i'm a month late, but welcome to tvxq!! As others have said, debuted with 5 strong vocalists as an acapella group. IIRC, they were the strongest vocalists in SM at the time, something like that. I got into kpop in 2011 right, at the time TVXQ were THE gods of kpop (still are to me). I could go into a rant about their prowess, influence, trophies, etc. Even in recent years, they're still setting records, mostly in japan, that go unnoticed by modern kpop fans. Partially bc they're so deep into and successful in japan that they're just considered a jpop group. As if that wasn't even more impressive since they're still successful in korea, its not like they left. Currently they're only two, Yunho & Changmin. Both are solid soloists, I highly recommend both. The other 3 created the now inactive JYJ. For reasons (SM being petty) those three were basically not allowed to promote their music. Leading Jaejoong to go to japan and realize his jrocker dreams, and Junsu to become a highly respected musical actor (with some solos too). I recommend - Love in the Ice - Bolero - Mirotic (overplayed and cliche, but it's a must. everyone covers it) - down - something - Thank You (U-Know Yunho solo) - Maniac (Changmin solo) - Flower (Xia Junsu solo) - Mine (Jaejoong solo)

OMG! You found the reason I fell into the world of K-Pop and K-dramas. They opened my eyes to Asian content back in January of 2007 with their song Holding Back the Tears. Their drama “Vacation” is the reason I started watching k-dramas. They were the BTS of the 2000s. At the time they were considered the most photographed celebrities in the planet thanks to the prevalence of camera phones throughout Asia.

I love watching people react to Tonight lmao when I first heard it I decided then that no other vocalists would top TVXQ. They actually did boys II men Acapella covers! You should check them out! They technically split up and doing their own thing now except two who stayed but they are all so good still. Good songs never get old. It's great that you discovered DBSK5. They truly are the vocal gods of K-pop. But the same can be said for the three of them who left SM Entertainment and formed JYJ. I would be happy if you could make reactions to some DBSK songs like Begin, Why Did I Fall In Love With You, Wasurenaide /all three Tokyo Dome concert/ and JYJ's In Heaven, Creation and W /A Nation/, mandatory live performances! But if you don't want to make reactions, at least enjoy listening to them. If we're talking about vocal prowess, "W" is a vocal showcase.

I am always so ecstatic when someone new stumbles onto OT5. Their lives are on a whole different level. Like most people have suggested, Love in the Ice is a MUST. There are so many more amazing ballads, power ballads in their discography. A lot of their older songs (like Tonight) have an RnB feel to it. They also did some Boys 2 Men acapella.

I loved watching this reaction! Listen to the back catalog. For the longest time they were known as premier live singers. They were put together because they could all sing lead. They are definitely a VOCAL group in the truest sense of the word. If I'm not mistaken, all of them play at least 1 instrument. They all sang in fluent Japanese as well. Many ppl already know the two members who stayed so I'll talk about the sued for their freedom (literally). The pretty black hair guy going off is the gorgeous Jaejoong, who looks even better now that he did then. lol! He also has a wonderful rock voice. The deep sexy voiced guy is Yoochun. He got into a mess with false allegations bc of a chaebol...that's all I'm gonna say about that rn. The higher pitched singer is Junsu. He's an amazing musical actor. He was very instrumental in adding much more attention to the musical theater scene in South Korea. It's good that you brought up Boyz II Men. TVXQ intentionally sang live in 5 part harmony. You're correct. They do have an intricate working knowledge of music. I think Junsu was in training since 12. They also sing in Japanese. Try looking for the songs "Love in the Ice", "Bolero", "Begin". Honestly, the only reason I wasn't recommending TVXQ to you every day was because for some reason I assumed you must've reacted to them, what with them being vocal gods and close to SHINee. For TVXQ, I can honestly say, just pick any song, mv or live version, ot5 or ot2. You may also want yo see something from JYJ (the 3 members who left), or solos from remaining member and maknae Max Changmin, especially 'Devil' (song from a Swedish gospel artist that Changmin wrote new lyrics for) and 'Fever' (Greatest Showman musical theatre vibes). Edited to add: also I could suggest some SMtown collab stages with TVXQ members, like Changmin, Taeyeon and Winter's live performance of 'Priority'.

Their harmony as 5 is truly unbeatable. You may love their acapella collection! Unfortunately, 3 members left and TVXQ has become a duo since 2011. Personal suggestion if you want 5 of them blasting their vocals together to create some of the best ballad performances to ever exist: - Bolero at Tokyo Dome 2008 - Love in the Ice at Tokyo Dome 2008 Other than Tonight which you just reacted to, I think fans would agree these two songs are their representative ballads. These two songs are in Japanese. They were known in Japan back then for emotional ballads, not just the typical powerful dance songs. :) Hope this helps. For context, this concert at Tokyo Dome was their last concert in Japan as 5, so they were at the peak of their skills as 5 here (It's 3 years after Tonight released).
