Tammy Wynette is considered one of the most influential & successful artists who helped bring a woman's perspective to the male-dominated country music field. She was married at one time to fellow country music singer George Jones & they had some great duets together. "Stand By Your Man" was a huge hit & is considered her signature song. Some other songs are "Singing My Song", "The Ways To Love A Man", "He Loves Me All the Way", "Run Woman Run", "Good Lovin' (Makes It Right)" "Bedtime Story", "My Man (Understands)", "'Til I Get It Right", "Kids Say the Darndest Things", "Another Lonely Song" etc.

She was born in my home state of Mississippi.she, along with Loretta Lynn, broke into a male dominated country music. She was once married to George Jones ( He stopped loving her today ), which was a very popular song for him. They divorced after a tumultuous relationship. Another great reaction. God bless!

Your comments were all right on target. Obviously, you are a musician's musician. I am a huge fan - all genres. Tammy was no shrinking violet. She battled multiple illnesses, addiction and a high profile marriage to George Jones. She earned her title of The First Lady of Country Music and was a pioneer in the male dominated world of country music. Her influence and legacy within the undustry is astounding. She, along with Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton paved the way for all female country artists. Amazingly, they were all very close friends. Tammy's powerful "cry" in her voice is unmatched. No one can touch the Heroine of Heartbreak. She was first woman in country music to sell a million albums. I grew up in Russellville, Alabama, about 15 miles from Tammy's hometown which was on the Alabama/Mississippi border. She was a regular visitor to Russellville even at the peak of her stardom. i remember seeing her once in a full length white fur coat walking down main street in that God awful heat and humidity that only the deepest south can produce. George Jones had a home nearby on the Tennessee River. My grandmother summed Tammy's life and career so accurately by stating at the time of her death, "She just gave all she could give".

Tammy got a lot of backlash from feminist movement for this song. Tammy was my dad's very favorite singer. She was married to George Jones and had duets with him before marriage, during and even after they divorced. Johnny Cash was married to June Carter Cash, who was considered Country Royalty as her Mother was part of The Carter Family, who were legendary pioneers of Country music.

Johnny Cash had a weekly TV variety show. Tammy is considered probably one of the top 5 female country singers of all time. Tammy, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, and Reba are my top 5. There were other pioneering women of course, but these 5 ladies probably have collectively had the biggest impact on the genre. Tammy had a very turbulent marriage to George Jones and they were the first super couple in country music.

You know I am a 58 year-old woman from Canada Saskatchewan. I am glad that this song is out and I don't care if feminists wanted knock me down for saying listen to the words when he just wants to Arms don't forget men were little babies and they got to feel that safe time in their mothers arms and when they grew up all they have to do is show how tough and how much of a man they are sometimes he needs to feel safe, what do I know though I'm just a woman

The message of the times ran from Crazy by Patsy Cline to Jolene by Dolly Parton to Fist City by Loretta Lynn to Stand By Your man by Tammy Wynette; it was confusing but then you get to Jo de Messina with My Give A Damn’s Busted.

She was once married to George Jones, and he was a tough one to deal with. I believe that was during his big drinking years when he was actually called No Show Jones because he missed so many shows. Check out their duets D-I-V-O-R-C-E , Golden Ring, Two Story House.

Tammy Wynette was married to George Jones until his drinking split them apart. Some of the most beautiful songs in country music were recorded by George and Tammy. They recorded The Ceremony, Golden Rings, We're Gonna Hold On and Two Story House. Johnny Cash was married to June Carter who was his second wife and to whom he was married up to the time she died in May of 2003. Thanks for reacting to music by Tammy.

It took me years to figure out what Tammy was saying back then. Men just want to feel good. Some will argue "who cares what they want?". In this day and age men get very little kindness and they'll go a long way for the women who give it to them. I was a career woman, but I definitely admired the women who ran a home with style and grace.

June Carter Cash was Johnny's wife. At one time, Tammy Wynette was married to George Jones. They were duet partners, too, and remained close friends after their divorce. Tammy has a song D-I-V-O-R-C-E. The other top country duet of that time was Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. They won Entertainer of the Decade 1970s. Loretta Lynn was the only female country music artist to ever win Entertainer of the Decade. She wrote almost every song she recorded, and nearly all of them had some truth about her personal life in them. She's definitely worth checking out!

Tammy got a lot of flak for this song, because it encouraged putting up with men who are not good partners. She was married to George Jones & he was a drinker, big time. They finally divorced because she couldn't stand by her man anymore. This song was as popular as it was disliked. LOL This was an awards show & he was presenting her with the award. Johnny was married to June Carter Cash. Check out their duet 'Jackson'.

Such a beautiful classic. Yes, this message sounds dated and we women can do it all now, but the pendulum has swung too far the other way, and the result is that there are too many men out there not being husbands and fathers. Just my two cents.
