She did wear the headband to cover up the scar. The Crazy video is video with the studio recording played over it. Here, this is Patsy singing live with simple background music done on a TV program. If Patsy liked someone, she called them Hoss. She also learned that as a woman, concert and event promoters would take advantage and you got paid first or you might not get paid. She also used to say, no cash, no Cline, like Aretha Franklin, they made sure they were paid in full before they walked on stage. If you want a very country song, her first big hit was Walking After Midnight.

I fall to pieces, Walkin' after midnight, Your cheatin' heart, & Tennessee Waltz - a few of my top favorites & really shows off her amazingly silky smooth & soulful voice.

Country music used to be a big tent with many sub-genres: Cajun, Rockabilly, Western swing, Cowboy music (aka Country and Western), the Bakersfield Sound, Bluegrass, Hillbilly, Folk, Appalachian Mountain ballads, Gospel, Honky Tonk, and probably a few others I can't think of off hand). Patsy's music was called The Nashville Sound (Country pop).

It’s the almost yodel crack that makes her voice so distinctive. She also really pronounces each and every word.

There were 3 Country artists in the late 50’s and early 60’s that had voices and songs that crossed over into Pop. They were Marty Robbins, Patsy Cline, and Jim Reeves. All 3 started singing Country and Western ( as it was called then) but found the groove and songs to get play on pop radio and television variety shows.

Don Gibson and Johnny Horton and Jimmy Dean also had crossover hits. And don't forget Skeeter Davis. Her hit The End of the World is legendary.

This is one of my favorites from her. She was quite capable of doing other genres, but she was a country singer at heart. Some more suggestions for your journey into Patsy's music: Walking After Midnight, So Wrong, Strange and especially I Fall to Pieces.

Try her first hit, "Walkin' After Midnight." A tad more country. Back in those days, Patsy was the Nashville Sound side of country---with plinking piano and background harmonies. Some even then thought it was taking country in a pop direction.

This is live.. in the early 60's.. has to be because she died in 1963 as far as I know. sound quality wasn't there like it is today.. didn't matter. her voice is stunning!!

She changed her hairstyle after the accident to cover the scar. She was very conscious of it even though it wasn't that bad. I met Loretta Lynn years ago at her ranch, and she talked about Patsy. It was amazing. Her voice never had the country twang like Loretta, but she was on the Grand Old Opry many times and was considered a country singer.

She became part of what was called the Nashville Sound back in the 50s. Where recording studios used more backup singers and string instruments like you hear on Sweet Dreams and She's Got You.

You are listening to 1960's Patsy, in which her producer Owen Bradley was making all of her material more pop oriented in a style of music that became known as "The Nashville Sound." It was a hybrid of country and pop.

Patsy once joked she recorded "I Fall to Pieces" and then had her car accident. When "Crazy" came out, she said she hoped that wasn't a song to predict her future. It's possible that Patsy Cline was classified as a country singer because her records got most of their play on country radio stations.

'For a true perspective of Patsy, you should watch Loretta Lynn's "Coal Miner's Daughter." A large part of her career was around Patsy, the first half.

I love Patsy! This is one of her great “heartache” songs! At the time this was “Country and Western” She wasn’t hillbilly like Dolly or Loretta. She was on another level entirely. Try one of her Western songs THE WAYWARD WIND!

This is part of the same recording session as "Crazy" It's not a concert performance, but it is a live recording. The metal band around her head is a treatment from the recent car accident that nearly cost her her life. Sadly, she died a few years later in a plane crash.

The acceptance of the loss of a lover , what a great reason for song. The gorgeous little cry break in her voice and the tiny yodel at the end. Brandy Carlisleis a big fan and student of hers. This isn’t the studio recording,I don’t think. I have this album & cd but haven’t put them on in a while. It sounds a little different to me.

Im so glad your finding out how great Patsy Cline is. Ive been a #1 fan since 1977 and there is so much sad things about Patsys life, she is hiding her scar from her car accident which almost killed her.She wanted to be country and loved singing country. Try reacting to "Come On In and Sit Right Down, Walking After Midnight, Three Cigaretts in The Ash Tray to get a good listen to her country side and Please Video clips, to appreciate Patsy you really need to see her. Her death was beyond horrible, there is a crash site in Tenn. that is heart breaking and the details even m ore horrible. They found her watch which stopped apon impact. She was a salty and fun woman and could cuss like any country man at the time.

Dean Martin/Sway.😮😊 Dean started out as one half of the comedy duo with Jerry Lewis. They made several movies together but broke up the duo in the early 1960's. Both performers had successful solo careers after their breakup with Dean seeking out more serious roles as an actor with several solo hits as a recording artist. Both were very good actors. The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast was a very successful TV show in the 1970's for Dean Martin with many episodes available for viewing on KZfaq.

You have to understand that back then music had 2 or 3 categories. There was country, big band or Motown (before it was called Motown.)This is my opinion only but I am a child of the ‘50’s, 60’s on up. My father was country all the way, my mother sang the big band type of song and my brothers woke me up to the initial sounds of rock & roll…The Big Bopper, Richie Valenz, Buddy Holly, Everly Brothers, Gene Pitney…all starting a new movement in music. Remember, Elvis Presley was banned on certain stages, could only be filmed from the waist up, etc. Everly Brothers were banned because of their hit song “Wake Up Little Suzie”. Bill Haley & The Comets right on the edge of “Rock & Roll. By mid to late ‘60’s the “California” surf’s up Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, singing about surfing and high school and being true to your school…fast cars etc. and then came the ‘70’s…Psychedelic, Drugs, Free Love, Peace, Flower Power. In order for these icons to break in to any genre, their songs had to be played on the radio, and since they were heavily monitored as well as the old payola, grease my palms (DJ’s that is)their music had to fit into a category. Remember why Motown and Barry Gordy, and Quincy Jones became popular! “Black Music” had no venue until those icons opened it up. Oh geez MMB, stop me before I blow up your utube channel! If you are really interested in all the breakthrough artists then open up some of the doors which were slammed shut by the Moral Majority, the Christian do-gooders, the Racists and do a shallow dive into The Righteous Brothers song “Rock & Roll Heaven” and then take those names that they are incorporated in the lyrics. All of whom died untimely deaths for an assortment of reasons…Otis Redding, Bobby Darin, Jim Croce (pronounced crocha) Janis Joplin, etc…look up those names and you will get a good idea of the very first icons and how their music opened minds and hearts! People please don’t hate on me for any of the politically incorrect phrases…it is quite simply the way things were back then! Sorry, I didn’t mean to write you a book, it’s just that things have to be put in the right context in order to “get it”…❤😊

Patsy to me is quintessential country music.. But she could cross over because this woman's voice was so amazing.. It's like Elvis.. could sing anything from Rock, Gospel, Country.. It's all about the amazing vocals.. but don't ever tell me this West Virginia girl raised eating squirrel most her life ain't Country. I feel like you're hating on country... Crazy was written by Willie.. come on.. that's country.
