Welcome to the world of FORESTELLA! They've met at an audition called "Phantom Singer 2" which finds the best male cross-over quartet in South Korea. Among hundreds of applicants, they survived to the last 12 singers. So, the judges divided those 12 singers into 3 groups. These 4 guys became as a one team, and they made their group name as "FORESTELLA(Forest + Stella), and this FORESTELLA has won that audition in 2017! When they sing on the stage, they normally set their positions like this : The first one from the left side is Ko Woo Rim(bass, a grad schooler in vocal music), Kang Hyung Ho(conter-tenor, an ex research chemist, never been musically trained), Cho Min Kyu(tenor, M.A. degree in vocal music), Bae Doo Hoon(tenor, a musical actor). They have different voices and tones, and each one is super-talented. But, when they sing together, their harmony sounds like perfect! They covered many songs from opera to pop music. “Je suis Malade” was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet. They became good friends. Lara has made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power and Serge Lama adopted these in his later interpretations. The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.

The second singer whom you loved, is Bae Doo-Hoon (who is a baritone with Theatrical training). The third singer was Cho Mingyu (a Classically trained Tenor) and last singer (doing high notes) is Kang Hyung-Ho. He was a Research Chemist who sang part time in a Rock band. He had NO Vocal training prior to the show forming Forestella. Try their Bohemian Rhapsody or Bad Romance, or Shape of you, or Sweet Dreams or Time in a bottle or Hijo de La Luna or Nella Fantasia or Lazanca or.... Many Dimash fans like Chinese singer Hua Chenyu. He sings Rock/Metal, Rap, Pop, SynthPop, Reggae, Broadway, Ballads, Traditional Chinese.... EVERY genre. He's a Composer, music arranger and multi instrumentalist. Not in my Top 50 Hua Chenyu Performances, but try "Nunchucks" as a fun intro to SOME of his abilities. He's a chameleon in musical direction and appearance. Best performer I've ever sern. Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Prince, Steven Tyler, Matt Bellamy, George Michael wrapped up in one person.

Hello *Dereck,* The one I prefer is the second singer. However, I salute the prowess of these four artists to sing in French in this way. Although phonetically speaking, it must not be easy for them. Latin languages for an Asian speaker and vice versa are always complicated to grasp at the level of pronunciation. Nevertheless, for a Francophone, it's rather fun to listen to this version, especially feminized for Lara Fabian, sung by men. Indeed, the text has been transposed from masculine (Serge Lama) to feminine (Dalida, Lara Fabian, among others) to correspond to the gender of the artist who interprets it. So they sing the female version.😋😊 On the other hand, they obscured the sometimes conversational side of the song, magnificently sublimated by Lara in her most famous live version.
