brothers were first heard on the radio, we all thought with that sweet sound, that they were black gentlemen. When they started being seen on television and in concert and we saw them, we were astounded that they were white gentlemen! At some point their style became known as "blue eyed soul". We all got a huge surprise. You reactions are excellent, food for thought. I am proud to become a new subscriber. Best of luck building your channel. Well done, young man. Best wishes to you and your loved ones, from the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York State.

The Righteous Brothers were known as Blue-Eyed Soul. This song was written in 1955 for the prison movie "Unchained". It was used again in the movie "Ghost". Many artists have sung this song. NOBODY sang it like Bobby Hatfield. RIP Bobby. We had the greatest music back then. The singers could actually sing. They dressed well. Any TV appearances were live. You had one shot to get it right.. His mom was in the audiences and he had a cold. Talk about pressure.

To describe The Righteous Brothers a DJ called their music "Blue Eyed Soul" as many people thought they were black. In 1991 the recorded version became a hit again in the movie "Ghost". So 25 yrs later, They rerecorded it again. Also listen to the videos of both Bill Medley & Bobby Hatfield singing "Soul and Inspiration" and "You'll Never Walk Alone". They were Regulars for 2 yrs on the TV show Shindig and among many songs like their 1st hit "Little Latin Lupe Luu", you'll hear Bobby sing "Summertime", Bill sings "Georgia On My Mind". You will love but won't believe how bluesy the record of "I Wanna Make Love To You" is with Bill singing lead. Record ballads by Bobby called "Ebb Tide" and "Stay With Me Baby" are packed with emotions and the incredible voice of Bobby. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

Bobby Hatfield was 25 years old when he recorded this in 1965. The song however comes from prison movie from 1955 called "Unchained". That's why "time goes by so slowly", as he is wondering if his girl will be waiting for him when he gets out. Many artists have covered this song but I think Bobby's version is the best! Thanks!

i'm glad you noticed Bobby's soulful delivery. We had more soul than you know in the fifties and sixties from the Platters, Ray Charles to the Temptations and those in between like the Righteous Brothers. Bobby had a lot of soul to deliver and it shows in many of his performances. Check out 'Bring it on Home' as an example. RIP Bobby Hartfield you are truly missed.

This was before auto-tune and all the other hype they add to the music. No added crap in the background. Just pure music. There was an orchestra in the background doing the music with normal instruments. He had amazing control over his voice and there was no strain to reach those notes. They were amazing. You should listen to more of their songs. They had so many hits and they were all amazing. Soul and Inspiration, You've Lost That Loving Feeling, and so many others that were hits. They both did solos and I don't think they knew just how to NOT have a hit song. Listen to some of their songs and you will hear what made them so great. and loved.

This is one of the most covered songs in history. Lots of artists have done versions of it. To me and many people Bobby Hatfield's version is the absolute best. Back then you saw live concerts, live tv performances, radio and records. It was more focused on the talent and performance abilities before autotune became a thing in 1996. It was in the movie Ghost.

This song was written and composed in "1955" "N-O-T" 1965. The performance that you just saw was by Mr. Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers on The Andy Williams("WHITE) man's Show. Anyway a Mr. Hy Zaret, a "WHITE" man" who wrote it with the help of his friend the lyrist, Mr. Alex North who was also a "WHITE" man. It was for a prison movie in 1955 called "Unchained". And it was originally sung by the First African American Opera Singer, a "Mr. Todd Duncan who was indeed a "B-L-AC-k" man.Throughout time the song, "Unchained Melody" has had about 1500 or so recordings and was performed by a little over 670 artists in multiple languages. Yes and including with these artists were a "WHITE" lady named Linda Ronstadt and also a "WHITE" guy named Elvis Presley. "Unchained Melody" was the most played song in all of America and though out the UK in the Twentieth Century. "Unchained Melody" was sung in other movies as well but it was not until "1990" when they came out in a movie called "Ghost" starring a "WHITE" Patrick Swayze,a "WHITE" Demi Moore, and a "BLACK" Whoopi Goldberg" it really, really became big. They wanted the very best so naturally without any question at all, it was Mr. Bobby Hatfield's of the Righteous Brothers that was the absolute best as you have just heard. "Blue Eye Soul". The only person to date with a "Super Perfect Pitch" was the Very Talented and Very Blessed Beautiful "BLACK" Lovely, Mariah Carey. But she has not sung it yet. The Righteous Brothers in my opinion and in the opinion of many others as well in this particularly song "RULED". He killed it. He was and will always be Numero Uno. He sang it the best. He really did. Goodday young man and may God bless you too. Adios. PS: Too bad that it is a real shame that nowadays one does not hear beautiful romantic love songs unless they are from the past. Remember that Stereotyping of whatever and whoever not only sucks big time but really shows our true colors. A person has a soul but a soul has no color. Adios. And the song "Pretty Woman" was sung by a "WHITE" guy Mr. Roy Orbison in 1964. Goodday.

Unchained Melody: Bobby Hatfield live performance. The Andy Williams Show- Episode #4.5 Episode aired: Monday, Oct 25, 1965: Robert Lee Hatfield (August 10, 1940 - November 5, 2003) Bobby Hatfield, who had a higher countertenor voice to Bill Medley’s, William Thomas Medley (born September 19, 1940) baritone, sang lead on this track. It was his idea to record it, since Medley and Hatfield were each allowed to choose a song to sing as a solo vocalist on their albums. As Medley tells it, Hatfield knew the song well, and was a big fan of the Roy Hamilton and Al Hibbler versions of the song. *In Nov. 2003 Hatfield died of a heart attack at age 63. The Righteous Brothers version was a huge hit, but it was recorded with far more modest expectations. Phil Spector considered it album filler and released it as a B-side. The single had "Unchained Melody," with no producer credit on the label, as the flip to Gerry Goffin and Carole King's "Hung on You," but many DJs preferred "Unchained Melody" and played that one instead. This infuriated Spector, who subsequently left no doubt (actually calling DJs telling them to play “Hung On You” not “Unchained Melody “)as to which side of a Philles single was the A-side. * The famous climax of this song where Bobby Hatfield sings the high "I need your love" line wasn't how the song was written. In an interview with Bill Medley, he explained that Hatfield did two takes of the song, then left. He would often reconsider his performance and come back later to change it, and that's what he did on this track, returning to ask Medley if he could make an edit. This was no easy task, since with a maximum of four tracks to work with, you had to record over part of the original take, but Medley accommodated and Hatfield delivered that soaring vocal line. Said Medley: "I punched that in and before he left he said, 'No, I can do it better. ’And I said, 'No, you can't.' [Laughs] And I think it's a big part of that song." * This was released on Philles Records, Phil Spector's label. Spector, known for his "Wall Of Sound" technique, did not produce this - Bill Medley did. In a 2007 statement to the Forgotten Hits newsletter, Medley said: "You have to remember that I was producing our stuff before Phil Spector... I mean I produced 'Little Latin Lupe Lu,' 'My Babe' and all that stuff. Then when we went with Phil, Phil asked me if I would produce the albums because it was too time consuming for him to produce the entire albums. So he was going to do the singles and I would do the album. And so that's how that happened and that's how I produced 'Unchained Melody,' which Phil Spector apparently now takes credit for. He can have the credit. And I'm not a producer. I know how to produce. But it's obviously not a Spector production. 'Unchained Melody' was never intended to be the single... it was produced to be on the album. It was put on the B side of a Phil Spector single 'Hung On You' and the minute it was released 'Unchained Melody' just went through the roof." Hatfield’s rendition of “Unchained Melody” although not the original, is the ‘gold standard’. Also: Bobby Hatfield live performance of “Unchained Melody “ on the TV show “Shindig” kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rq95qbuK1JutfqM.htmlsi=OmBVdie7xz-GPuIh
