Fun fact, this song was made for a female vocalist and when Taemin got a hold of it, he requested to not change the key because he liked it so much. Also, he is actually playing the piano at the beginning of the video. He requested the sheet music the night before the shoot and came in to play it for the video. If you like this song, I recommend "Idea" next. The writers of WAP were the producers for the song and really nailed the vibe. The video for his song "Want" was what got me into his music videos, so I always recommend that one. Have fun exploring this legend's discography. Because once you Taem-in you don't Taem-out

Taemin is in both SHINEE and SuperM. He also has a lot of excellent solo works. He is well loved and respected for his outstanding dance skills. I recommend "Criminal" and "Move" for some more solo videos from Taemin. Also "Don't Call Me" "Atlantis" and "Juice" for some of the more recent SHINee songs (they debuted a long time ago so there are many, many more older songs as well to choose from). From SuperM, I'd start with "Jopping."

This is TAEMIN! YAY! He's a member of Shinee. So you've heard him before. He is an IDOL amongst the idols.

Taemin became a trainee under SM at age 11 as a self-taught dancer. He was one of three selected out of thousands the day he auditioned, but he caught their eye with his pop-locking skills, the fact he crossed the line when he wasn’t supposed to (on purpose), and his cheekiness. Though he didn’t feel ready, he debuted with SHINee as the maknae (youngest member) and main dancer at age 14. Though he didn’t get any vocal lines at first (many stated he was tone-deaf, but he was going through puberty), Taemin worked his butt off to improve-so much so he was getting frequent nosebleeds and passed out a few times. His hyungs (basically a term for older “brothers”/close males) helped him develop his voice, especially Onew (Leader of SHINee and also helped coach SM trainees) and Jonghyun (widely regarded as the best vocalist of KPOP), to the point he was the first SM idol to go solo whilst active in his group (2014, at 21 years old). He’s now known for being an exceptional vocalist and is a main vocalist for SHINee and SuperM. In 2014, Taemin had his solo debut (the first artist to ever do so while also active in a group) as the ACE of SM Entertainment (the best of the best in all areas)-Ace is the name of his first solo album and he was the first to receive that title. Now he has gained even more titles: he is the Idols’ Idol (most idols today will say the reason they became an idol and the person they most look up to/aspire to be is Taemin and/or SHINee), he is also a Prince of KPOP (which is a title granted to SHINee), Golden Maknae of SM that’s talented in all areas (besides the fact everyone loves him-not only is he talented, but he’s a wonderful human), Legendary Solo Man (역솔남-near as I can tell, it’s a title bestowed on those similar to “Diva”, given to artists such as Aretha, Dolly, Cher, etc), 탬또롤 (Taemddorol, meaning 'Taemin, once again, a role model'), and the Michael Jackson of South Korea (he’s also known as one of the best dancers in South Korea, if not the best). His backup dance teams are the best in the business and are comprised of multiple famous choreographers (with that said, it’s still difficult (if not impossible) to see anyone BUT Taemin when he’s dancing). It’s no surprise that he’s very well-respected amongst choreographers: his friend (infamous choreographer) Koharu Sugawara nicknamed him “Dancer Killer”. In 2019, SM collaborated with Capitol Records, USA, and assembled a group of seven of the best artists in KPOP to debut in the USA: SuperM. In fact, they even collaborated with Marvel after having been dubbed the Avengers of KPOP. Of course, Taemin was the first chosen and helped pick the other six members. Though not the eldest member, he is the senior member of the group due to the length of time he’s been in the industry. As such, he would have been leader, but he deferred that task to Baekhyun of the group EXO (who’s slightly older than Taemin). Taemin has been the maknae of SHINee his entire career and didn’t feel he would be best suited to lead the others. However, he is the center of the group and they ALL (including Baekhyun) defer to his experience and take his advice to heart. He is very caring towards his dongsaengs (juniors) and was nicknamed Taemresa (inspired by Mother Teresa). Baekhyun is an incredible leader, by the way…don’t want anyone to misunderstand my intentions behind what I’ve said. With the debut in SuperM, Taemin became the first idol to ever debut in three generations: 2nd with SHINee, 3rd as a solo artist, and 4th Gen with SuperM. The second (and only other) artist to achieve this did so a year ago, Taeyeon of Girls Generation. Taemin recently discharged from his mandatory military service 04 Apr 2023. Taemin is one of the most active members on SNS: he messages on Bubble (text, pix, and voice…including him playing piano and singing to us), frequently goes live on IG, posts pics, and resumed his unofficial job of SHINee’s Spoiler Fairy. He’s also the member who mostly treats his fans like we’re in a parasocial relationship-acting and talking as though we’re his significant other. Taeminnie calls his fans Jjakgoongs (a name meaning best friends/buddies/partners) and Taemints (Taemints being the name of his Shawol fans, based on the fact SHINee was a total secret and not marketed at all before their debut so Taemin would hand out mints and candies to tempt people to listen to their music and attend their debut-which not even their families were aware they were debuting until they were on stage in front of them). Another important thing to know regarding Taemin has to do with his beloved hyung, Jonghyun, whom you know we tragically lost in 2017. Jonghyun was Taemin’s biggest fan and supporter, even rescheduling his own concert to attend Taemin’s. They were inseparable. Considering SHINee was back on the stage less than two months after his passing, the group did not have very long to grieve. (They returned after much consideration and at the behest of Jjong’s mom and sister.) Taemin is a well-known workaholic…he never takes breaks and hasn’t since he was a child. He’s in the studio every single day-not even taking off for Christmas. In fact, he went live on the day of his military discharge from the practice room and was renting dance studios while he was enlisted because he HAS to dance…it’s part of him. His jump from nonstop working and perfecting his abilities into military life, plus dealing with depression and anxiety, truly hit him hard. Thankfully, he appears to be doing much better now. He looks and sounds happy and healthy, which is honestly all I could ever hope for. Taemin and SHINee are all fluent in Japanese and release just as many Japanese albums as Korean. They are so popular in Japan, many do not consider them foreign artists (which is testament to the love and respect the Japanese people have for them). They even have an entirely separate crew of dancers and staff in Japan. Most artists have to request to hold concerts at Tokyo Dome (it’s an unspoken rule you need to be able to sell out the 55,000-seat arena to perform), but they actually reach out and request SHINee and Taemin because they know they’ll sell out in seconds (whether as a group or Taemin as a solo artist) and have to host multiple days to accommodate. The guys host the entire concert in Japanese and do not need translators. I mentioned SHINee being trendsetters-that includes Taemin, of course. Besides introducing new music styles and breaking boundaries with his concepts, he has also worked to break other boundaries, as well. Early in his career, SM took advantage of his prettiness and exaggerated it-he was often mistaken as a female (especially during the long-hair era) and would frequently clear his throat to “discreetly” let others know he’s male. He absolutely hated it, and understandably so-he was a teenager. Later, he embraced some of the socially-viewed “feminine” qualities and has worked hard to showcase that music has no gender. Taemin made waves with his song, “Move”, which he performs with his Girl Gang (all-female backup dancers). The choreography blends masculine and feminine energy like no one but Taemin can do (so many tried to imitate it, it was dubbed “Move Disease”, but none come close). He also lends that androgynous aspect to his fashion choices. Taemin has many facets to him-when the camera is on (filming MVs, music shows, etc), he is a true professional. With his SHINee hyungs, he’s a mischievous crackhead who lives to torment them. They raised him, so they spoil him, but don’t misunderstand-his love for them is unmatched and it goes both ways. With SuperM, he’s silly, but caring-he took them under his wings and is their mentor. He also has his Padding Squad (friend group consisting of Kai from EXO, Jimin from BTS, Ravi from VIXX, Timoteo of HotShot, WannaOne/HotShot’s Sungwoon, and a non-celebrity friend). They’re named the Padding Squad, or Padding Friends, because Taemin bought and designed matching customized jackets with their own unique logo. For me, personally, I can appreciate someone’s musical abilities…but to become a true fan (or “stan”), they have to be really special and have qualities setting them apart besides simple talent. Taemin, SHINee as a group, and the other SHINee members as soloists have my utmost devotion (they’re all five incredible soloists-in fact, SHINee is the ONLY group in which ALL members have hit #1 on the Worldwide iTunes Chart as soloists). Taemin's "Criminal" was my gateway drug to k-pop -- I got into his music, then his collab with SuperM, and begging a friend to rec me more songs eventually led me to SKZ. Taemin is an absolutely legendary dancer -- Hyunjin is a huge fan of his and did a fabulous dance cover of "Criminal", so I was so thrilled when the two of them did the HARD and S-Class challenges together!

I see "Advice" as a continuation of the themes within Taemin's previous Never Gonna Dance Again album trilogy -- "2 Kids," "Criminal" and "Idea." With "Criminal" and "Idea," Taemin talks about being involved in a toxic relationship -- not necessarily a romantic relationship, but a metaphor for his relationship with fame -- in which he agrees to be manipulated almost to the point of being destroyed in order to become the artist we see today. But at the end of "Idea" we see him become free from the box everyone wants to put him in and he comes to terms with his role as an idol. He has now formed his own "Idea" about himself and what it means to be an idol, etc. As Taemin explained during his VLive event for "Advice", "Advice" is like the end to the first chapter in his life, and it marks the beginning of the second chapter. The song seems to be his way of saying I am done caring to everyone who judged him and all those haters who spread rumors and misinformation about him. "Advice" shows that he is now free and confident to be himself, breaking stereotypes and now only listening to himself. Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two performers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends. (He is considered the blueprint for what it means to be successful as a male solo artist. He was one of the first male idols from an active group to go solo, and he did it at such a young age, starting in 2014 at 21 years old. He has been a solo artist for more than half his career.) And the title of the industry's BEST dancer isn't just a fan's opinion, but it's a widely agreed upon title bestowed on Taemin by his peers and the industry as a whole. (If you ask any of your favorite Kpop dancers who was their inspiration, they will most likely name Taemin as one of them.) In "Advice" he's basically saying, "Stop trying to put me in a box, in which I'll never fit in." He is also speaking to everyone that says he's getting old, that he's just a Michael Jackson wannabe that doesn't sell a lot of albums because he tries too hard to be edgy, etc. He's rebelling against all those people who are constantly advising him to make more mainstream music, or to follow the traditional Kpop idol style, in order to boost his sales and his popularity. However, as Taemin is making clear in "Advice," that is not who he is and he will never be "normal" or "mainstream" and he is OK with that. In the scenes where you see him covered in ink, I think that is supposed to be him showing everyone how he is no longer the "unstained," cute maknae everyone wants to think of him as. The diamond you see painted on his hand when he is playing the piano, and you see drawn on his bicep, etc. is SHINee's symbol and all the pearl aqua blue/green colors you see in the MV is SHINee's official color. (The large tattoo on his hip is real. Hence why in the lyrics he says, "I destroy the torso that you were chasing after." He's tired of people thinking they even have a say in what he does with his body.) This song was specifically designed to not be like anything he has ever done before. He plays the piano, he raps, he shows off his falsetto notes, etc., which is different than what we often hear and see from him. He intentionally used this song to prove that he isn't one type of singer. People often think of Taemin as a sultry vocalist that sings in a breathy comfortable, less dynamic style. So, with this song he wants to prove to everyone that he can be unpredictable and try new things. Yet again, you can't put him in a box or tell him who to be. Everything you see in this MV is 100% Taemin, including the piano playing. Everything that Taemin's haters like to point out about him and say are reasons why he shouldn't be held to such high esteem, I find completely ridiculous. I don't think that anyone who actually knows him would ever say he has played it safe at any time in his career. If you think he is only one dimensional, and that he is trying to be anything other than himself, then you really don't know Taemin. Everything he does is different, out there and definitely not safe. It's always uniquely Taemin, and he couldn't do it any other way. Also, because Taemin is a member of SHINee, none of his songs are ever like anything you have ever heard or seen before from him. It will always have a new beat, style and sound. As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, SHINee is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend, and that includes the members' solo work. With every new song Taemin produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from him in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, it still will be uniquely Taemin-like. Which is another example of how you can never put him in a box or expect anything from him. :D Another theme in "Advice" is about how Taemin is embracing his androgynous side -- but on his own terms -- which I think is a continuation of the message in his "Move" MV. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee -- he debuted in 2008 at 14 years old -- he was known for his delicate feminine features. It took him a long time to accept that he was recognized for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career -- he is now 27 years old in this MV -- he is making a statement about how he has decided to be himself and no longer care what people think. Music is art and art has no gender. So, that is why in "Advice" you see him wearing hair extensions, fishnets and women's Supreme sportswear, etc. But if you notice, his choreography is very fast paced and sharp, which is hyper masculine -- a complete contrast to the "feminine" image people want to give him. You also see him wearing makeup, but it's smeared on his face, as if to say, "people may think of me as a 'Pretty Boy,' but I don't care about looking pretty." In the lyrics he is saying, "It's creepy how people are always looking to cause drama, so stop trying to create scandals in my life that don't really exist. It's all just stories you make up." He's tired of all those people who seem to look for reasons to cause drama, where none really exists. Where he says "floppy" in the lyrics, I think he's talking about knowing about or hearing firsthand the things people are saying about him, but he is choosing not to pay attention to them because what they're saying is flopping or doesn't hold any weight or have any substance, etc. "Advice" just proves that every time people try to put Taemin in a box, he destroys it and keeps coming back with something more unique and never seen before. Hence, why in the choreography he puts his hands in front of his face and creates a movement that looks like an animated mouth talking. It represents how everyone keeps talking about him and what they are saying is nonsense, which makes them look and sound ridiculous, etc. Which is why in the lyrics he says, "You will never get the keys to my lock" because he doesn't ever plan to give people what they want and allow them access to his secrets and personal life, etc. (Those people who like to gossip about him will never truly know the real him.) I interpret the "One (piece of) Advice" he is talking about in the lyrics as a reference to the advice he keeps being given about being more mainstream, but he's saying, "stop trying to make me conform to the image you have in your head of who I should be and what I should do." In other words, take all that time and effort you have been using to come up with ways to talk about how he doesn't fit in, etc. and put it to better use. "Follow my own advice" and do something original for once. As a devout Catholic, Taemin often uses Biblical references and metaphors in his songs and MVs. And the crucifixion pose at the end of "Advice" is sort of a signature pose for him. I interpret it to be like he is saying, "And that is the end, this is my final word, take it or leave it, but don't doubt me. I have given it my all and laid everything I had out there for you," etc. Yet again, Taemin is always even more impressive live. Also, check out his dance practice video on SM's SMP Floor channel. As I said, Taemin is on a whole other level.

You already see from comments lol the answer to should I watch more Taemin is always - YES. LOL He’s the king of kpop, a god of dance and a member of K-pop’s royal family group Shinee. He’s also in SuperM (a mix of SM artists from Wayv, EXO, Shinee &NCT) and has his strong solo career too. Dancer extraordinaire he has the signature style many try to replicate and often you will catch his iconic ‘T’ pose in his choreo. The dancers for shinee, taemin and superm have to be super tough as it’s universally understood the gods of dance like Taemin and Kai are hard to keep up with so they are pushed to their max. Oh and he can dance 100% the choreo and maintain live smooth steady 98% vocals. Again why so revered. He can indeed play the piano lol 🎹 He’s highly respected within the industry and literally all idols look to him with the highest respect. He is also both baby and savage lol funny and bold with members but can also be shy and quiet. Cat dad and can’t really cook, hates cucumbers 🥒 lol but adorable and eternally youthful. Taemin solo content I would recommend are: Want, Move, Criminal, Black Rose (might need to be a patreon as no MV), Thirsty, Danger (debut solo), Press Your Number (MV and two perf vids avail), IDEA and Sayonnara Hitori (Goodbye in Japanese). I mean really it’s just everything he does. Lol SuperM debut was Jopping, also rec One and Tiger Inside. Shinee - wow it’s a LOT you saw Hard. I don't follow TAEMIN but of the few songs I've been able to listen to I really love this one (Advice) and Move ❤

So, this is actually a trilogy. The prologue is “2 Kids”, but the trilogy itself is “Criminal”, “IDEA”, then “Advice”. All the songs have multiple layers of meanings, but the underlying message and theme is Taemin’s internal struggle between idol-Taemin and IRL-Taemin. “Criminal” touches on Stockholm Syndrome…being a willing captive to his idol persona. “IDEA” deals with Plato’s Theory of Idea: Form vs Identity…fighting to merge into one true self rather than two halves. “Advice” is basically his mic drop to the industry that has tried to conform him into their perfect idea of an idol, telling them to take his own advice and not push him around, that he’s going to stay true to himself. He’ll get tattoos if he wants (“destroying” his torso) - which is why he finally revealed his beautiful hip tattoo…the smeared makeup…androgynous clothing/hair…female backup dancers. No matter what, he’s going to do what he wants and the more they try to stop him, the faster he’ll shut them down. Something else to note: besides his rapid rapping, this choreography is the fastest by any solo artist…And he had to learn it within an extremely short time frame, so you can really see Taemin’s genius at work throughout each performance as he perfected and further Taeminized the choreo. Before Taemin went into the military he dropped this on us like it was nothing... New stylization of a project he just wanted to try... He is a chameleon. Whatever you set forth in front of him he will achieve. Been doing it since debut age 14 in Shinee. He's hitting notes to show his vocal range (with BoA)... he decided to rap to show fluidity... He combined his Michael Jackson aura with Hip-hop movements... Footwork. I thought 'Taemin - IDEA' was all we would get... here he go flexin' as always. The man is sick. Taemin is a member of Shinee and SuperM. The vocals from SM Entertainment is undeniable. And the budget for these MVs man!! Hope you can also react to Ten's Birthday, if you haven't gone there yet. Yes Teddy, so happy you are reacting to Taemin, he's one of my favourite Idols, and he is the ultimate idol of idols, he has been a massive inspiration to idols who have debut after him. I would say include his songs criminal, idea, want & move. I love his solo work, but he's also amazing with his group SHINee, look at songs Juice, Don't call me, Atlantis, Everybody, Sherlock, which are also worth your reaction time, also check him out in SuperM, which includes Exo's Baekhyun & Kai, NCT's TY & Mark and WAYV's Ten & Lucas, though Lucas now left the groups, start with Jopping, 100, Tiger Inside, Monster & Infinity, I may be wrong, but I think you would like Jopping. 😁

I would recommend more Taemin in : "Move" (the MV that skyrocketed him); "Criminal", "Idea" , "Thirsty." He is a member of Shinee, of course, and SuperM. He is called the "Michael Jackson of Kpop".

Taemin is a very unique artist, I love the man for the thought he puts into his work and concepts. You should check out more of his music, it's hard to ever be disappointed with what he puts out. Also, funny you mentioned Bewhy because he's also buddies with him. Bewhy gave him advice (no pun intended) for Taemin's rap verse in his group's latest release that you reacted to.

I knew that first part of rapid speech would get you. Taemin was a literal baby when he debuted with Shinee. Its amazing to see how he has grown and thrived. His military service was hard and he went through a lot of foul things from other soldiers. Like people trying to sneak pics of him showering. He ended up being in different lodgings i think at the end due to it and his mental health. He is an angel and i am so happy and proud of him❤

When people call him the Idol of Idols, they Mean it. There are Literal tons of newer gen idols who admire Taemin and cite him as one of their inspirations. Taemin danced both the S Class challenge of SKs and the Hard challenge of Shinee with Hyunjin and you could Honestly tell hiw Thrilled Hyunjin was to be dancing with Taemin. Hyunjin has danced a cover to Taemin's Criminal and when you've watched enough of both of their dances you can tell that Hyunjin has taken a lot of inspiration from Taemin. Not copied him or tried to be him but the inspiration is there. LOVE that you did Shinee in the first place and now Taemin as well. I'll be happy to see more. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
