Yes, Taemin is a very unique individual...lol. His creativity is on steroids 24/7. This is a man who has three very different personalities depending upon which group he's with at the time. The most "real" Taemin, I believe, is when he's with his SHINee brothers. As the maknae of SHINee, he can quickly alternate between very cute to an absolute savage in the next second. He has been very spoiled by all his SHINee brothers and gets whatever he wants while also giving back to them. They are collectively a group of goofy guys who absolutely love each other and their fans. As Taemin has said many times, SHINee is his safe space, his home, and family. They have been together for 19, going on 20 years when you count training time. They also just recently celebrated their 16th Anniversary with a concert encore in May, 2024, and are now embarking upon their 17th year in the business. They promise us (SHAWOLs = fandom name) they will never stop until they are physically unable to go on. A way to understand their closeness is to watch the compilation video of Taemin missing his brothers while they were in the military and he was all alone carrying on with his solo work. This is the Taemin who gets brutally honest with his fans who have been with him for quite a while and understand the depth of his music, sometimes three-layers deep beneath the surface lyrics. His lyrics usually convey some aspect of his painful history as a youngster (he was only 14 when he debuted with SHINee as their main dancer) dealing with instant fame, constant attention, and being sexualized by the industry because of his "prettiness". Even his SHINee brothers banded together to try and shield him from the worst of it. Brother Jonghyun even went so far as to write a song for Taemin called, "Pretty Boy" wherein one line of the lyrics states plainly, "I am more than the imaginations in your head." Taemin's "Guilty" is one such song where he let's reveals some of the "stuff" he has gone through in his early years. This is his most personal revelation yet. It's basically Taemin showing us his memories, what they signify to him, and the cr*p he has gone through. This is what makes this song so beautiful and wrenchingly heartbreaking at the same time. This is the raw Taemin sharing his life with us, his fandom family. I'll give you a breakdown of the meaning in a separate post. As the senior member in SuperM experience wise, Taemin is the upbeat, mature mentor to a bunch of his fanboys who he loves. Taemin really dotes on and takes care of the members of SuperM, to the point that shortly after they debuted, he was given yet another nickname to add to the collection - Taemrisa (as in Mother Teresa [Taemin is Catholic, too]). This brings out his cutesy side as well. This is also why Taemin has been regularly called "The Idols' Idol" due to the fact that so many 3rd-5th generation idols cite the veteran as being their role model or the reason why they became idols. Many of SuperM's members talk about how much they admire, respect, and love Taemin because he is so humble and willing to share his secrets with them; help them improve; and be friends with them. He's not standoffish but rather welcoming and eager to help or be friends with them. There are people who know Taemin only from his dark and sensual solo songs and then get shocked when they see his cute side. And there are people who know only his cute side and get shocked by his solos :) He is famous for he duality - a cute, bit shy and sometimes mischievous SHINee maknae becomes a real beast on stage. People jokingly say that "the performance demon" leaves his body after the music stops, because he really can switch in the split of a second to his normal, goofy self. Of course not all of his songs are that intense. He has many ballads and even some upbeat songs. Most of his title tracks are on the darker, sexy side though. Girls, the word "iconic" is an understatement....being the amazing dancer he is, he is called the MJ of all of Kpop. And I agree. For kpop dancers, Taemin is #1, Kai is #2, followed by Lay, Jhhope, Jimin and then Ten Lee. So I take it you know very little about him besides being in SUPERM.... He is a member of SHINEE, and started in Shinee back at 14 years old I believe back in 2006 or 2008...was the youngest member of Shinee, which like Exo, Shinee is a well-known, legendary and incredibly famous group from the 2nd generation. (Exo are 3rd generation, a few years younger than Shinee) Known for his singing and more so dancing, Taemin started his solo career when other Shinee members started their military enlistments) When Shinee members started coming home, he was the last to enlist being the youngest (all Korean males must complete their mandatory military service by age 29, about 18-25 months...Kai and Sehun of Exo are the last 2 members of Exo in service being the maknaes, they are in service right now) As soon as Taemin finished his service, he came out with this mv. So you might want to get familiar with Taemin's solo music..he has many mvs. This "Guilty" mv more or less touches on some kind of child abuse...whether se****ly, physically, mentally or all, and whether it is from his personal experience as a youngster, we don't know, but whoever the song is about became messed up because of the abuse, and views love as a way to get back at the abusers, not knowing the proper way to interpret love, and feels guilty as if the abuse was their own fault, some kids may feel that maybe they deserved it. It is a very surreal subject, and many see it as a sad realization how child abuse becomes traumatic to those victims, as they grow older with twisted views of relationships.... Taemin is not just a cutie pie and a member of SUPERM, he is legendary. Don't overlook Taemin's main group Shinee. They're known as the Princes of Kpop and they are universally loved and respected. Many other artists have covered their songs. He's the baby of Shinee. They are all amazingly talented and accomplished.

This is what Taemin sounds like. His music and MV’s are artsy, dark and intense for the most part. (He does change the style/genre of music though) He likes to express his emotions through dance and his music. He is super cute and friendly on the outside but underneath there is a lot of really deep stuff.

He is not called "idol of idols" because of his cute personality (it is not a name given to him by the fandom, as fans like to do) well, maybe because of this too, but young idols look up to him because of his hard work and charisma, his ability to strive for development. Taemin is a living legend in the industry (his group is SHINee pronounced as Shiney who are deemed the Princes of Kpop because of their concepts, vocals and performances. They're trendsetters and the main influence for the new kpop today) Taemin is coined as the MJ of Kpop, the ACE, AND the idol of idol's by the industry because of how many younger idols cited him as their role model to become an idol themselves. Taemin's title tracks are mostly sensual artsy catholic symbolism but trust me when I tell you the man LOVES his ballads and has so many for his b-sides. He has so many gems in his discography!! Oh, you have just had a taste of the absolutely phenomenal artist Taemin!! I'm not surprised that you were shocked if all you knew him from was SuperM! When he is with his SHINee members (SHINee is still very much active and incredibly respected and loved by fans and idols alike) he can be goofy and mischievous--taking full advantage of his utterly adored maknae status. With SHINee, he fits his dancing and performing to compliment and enhance the group. Same with SuperM, but as he is the most senior (in terms of experience, not age) of that group he takes on a more caring and guiding role. But Seriously, as a solo artist he brings a whole new level of intensity, sensuality, complexity, magnetism, and just plain X factor. He is an absolute BEAST on stage, and I can't recommend enough for you to watch some of his live concert performances. Have fun exploring his artistry!!

Taemin is the embodiment of duality, Off stage he is the cutest cinnamon roll of a person you'll ever see, on stage he's a demon and the dark emo king of k-pop. Taemin is widely considered to be the best dancer in k-pop, and it's for a VERY good reason, the man IS dance. He is from the phenomenal group SHINee, they debuted in 2008 (when Taemin was only 14) and are STILL going strong.

I'm happy every time people discover the legendary K-pop male solo artist "Taemin." My favorite song is "Want," followed by "Criminal," "Idea," and his big hit "Move," but you should prepare a lot for this song. His debut song "Danger" and more of his B-sides are also worth watching, like "Thirty," "Black Rose," etc. His ballads "Rise" and "Soldier" are beautiful as well. His Japanese songs are also amazing, but I really like his Japanese ballads "Under My Skin" and "Sekai de Ichiban Aishita Hito.

Yes, ladies, I'm so happy you've reacted to Taemin. He is one of my favourite idols. He is also the idols Idol, many idols look up to him. He debuted at 14 years of age with SHINee, and he worked really hard on becoming a great vocalist. His dancing is another level. He always amazes me. He is so mesmerizing to watch. Don't let his sweet side fool you, he can also be savage at times, especially when he is with his SHINee members. Usually all in good humour though. Also check out SHINee, they are great too, started off as a five member group in 2008, but sadly, one of the members died in 2017, was a devastating loss to the group and fans. Taemin is one of the best dancers in all of k-pop...he moves in a unique and inimitable way...he debuted when he was 14 years old with Shinee...a legendary group that revolutionized the dance industry k-pop (for example they introduced dance practices). This year Shinee celebrated 16 years since their debut with Replay, an iconic song (like lucifer, sherlock, View, Ring ding dong) which I recommend you listen to.

He has many sultry songs. I recommend the Want MV, and Move. Both are iconic.

Taemin did the Guilty challenge with Wonbin from RIIZE, the best out of all of them with other idols (in my opinion), I recommend you check out that YT Short. Taemin is often called the idol's idol because he has inspired and influenced so many (now active) artists. Originally, from the group Shinee, has multiple solo releases and also SuperM, like you mentioned. Truly an amazing dancer, singer, and actor / performer (live and video)!! He has so many songs I could recommend, however a track which is much different than this and other tracks of his but on the same album as Guilty is The Rizzness. I know the title is cringe, but I highly recommend it. Nice reaction, thanks for checking out the various videos for Guilty too! There is something I love so much about hearing someone call SHINee's demon maknae as so sweet and innocent lol. I am glad that he took care of his memebers in Super M though. Taemin tends to do darker solo music, I would recommend Advice, and Thirsty (offsick) to watch.

This MV is a continuation of Taemin's toxic struggle between the relationship of the two egos in his mind (indicated by the hand inside his shirt grabbing himself -- it's coming from inside himself): the demon tempting him with the perks of his celebrity life clashing with his Christian self desiring to adhere to his Christian worldview, and the sexualization of Taemin as a young boy who entered the Kpop industry at just 14 YO and had to deal with all the toxicity such an industry can produce outside the spotlight. Taemin LOVES what he does, but the temptations to go astray and embrace a worldly lifestyle are many. This is the cause of his guilt--the urge to do forbidden things coupled with the guilt he feels over some things he has been required to do by the industry. The person clinging to the attendant's leg is Taemin himself. He's trying to cling to his faith-based identity. He digs his fingers into his own flesh to feel pain and bring himself back to, or hold onto, reality. This personal story concept, initially introduced in his 2016 MV for "Press Your Number", also runs through his 2018 Japanese song, "Under My Skin, as well as 2020's "Criminal", "IDEA" (in fact the entire "Never Gonna Dance Again" Acts 1 & 2 albums of 2020), and 2021's "Advice". It's a very personal storyline that traces his entire history and experience as an idol. For this particular song/MV, Taemin indicated that he researched both "Demian" by Hermann Hesse and ""Eroticism: Death and Sensuality" by the French philosopher, Georges Bataille. The guilt concept examines how humans process their guilt, especially with respect to dealing with the forbidden, sensuality, and death. For Taemin, this toxic relationship is within himself and is displayed through the dual character he plays of Abraxas (wearing a headdress and representing the mythological gnostic demigod of a heretical sect, later referred to as a demon). However, Taemin also plays the character of himself being tormented by this internal demon who constantly plagues and entices him to embrace worldly desires. The entire song is a dialogue between Abraxas and Taemin. During the dialogue, Taemin is struggling (the choreo) to fight off being possessed and swallowed completely by Abraxas. We see even more of this struggle in the b-side performance video for "The Rizzness". IT'S WILD! I hope you will also react to that. In that performance video, you clearly see the demon, "Abraxas" alone (as he's in Taemin's head) all in black, pointed ears, and brow ridges, and Taemin, with backup dancers, dressed in white (associated with innocence, righteousness, and goodness in religious symbolism while black represents death, evil, darkness, and chaos). Continuing with "Guilty", we see Taemin walking through institutions of his memory such as an abandoned school (which, as an introvert, he hated), or hospital/mental institution (brainwashing-Taemin was extremely sexualized by the industry as a very young idol specifically because he was so pretty), and/or training center (SM?), always being controlled and in situations that produce temptations to go against his values. If he is not constantly vigilant, "....when you've caught on (Abraxas), I'm already gone (Taemin)." In other words, he will lose himself instantly because the temptations are so appealing and addictive (as illustrated in his MVs for "Want" & "Famous"). The "poison apple" is the bait, (again just like in 2019's "Want" & "Famous")..."want a bite?" "Just a little more, that's all it takes." "Gift you once as a bait, then I (Abraxas) take everything." The demon is the father of hundreds of lies. The pre-chorus and chorus are actually further dialogue between Taemin and Abraxas: [Pre-chorus] Ooh-ooh (On that vague border between good and bad - Taemin) You played the fool for me - Abraxas (My judgment in the final moment - Taemin) [Chorus -- all Abraxas] Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh You got me G-U-I-L-T-Y - Trick and take everything from you Again, just playing a game all for fun Hundreds of lies Ooh yeah Taemin is a genius when it comes to interweaving layers of meanings usually involving various philosophies and Christianity into his lyrics (which he often rewrites/tweaks from SM samples to make them fit his concepts), which are then reflected through his choreo and basically every aspect of his performance, leaving us mesmerized trying to arrive at the deepest look into his psyche. This is why he is the ultimate artist for me. Yes, I love his dancing, but it's his lyrical and musical prowess that truly captivates me while also gratifying my desire for deeper, meaningful Christian messaging that is usually lacking in actual Christian music.
