Many years ago I went to a tiny local bar here on the UWS of Manhattan named Mikel’s. It was a bar mainly frequented by musicians and the band STUFF, made up of the legendary studio players , Cornell Dupree , Richard Tee, Gordon Edwards, and Steve Gadd were playing . ( the capacity of the club was between 99 and 199. ) Lo and behold, Joe Cocker sort of stumbled up to the stage and started to sing this song . I’m not sure if he knew it when he started to sing but Stevie Wonders backup singers were having drinks there and they started belting the backup vocals from their table . The lights were shining in Joe’s eyes so he had a difficult time figuring out where this chorus of angels was coming from. He put his hand on this forehead to block the glare from the stage lights and he saw his angels. It was one of the many legendary nights at Mikell’s

Yes, you should react to the Beatles. Your musical journey will not be complete without knowing them. I would suggest starting with their early years and moving on through time to see how they progressed. Since you like to do research before reacting you will see that there was nothing like the Beatles when they burst onto the scene. They took the world by storm and influenced music and culture so intensely that we would literally be living in a different world right now had they not existed. I would even suggest watching a Beatles documentary before reacting so you will understand what a huge influence they were on modern music and the historical context in which they existed. Tumultuous times and societal upheaval and change. Civil Rights, Hippies, Viet Nam war, young people speaking out and so much more. America had never seen anything like it up until that point. You also should hear Bob Dylan’s song The Times They Are A-Changin' to also understand the historical significance of the time. It’s one thing to listen to good music from the 1960's-1970's but IMO it’s also important to know where and how that music came about.
